One of the most sought-after Stratagems in Helldivers 2 is the Eagle 500kg Bomb. But, once you use it a couple of times, you realize that it is, well, a little underwhelming.
Stratagems are a major part of Helldivers 2 and are primarily used for dealing with heavies or huge hordes of smaller enemies. When you see the list of all the Orbitals and Airstrikes, you see that one of the most powerful ones is the 500kg Bomb. You can’t wait to use it and once you do, there is a huge explosion, and….well, the enemies just keep coming almost like nothing has happened.
The Eagle 500kg Bomb Needs an Upgrade
This Stratagem is described as being able to obliterate anything close to the impact. The explosion itself gives you the impression that the blast radius is huge, but the reality is a little different. In truth, the 500kg Bomb deals some damage, but rarely enough to kill a Bile Titan. The looks of the explosion belies its effective radius, for it is lackluster and inconsistent in dealing with enemy waves.
Players ask for some upgrades on the Eagle 500kg Bomb. One player, named OfficeAggravating137 on Reddit, started a thread where he discusses the effectiveness of the Eaglt 500kg Bomb: “Man, that 500kg bomb is supposed to be epic, right? But when you drop it, expecting this massive explosion to clear out a bunch of creeps and enemies, most of them just stroll on by like nothing happened!”
More players add that they should either buff the damage/radius, to be on par with the explosion, or “…what it needs is an animation nerf to more accurately depict what it does.” as said by Keeper_of_Fenrir. Another player adds “I don’t know I think it should at least kill everything inside of the fireball, which it does not always do.”
Ideas to Fix the 500kg Bomb
As you have surely realized, most players want something to be done about the Eagle 500kg. There are two options, either increase its blast radius to match the size of the explosion, or reduce the size of the explosion but make it more effective against heavies.
One player gave a good idea, offering: “Maybe increase radius but lessen damage penetration in the outer part of it, so it kills chaff, but only direct hits do serious damage to armored targets.“ On the other hand, you get to use it twice before Rearming, so we think it just needs a little tweak to make it more viable.
