Players can go through dozens of missions without even noticing the SOS Beacon on their Stratagem list. But, some players rely on this Stratagem, so read on to see what the SOS Beacon does in Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2 is primarily a multiplayer co-op game. Yes, you can fly solo, but the best experience is when you have a full squad, where each member has their own Loadout and you work together as a team. But, when you start a mission on your own, or without a full squad, you may come into situations where you would appreciate some help. In case you desperately need more squad members, you can send a distress signal by calling in a special Stratagem. Read on to see what the SOS Stratagem does in Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2: What Does the SOS Beacon Stratagem Do
The SOS Beacon Strategem, once deployed, sends a distress signal that other Helldivers can see. It is used when you want random people to join your squad for whatever reason you have, but it is mostly used to call people to help you out from a tight spot. Once a Beacon is deployed, your mission will start to “pulse” on the planet map. The Beacon works on its own, you don’t have to do anything else.
Other Helldivers who are browsing the missions on the same planet you’re on will be able to see your distress call. Note that only those players who have chosen the same difficulty level as you can see your SOS. In short, calling in an SOS Beacon sends a “Hey, I need help with this mission, come and join me” message, that may entice other players to do just that.
Joining a match via SOS Beacon is great when you’re looking for a quick game. You get what you wanted, plus you’re helping a fellow Helldiver out. Right now, the only way to find SOS distress signals is to scan every difficulty level on every planet. We do hope that in the future the devs will add a simpler way to locate those missions.
How to Use the SOS Stratagem in Helldivers 2
The SOS Beacon is a Stratagem that you automatically get when you do not have a full squad. To use it, enter its Stratagem Code and place it anywhere, just like with any other Stratagem. Once deployed, the Beacon will send an SOS signal until the mission is done or the squad is full.
