What Is Sony Announcing On Tuesday?

Sony dropped Kotaku a line to let us know that something big was going down on Tuesday, March 31st. Could it be the long-rumored price cut is finally upon us?

fishd5509d ago

The most important question is,Why kotaku?!

Marceles5509d ago

lol yeah, since when does Sony contact Kotaku?

morganfell5509d ago

Because they are one of the most well known Sony haters. Seriously though I would say Kotaku wasn't the only network of sites notified.

Marceles5509d ago

I hope it's something big then since Kotaku likes to flop everything Sony does.

It probably is Firmware 2.70.....

But since this is all wild speculation, lets go all out and hope for a quadruple announcement/unveiling of Team Ico's next game, the next JAK game,Dark Cloud 3,and Kingdom hearts 3....

If only this could be true....

orakga5509d ago

What bugs me most is the fact that Kotaku did not mention anything about FW2.70

Those guys clearly pay no attention to anything Sony.

IMO, if 2.70 does come out on Tuesday, and it has cross-game chat... Microsoft may as well start announcing the next XBox.

Megaton5509d ago (Edited 5509d ago )

I'd say firmware or a price drop are the 2 most likely suspects. Firmware usually comes out on Tuesday nights.

sonarus5509d ago (Edited 5509d ago )

I will say price cut more than firmware or perhaps both. March 31st = end of fiscal yr. So they can start new yr with a lower price and yield more revenue

WhittO5509d ago

maybe they are trying to get Kotaku to stop with all the hate.

Unless its a big FW update that will bring alot of stuff, i think it will be a price-cut. Sony usually dont let people know theres a FW coming incase of delay etc (except on the blog the day before)

Lifendz5509d ago

Seriously, of all sites to do this through.

But I hope its the price cut. NOt because I want to buy a PS3 and 100.00 bucks is the difference between me buying one or not. No, I want it to be the price cut so all these media people can stop with all the "teh PS3 is dooomzed. Sonyz mus drow teh price!"

gaffyh5509d ago

hmm...what's that day after March 31st? when is Kotaku going to post this "news" from Sony? When in the past has Sony ever contacted Kotaku, the biggest Xbox fanboy site around?

Shadow Flare5509d ago

This is what i wish sony would have wrote to kotaku:

"Dear Kotaku, we here at sony computer entertainment have a very big announcement on tuesday. We felt we wanted to tell you because. . .you know. . . your website is sort of that one that trashes up relentlessly, ya know. . .don't really cut us any slack at all. . . Well we're dropping the ps3's price by $100. Got anything else you wanna moan about? THEN STFU.

Sincerely,
Sony "

Its firmware 2.7 ..... Makes sense, tuesday is usually the firmware day and a dev confirmed we would see a new firmware before the end of the month . Either way if it was a price drop it would be great news aswell...

Or it could be a crappy announcement noone cares about...Like they now have 21 million PSN users..

Or it could well be a PS2 price drop like kotaku says, but i dont know where that came from.....And even though it will be good, noone really cares..

pwnsause5509d ago

why would they talk about price cuts? Honestly, we would get that news before kotaku even gets it with a few people here who work at retail.

crck5509d ago

Yep, I would expect leaked retail flyers 2 to 3 weeks before a price drop.

morganfell5509d ago

The only way this announcement is 2.70 is if the feature list in 2.70 is

1 - Extensive

2 - Comprised of the most demanded features

Otherwise it is either an exclusive deal of a known multiplatform title (Modern Warfare springs to mind or possibly Mass Effect) or it is a price cut.

Mindboggle5509d ago (Edited 5509d ago )

It definetly isnt exclusive Modern Warefare 2 to PS3...There was an image on Infinity wards twitter page showing them testing the game using 360's. But anyway I know what your saying....

I dont think its a price cut, why would they tell Kotaku first ? They would be telling retailers and like someone above me said we would have already had leaked invoices/flyers

I personally think its 2.7, it must be something big or they wouldnt be giving the news to Kotaku. Also news like a firmware update is only relevant to people owning a PS3, so saying they have something big to announce to gaming website like Kotaku seems logical when its a firmware update..

But put it this way, its a either a new game announcement or a firmware update...

morganfell5509d ago

When I say Modern Warfare Exclusive I wouldn't mean the entire game but rather something like DLC.

And if it's 2.7 then as I said it would have to be a huge important update unlike anything seen thus far.

Next Week Square Enix is set to announce something about the Kingdom Hearts series. Sony is set to announce something.
Could it be Kingdom Hearts 3?

Oh and I forgot. Let the speculations begin.

RememberThe3575509d ago

A console game that might actually sell? Doubt it. Square seems completely focused on making consoles games that don't sell.

But KH3 would be great for both Sony and Square.

skynidas5509d ago

Firmware 2.7 releasing on April 2nd.

TheHater5509d ago

wasn't that rumor to come mid April?

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies1d 2h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken22h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing691d 14h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker1d 13h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo1d 13h ago (Edited 1d 13h ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing691d 13h ago (Edited 1d 13h ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos1d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt1d 1h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken22h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1d 19h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto1d 18h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger881d 18h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies1d 8h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
