Fortnite fans are fed up with grinding for edit styles on their skins

Fortnite edit styles grind issue

Fortnite players aren’t too happy with the need to grind out all cosmetic styles after unlocking the base style. This issue is something that’s been a thorn in gamers’ side for over a year. More precisely, ever since the Chapter 3 Season 4 Battle Pass when this change was introduced. With offerings seemingly getting worse every season, Fortnite players have been vocal about the issue.

Is there too much grind involved for edit styles in Fortnite?

Season 4 of Chapter 4 has barely begun, and players have already found issues with the new Battle Pass. Or more precisely, it resurfaced the players’ gripe with edit styles once again. Fortnite fans have taken to Reddit to discuss the issue in several topics, adding to the severity of the problem.

Theories about why this is the case are rampant, but most fall between either lazy design from Epic, or purposeful grind due to the risk of FOMO. As user InvisibleWall69 states “Trust me, no one likes this. But it works because it forces you to grind extra to unlock the base style that shows up in your locker. It’s a FOMO tactic. Nothing we can really do about it.”

On a different thread, user Banjoface123 seems to agree with the sentiment of the majority of the community. The comment puts forth everything that they find is an issue “It is annoying. Also, they give the second edit style for some of the cosmetics before the original too. They just do it so people grind. I hate having to use battle stars for the blue or red version of a pickaxe or whatever. It’s the same item.”

Scouring through both threads, we weren’t able to find anyone who thinks that this system is a good idea. Everyone finds it annoying, troublesome, and even downright malicious. The hope remains that Epic Games will see how it’s affecting the fanbase and will do something about it. However, as long as players buy the Battle Passes and grind them out, there will be little reason to change anything. That is, unless the community becomes even more vocal about it.
