Helldivers 2 Players Urge the Devs to Change the War Dynamics

There has been a lot of discussion over fighting on the same planets over and over again and how that can feel repetitive and frustrating. Some players even admitted to experiencing burnout due to dealing with the same issues constantly. Now, with the current Major Order sending the players back to the bot front, the Helldivers 2 community is uniting in a request for a serious change to war dynamics.

Helldivers Claim the War Became Too Repetitive

One devoted Helldiver, Kyren11, posted a heartwarming plea on Reddit. They noted: “I love this game, I love the passion our developers have for the game, and by far the community is the best part. The sense of camaraderie and unity. The teamwork. Saving the children instead of the AT mines was the best thing ever. So despite our combined efforts, why are we still fighting in basically the same sectors of space we were at launch? Why are we on Hellmire… Again?”.

This player went on to explain that Helldivers 2 had launched with 253 planets in 53 sectors. With the same planets being attacked constantly, it felt like the story took place in maybe 2-3 sectors. Fighting the same battles just to see any progress being undone almost immediately is hard for everyone. They recalled the map was practically cleared of bots, but then they reappeared with no actual explanation.

This Helldiver pleaded: “Arrowhead, if you want us to be invested in the story, then make what we do actually matter. Let us actually affect the tides of battle”. There are several storylines that just didn’t go anywhere, the Meridia black hole, or more recently the possible Terminid evolution.

Many players agreed, stating that the war doesn’t have to end, but some changes were more than welcome. Sodi920 said: “I just wish it was more dynamic. Let us push farther and lose more drastically. It’d be more engaging if it was a legitimate tug of war. Multiple planets could be taken/defended/lost at a time”.

The Dynamics Need to Change to Keep the Players Interested in the War

Many players wished the First Galactic War model would make a comeback. Fissure_211 said: “I want wars in HD2 to be won and lost so badly. I seriously think it’ll improve player retention, and allow the devs to get really creative with how they craft the player experience. I hope to God they go back to that model”.

Frostyant_ explained why that model was flawed and why it wouldn’t work. They said: “Because a lot of people want to fight only bugs or bots. Can’t remove half the content for a few weeks”. So far the devs have been trying to balance the time on the bot and the bug fronts. If Joel pushed the players to fight on the same front for a while, they’d lose half of the players.

Ok_Contract_3661 explained: “This feels like a very real depiction of war. The slog back and forth, taking land just to lose it the moment we turn to something else. This is how war works and it’s awful. However, this is a game that’s meant to be fun. If the devs want the overarching feel of the game to be realistic, they have to give us something to hold onto and have fun with”.

Honestly, we admire this community and the way they approach issues. The Helldivers 2 players gave comprehensive ideas on how to change the war dynamics rather than just complain. Knowing the devs’ approach, they’ll likely deliver. Maybe the summer vacations are the reason why nothing big is happening. Hopefully, the devs will react soon.
