Not even close.

Crysis 2 only has GI lighting on the PC version and even that isn't that great. Just look at the comparison shots of GI on and GI off. The console lighting is baked and simplified. The "depth of field" is just a simple 2D post process blur. That's the beauty of config files. Even developers can be caught lying.

Dice's Frostbite 2 engine looks better than Crysis 2 but whether it can match Killzone 2, let alone Killz...

You never see these even though these are true:

Crysis 2 doesn’t do anything that the genre hasn’t seen before.

Gears 2 doesn’t do anything that the genre hasn’t seen before.

Halo 3 doesn’t do anything that the genre hasn’t seen before.

God of War 3 doesn’t do anything that the genre hasn’t seen before.

Lost Planet 2 doesn’t do anything that the genre hasn’t seen before.

GT5's interior rendering has far more detail and nuanced with even the center console vent covers being accurately modeled and shaded with accurate, depth where they attach to the surrounding surface whereas in Shift 2 they are rather simple and flat.

The exterior rendering in GT5 is detailed and sharp while Shift 2 has a kind of receding fog due to visible LOD changes from low res textures and zero transparency on trees.

While in Shift 2, the driver&...

Absolutely zero accomplishments in the console space. Missed out on the PS2 wave. Missed out on Wii. Missed out on Xbox360 and PS3. Now, late to the party, he's got a mediocre looking shooter with an outdated engine.

PC and 360 fanboys are sure to attack this post and try to get me banned. They've been trying their darndest for the last year.

Which is why he's always been pro Xbox and anti-PS2.

He has accomplished absolutely nothing of note in the console space. While he was crying about how complicated the PS2 was for his developers, other companies were pumping out gorgeous games like the Jak and Daxter series, Ratchet series, GT4, and God of War series.

Then he cried about the PS3 and how it's CPU is too complicated for his idiot programmers while other developers are once again blowin...

is that this technique, of using high density meshes rather than textures, is very common and nearly all PS2 games (as well as many games on other consoles and PCs, albeit to a lesser extent) used colored, high density meshes instead of textures to some extent.

It's refreshing to see a developer bring to the forefront a technique that many thought would disappear and be completely replaced by textures and pixel shaders. It's also the first time that an engine has bee...

or read their emotions, can it? It can't even recognize a skate board and integrate it into the game. Heck, it can't even show you the bottom of the avatar's shoe!

So if you've wanted any of the above, Move is not for you.

Those videos are both terribly underwhelming "real-time" cut-scenes. If that's the best Crytek and Epic can do with multiple modern GPUs, the 360 and PS3 have nothing to worry about.

Screen cap of a console game. You can see a range of incredible real-time shading and post-processing effects as well as the stunning textures. The anti-aliasing is gorgeous. The only visible flaw is the slightly jagged shadow due to the lower resolution depth map.

If he knowingly distributed proprietary information then he knowingly caused financial damage and therefore is liable.

To clarify, to hack the CPU for his own use is a-ok. Spreading that information causes financial damage and therefore he becomes liable. Obviously doing it for personal gain (fame or fortune), as he has, is even more frowned upon.

If you donated money to Geohot AND you acquired the legally protected information from him, he's in an even deeper hole because it would be clear evidence that he's selling something that isn't his to sell. It's theft and trade in intellectual property. He's at best an idiot and at worst a genuine criminal and, if you supported him with you cash, or even clicks, you're no better.

No surprises here.

Has Crytek ever done anything of note outside of click-to-create/paint-by-numbe rs DirectX world?

How embarrassing.

This is why Carmack was scared to make a game for the PS2 while console experts like Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Polyphony Digital and others made gorgeous games that made massive amounts of money.

is that there are lighting algorithms that the Cell can breeze through that are simply not possible on a GPU due to the fact that GPU processors are highly optimized to do a massive amount of a few simple computations. To simulate algorithms that can be done on the Cell (or any desktop CPU that's can match it's math computation speed), you require a highly iterative approach using a massive amount of GPU silicon.

This is the problem with DirectX's virtual monopol...

Looks like high res version of lost planet where everythin has the same ugly shine.

I expect next gen to look a heck of a lot better than that.

Unlike, for example, GT5 or movies like Avatar, Crysis 2 doesn't render a different image for each eye.

It renders one image then warps that image left or right using a clever depth based scaling algorithm. This is why there's no significant frame-rate or resolution hit with the Crysis 2 "3D."

COD, Halo, and Gears must have been bursting with enough mind-blowing innovation to humiliate Nikolai Tesla and his pitiful little 19th century technologies like wireless transmission of power and data and boast story-telling that would have made William Shakespeare weep with envy.
