How to Leave Squad in Helldivers 2

Life happens and you may need to abandon your squad for whatever reason. This article explains how to leave your squad in Helldivers 2.

Getting a full squad in Helldivers 2 can be tricky if you are not already playing with friends. You can always join in on other players’ missions, especially if they have activated the SOS Beacon. But, it may happen that you have to leave for one reason or the other. It is possible, of course, and there are a couple of ways that you can do that. So, read on to see how to leave your squad in Helldivers 2.

Helldivers 2: How to Leave Your Squad

If you want to leave the squad, there are a few ways you can do so. It really depends on whether you are the “host” or not. These methods refer to leaving your squad between missions, while on the bridge of the Ship. If you have to leave the squad while in-game, simply open up the menu (Esc on the keyboard) and near the bottom-left corner you’ll have the option to exit the game. 

Now, if you want to leave the squad “peacefully”, the methods vary depending on who’s the host.

• If you are not the host – you can open the game menu (Esc on the keyboard) and near the bottom-left corner you’ll have the option to exit the game entirely, and the “Return to ship alone” option. That one will, unsurprisingly, make you leave the squad and return you to your own ship.
• If you are the host – this one is a little trickier. You can always kick each and every member of the squad until you are left alone, but most Helldivers are nice people and are not too keen on doing that. At the moment, there is no way to “peacefully” exit the party. If you, as a host, simply exit the game, the rest of the squad will each be returned to their own ship. That may be a problem if the rest of the party wants to stay together. Remember that if that does happen, you can find the players you played with on the Recent Player tab in the Social menu.
  What some players suggest is that if you want to leave as the host, but keep the rest of the party together, you can start a new mission, and then leave when it loads. This will remove you from the game but will keep the rest of the squad. Remember to say goodbye in a friendly and patriotic manner.

Will There Be More Options in the Future?

At the time, the aforementioned methods are the only way to leave your squad. Players have asked for a more streamlined process, or at least the ability to switch hosts while on the Ship. This would, of course, trigger the switch between hosts’ ships and that may impact the chosen mission, but we are sure that the devs would think of something appropriate if they ever make such an option available.
