... is actually faster at running programmable shader code than either the PS3's RSX or the Xbox's Xenos GPU.
Don't forget, RSX is no slouch. It's basically an overclocked 7900GT except with higher shader:rop ratio. The exact same shader architecture (8vs,24ps) that can effortlessly run Gears of War on the PC at maximum settings at 1280x960.
Yet, in God of War 3, simply by moving AA from the GPU to the Cell processor, they boosted RSX perfor...
ought to loose their job.
While tessellation can definitely improve graphics in some PC games, that is the laziest and most underwhelming presentation one could possibly make.
Terrible video.
BTW, tessellation is nothing new.
Consoles have had tessellation in actual games for at least the last 7-8 years.
Kinect is 2 low resolution CMOS sensors (very cheap, old technology) and microphones. Parts cost is about $10-$15. Retail is $150. With incentives, retailers are pulling in at least $100 margin on each Kinect they sell.
Move? $100 is just revenue. Parts cost is about $20-$30 so retailer's margin is no more than $50.
So when he says "I'd say right now Microsoft's Kinect is looking to be the winner of the two for us" you can understan...
want ever more bloated standards because they mistakenly think it reduces demand for legal and illegal online distribution (neither of which are nearly as profitable as discs).
Frankly, the next step isn't higher pixel density but glasses-free 3D.
It's only a matter of time before everything, including your cell-phone, is 3D.
In fact, mobile devices will lead the 3D wave.
Just wait and see.

Given the types of people who'd vote for DVD such as those who ...
are without HDTV
don't use disc media much (netflix, etc)
don't know what Blu-Ray is (mostly older folks)
are still whining about HD-DVD losing
hate anything remotely connected with Sony or even Japan
... 65% for Blu-Ray is a pretty huge win for the Blu-Ray association.
it can't capture precise movements.
This explains previously revealed images and video taken from Kinect's raw feed that showed a very low resolution point cloud.
So the actual resolution is even lower than the 320x240x30hz CMOS sensor that picks up these dots.
Neither gives perfect coverage of all on-screen objects (afterall, they're both cheap substitutes for SSAA) but MLAA provides, at least on the Cell (and possibly future PC GPUs), far higher overall quality at a much lower cost.
The best looking game in this generation of consoles, God of War 3, uses MLAA.
The MLAA demonstrated on PC GPUs is of much lower quality because GPUs are not capable of running the more sophisticated algorithms that are easily hand...
than what we see in this video.
Chances are the PS3 version will be equally disappointing.
Transitioning from making games for the PC to console is not easy since PC development is so much easier. You just throw whatever you want at it and expect that some future PC will be able to run it.
Not so with consoles. Consoles have fixed architectures and unique architectures and require considerable hand-tuning.
There's a con...
People even saw the guy hiding behind a curtain controlling the Milo video game puppet.
The video with the girl was just a prerecorded video to which the actress had rehearsed. That was exposed as fake as well since in some instances the scene reacted before her movements began.
Milo was always fake.
Milo will never be real.
This is the Kinect reality:
that have gameplay isn't a copy of the games for PS2 Eyetoy?
is taking much of the processing load.
This is a good move because the CPU in the 360 is bog slow (IBM benchmarks) and needs all the help it can get.
Luckily the 360 has a GPU which can be used to run the photoshopesque preprocessing required to extrapolate the required data points from each frame of video.
that they can remove much of the lag by replacing 1:1 motion capture with predefined animations specific to the needs of each game that are simply triggered by certain poses.
There's nothing they can do about the extremely low capture resolution of 320x240x30hz.
That's exactly half the capture resolution of the PS2 Eyetoy.
the lack of upcoming exclusives means they need to make money some other way.
Sure, they're making a lot of money charging customers for something that's free on PC, PS3, and Wii but, with so many willingly shelling out major bucks for the monthly subcription (rather than annual), at some point Microsoft have to ask themselves ... "just how far can we take this?"
even looks cheap in a video game.
When will General Motors learn?
And does it include the top gear track?
Studios and manufacturers got together many years ago to push Blu-Ray as the next standard.
The reason is simple. It allows 1080P, 3D, 7.1 audio (with room for future formats), more complex software, etc which all = more disc sales and TV sales.
Google's interface sucks. The available content unimpressive as well.
Hopefully they will redesign the UI for the PS3.
If we assume both numbers are correct, this is how it breaks down.
45 Million is total ordered by retailers from Microsoft (but not necessarily manufactured and shipped yet).
42 Million sold by retailers to consumers (including 3rd party warranty replacements).
inflate retail sales figures.
This is because for each defective unit replaced by a 3rd party warranty, two xbox 360s are sold by the retailer.
The first is paid for by the customer.
The replacement is paid for by the warranty company connected to the retailer.
The first game was, visually, a disaster.
540P with mediocre visuals.
There are even many multiplatform games on the 360 that looked better.
The COD games, for example, are 60fps, higher resolution than Alan Wake, and still look better.
