The Major Order is in full blow. You take your trusted FAF14-Spear with you, ready to take on some nasty bugs, and… it crashes? Several players reported experiencing crashes when using this weapon. One usually fan-favorite CM made an announcement about the Spear on the Helldivers 2 Discord Server.
The Announcement That Angered Some Helldivers
Twinbeard was answering players’ questions on Discord. When inquired about the Spear, the Community Manager said: “Yeah, there are crashes affiliated with the Spear right now. We’re looking into it. Seems the Spear is cursed”. As harmless as this seems, the community didn’t appreciate it.
The problem wasn’t in the message itself. Sure, these things happen. Weapons bug out, and the provenly dedicated developers fix them. There isn’t a game in the world that doesn’t experience a problem like this every once in a while. The players were annoyed by the platform this was communicated on.
Sandwichgode declared: “Discord needs to stop being the main source of Helldivers 2 news and updates. Twinbeard posted an update regarding the Spear and how it’s causing people’s games to crash. Instead of posting that information on the Helldivers’ official Discord where only some people will see it, Arrowhead needs to post that information inside the f**king game itself, so ALL players can see that information”. They added: “In the meantime, I bet most players will never even be aware that Twinbeard posted that update to the Helldivers Discord”.
As most of the players agreed, one of them, dellboy696, explained why AH operated like this. They said: “But then there won’t be as much sharing of the info (and the game itself) on social media. I think it’s deliberate. Similar to MO videos being posted on Twitter – it’s an update for divers as well as marketing for non-divers”.
Dedicated Helldivers 2 Players Offer Alternative Ways to Share the News
Most of the players were disgruntled, but they still offered advice on what could be done. TDKswipe said: “Put a note in dispatch. Helldivers are advised to not use the spear due to malfunctioning hardware”. FizzingSlit added: “They need to patch in the ability to disable weapons because to be frank and at the risk of sounding entitled, saying “Don’t use weapon x or it will crash the game” just isn’t good enough”.
A great idea came from helican, They suggested: “They could use the currently non-functional terminal opposite of the armory for some kind of bulletin board”. Another player, jpott879, had a similar idea. This player said: “They should add a “news” tab in the menu on your Super Destroyer and it’s just the patch notes disguised as news coming from Super Earth Command. That way all the vital update info is right there in-game and doesn’t conflict or break the game immersion”.
These are all very clever ideas. In our opinion, the problem isn’t even that this information was shared on Discord. Sure, if it were posted in the hd2-announcements, it would be visible at least to Discord users. Unfortunately, it was buried deep in the general chat, as a reply to players’ questions. We fully understand that in this day and age, it’s important to utilize all sorts of social media, but, please, don’t make us search for a Spear announcement made by a CM among hundreds of messages on Helldivers 2 Discord.
