The release of the new Warbond was announced on June 6. Viper Commandos Warbond will be available starting June 13. After the initial reactions over new items settled down, players started reading through the lengthy post on X and realized that it also announced the delay of future Warbonds in Helldivers 2.
What Does the Future Hold for Warbonds?
The Helldivers 2 official account stated: “Finally, we wanted to share that, based on your feedback, we’re changing our approach to Warbonds. Firstly, we’re slowing the pace that we release Warbonds to allow a little more time to polish them. (We’ll confirm what that new timeframe will be in the future)”.
A follow-up post explained which changes the Helldivers would see in the future. It stated: “Secondly as you can see with Viper Commandos, we’re experimenting with Warbond item arrangement to make room for new types, customization, and higher quality armor/weapons – all with stronger theming”.
Katherine Baskin, one of the Community Managers, elaborated on this topic in a blog. She said: “This will prevent us from simply adding more of everything, which can lead to weapons that feel redundant and uninteresting armor. It’s time to focus on quality over quantity”.
As you might have expected, players had a lot to say. Most fans were quite thankful to the developers for hearing out their pleas after the debacle of Polar Patriots. The Slowest Tabletop Guy Around said: “Slower delivery of Warbonds with more polish & stronger theming is 100% the way to go. This feels much less like “Slapped Together”. Fewer Weapons might seem to folks like a downgrade, but if the quality of those weapons/armor goes up, I’d say that’s a fair win”.
Fans Unsure About Reimagined Warbonds
While the general sentiment seems to be positive, some players had concerns. CountryGuy123 noted: “I have mixed feelings here. I agree with giving time to make them polished, but with the limited max levels of samples, coins, etc, you get to a point where there’s no gain beyond providing more democracy to the universe (worthy in and of itself, but still)”.
The1stHorsemanX added: “My issue with this is that the majority of the warbond complaints aren’t necessarily about the polishing. It’s about a fundamental disconnect between the weapons balance team and the player base. Extra time isn’t going to change anything if the same balance guy who called the last warbond “S Tier” is the same guy balancing future weapons”.
Another player, fahad343, shared a valid concern. They said: “There’s only one primary and one secondary in the Warbond. I get slowing down if they can’t keep it up but then surely they don’t need to cut on content too. Watch them all still be 1000SC even though they have far less meaningful content in them”.
We get it, the trust has to be built. Now it’s up to the developers to live up to their claims. With all the recent changes considered, we’d say that Arrowhead is really trying its best to provide the fans with the best game possible. We can only hope that this delay and restructuring of future Warbonds is going to make Helldivers 2 players enjoy the game even more.
