Had you read reviews you'd know that it picks up after the first disc. It's slow paced and boring at first, but it gets better some 10-12 huors into the game. The problem is not many people will have that much patience.
No, it's not the last hope, there are also Cry On, Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant, with more to be announced.
No side quests on the first disc, not in the whole game.
I agree with Jenzo, traditional gameplay doesn't bother me one bit. Blue Dragon is obviously not a groundbreaking title, but still an enjoyable game for traditional JRPG fans.

The first part sounds like pure guesswork. The part about the PS3 version being ahead of the Xbox 360 version is wrong, Rockstar itself admitted the PS3 version is a week or two behind. As that part is undoubtedly wrong, there's no reason to believe that the first part is right or that the source has any proof for what he's claiming.
