There has been some controversy in recent times surrounding the team behind Helldivers 2. Players are dissatisfied with the new patches, the latest Warbond (Polar Patriots), and with the developers’ approach to the game. Several good attempts to appease the fans were made, specifically by the Arrowhead CEO and the Helldivers 2 Community Manager. Now, the Helldivers 2 developers are tempting their fates with the fans by choosing to delay the next patch.
A Delayed Patch Might Be a Good Decision
Twinbeard, one of Helldivers 2 Community Managers, answered some of the fans’ questions on Discord. The most often asked one was when we could expect a new patch. He said: “When it’s done. We want to take some more time for this one and potentially between future patches since we feel cadence has probably been a bit too high to be able to maintain the quality standard we want and you deserve.”
He went on to explain: “Patching a lot can easily disrupt workflow and takes more resources than you might think; it needs planning, implementing, monitoring, possible tweaking in hotfixes, etc. For this one, we prefer to stretch it out a little, hopefully with a good result”.
Of course, many fans still want to trust the developers. The general reaction to the news of the delay was very positive. Fans are hoping they might receive some buffs and bug fixes if they stay patient. Glaucetas_ said: “Honestly I prefer to wait longer to get a good and finished patch/update, than a rushed s**t as we see way too much in video games”.
KokoroFiee agreed: “I prefer it to be finished: that’s all. How long it takes matters none to me as long as it is complete with minimal bugs. I am still haunted by the CP2077 launch”. Another Reddit user, Velo180 reminded everyone that the Helldivers 2 fanbase consists of over a million players. This fan said: “Some people want more patches, others want less, more polished ones (please)”.
Irritated Players Ask For More
As always, the Helldivers 2 community had polarizing opinions on the issue. Some fans were quick to remind the others that the last time one of AH Community Managers said: “We still cooking”, the patch left the players devastated. Rubbermayd said: “I don’t want them cooking, I want them playing their own game on like difficulty 8 to see what the players mean when they say good luck defending a generator when the bots drop on it”.
TheWagn recalled: “Yeah, they burned down the kitchen with that last one. RIP my Eruptor”. Dr_Diktor agreed: “Most people are still recovering from food poisoning after the last balance changes”. It seems that the developers’ cooking left quite a bitter taste in some players’ mouths.
Old-Buffalo-5151 noticed: “They are on a bit of a clock given the rapidly declining player count that’s starting to break the galactic war map because there aren’t enough players left playing to actually meet the objectives given”. Another player, RiskyT**sky shared the same sentiment. They said: “I might be one of the biggest fans of the game, but I feel weird right now. It’s like waiting for something all the time, waiting for this, waiting for that, excuses, excuses, waiting again”.
Obviously, the developers are on thin ice with the players. We completely understand that making things right takes time. Also, it’s quite clear why the players are impatient. Let’s give the developers the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully, they’ll manage to make things right, and even surprise us with a buff, or two.
