Have you been looking for ways to get characters in Genshin Impact? Read on to find out how to do it.

Genshin Impact is an open-world exploration game with a massive map and a large roster of characters. Besides the large map and combat, one of the key appeals of Genshin Impact is its large roster of fun and unique characters.

How Can I Get Characters in Genshin Impact

The primary way to get characters is through Wishing on Character Banners. Each wish costs 160 Primogems, 5 Masterless Starglitter, or 75 Masterless Stardust, and you can wish on either Limited Banners or the Standard Banner.

At its core, Genshin Impact is a gacha game that revolves around character collection for a lot of its content. Every character has a unique kit and abilities that can help you in exploration or combat. Other than that, collecting and building up new characters can be a fun experience on its own.

The roster features 50+ characters, and they are distributed between 2 rarities. There are 5-star characters and 4-star characters.

Standard Banner

The Standard Banner is always available and features a larger pool of characters. The 5-star characters on it belong to a fairly large but ultimately limited pool. The drawback is that since the character pools are larger, your chances of getting a character you want are lowered.

It also uses a wishing currency different from the limited Character and Weapons Banners.

Intertwined Fates can be collected through regular means, but they are also available through the Battle Pass, Character Ascensions, and in-game milestones.

Limited Banners

Limited Banners feature a 5-star character and three 4-star characters. The chance of getting a featured character is 50% for both 4 and 5-star characters. If you miss the featured 5-star on your first 5-star pull, you are guaranteed to get it on the next one.

Pity System

Getting a character before 70 wishes is known as Early Pity. Between wishes 70 and 89, your chances of getting a 5-star are increased, and this is known as Soft Pity. Getting a character at 90 wishes is known as Hard Pity.

Note that the pity system guarantees one 5-star character every 90 wishes, and it resets whenever you get a 5-star character. Luckily, this pity is carried over through subsequent banners as well, allowing you to plan your wishes more strategically. While losing this 50-50 can feel bad, you’re still guaranteed the next 5-star character is a featured one you want.

How To Unlock Free Characters in Genshin Impact

Besides the banner characters, there are a couple of characters you can collect for free without having to wish. So far, we’ve only unlocked free 4-star characters, excluding the Traveler, but getting a free new character or constellation is always nice.
