I think I'll stick to BBS for now...

Guess I'll have to add this to the massive list of games I still have to play.

Gah, so many games, I'm going to have to put this one on the back burner for a while. :( Great review, though.

Well, when you have sandbox RPGs, the story tends to lack a bit in favor of freedom and character creation trumps having a defined character with a tight story.

Not that they're bad, but focused narratives like Mass Effect or Persona 4 will always trump "go anywhere, do anything" type games like Oblivion.

But, like I said, I still love sandbox games for what they are, but when I go to play a game, it is the narrative that draws me, nothing else....

Most games trump WRPGs when it comes to narrative, especially sandbox-style ones like Oblivion.

I wouldn't mind having this, but $40 is a bit too much to swallow.

I'm going to agree with iiprotocolii about FFX's piano theme being my all-time favorite FF-related track though. Just something about it...

You know, in a way I agree with you. It was kind of reminiscent of what I call "artificial difficulty" these days, except in many cases I would say that either the developers back then had less choice due to technological limitations, or the gaming industry was basically still in its infancy and they didn't quite "understand" how to make things accessible, challenging and fun all at the same time.

Some devs today STILL add this semblance of artificial ...

It's true. While there's nothing wrong with the games of today, they're still great experiences. The term "hardcore" gets thrown around too casually. See what I did there?

Stab, stab. You like using a knife, don't you?

From the sounds of it, I'll stay far away from Super Meat Boy and Minecraft, for fear I may punch my monitor, and I can't afford a new one.

Some valid points are made. While I'm obviously not pro-piracy, you can't deny the effect it has had on various titles, some for the better, it seems.

Funny, no one said anything about what Microsoft MIGHT bring to the table, the article was comparing what we know right now and is strictly personal opinion.

It's hard to get excited for stuff we don't even know about. Would you buy a 360 for stuff you don't even know is coming out? Please. I like my 360, I still have great times playing great games on it, but that doesn't make me blind to the fact that Sony - as of this very moment - has more to get me excite...

I own both systems, but I honestly play my 360 about 10% of the time and the PS3 90% of the time these days. Just depends on what games in my realm of interest are out on what systems.

The article didn't even mention all the niche titles coming exclusively to the PS3 next year, like Ar Tonelico Qoga and Hyperdimension Neptunia, or even the possible 2011 release of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which are more pros to owning the system.

Valid points does not a fanboy make. But, then again, I'm sure you didn't actually read the article.

I highly disagree with your statement that it is required for the "longevity of the title".

Absolutely not. Most of the iconic games in history have been single player, and people still play them. I can guarantee people put more time into a game like Oblivion over the last five years than they have into any single Call of Duty title, collectively.

You think a game that doesn't include MP is rushing when a new one comes out every two years, yet o...

Co-op might be interesting, because that's basically driving the story along, it isn't some random multi-player that really makes no sense in a story setting (like Uncharted 2's MP). So that would be interesting.

But, I'm happy with it just being a SP experience.

Looking forward to it!

Definitely going to have to hit up LBP2 next month.

Nice visuals from what I've seen, too bad the game play doesn't live up to that.

5301d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Well, if they tie it to the story and theme of the game instead of just put it there to have it there, then I think it would work pretty well.

It's a mature game, and if it is handled in a good way within the story and game itself, this could be great.
