Two characters run through a field in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Wondering how to play the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo? No problem. We’ll walk you through the process to start playing ahead of the full game’s release later this month.

The release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is just around the corner, taking players back to the events of the original title from developer and publisher Square Enix. Releasing in full on February 29, the action-adventure RPG has garnered a lot of hype in the year leading up to its launch, bolstered by the drop of a playable demo earlier this month. Following an update that just dropped today, the demo allows you to experience the game’s open world with performance enhancements ahead of launch. Here’s how to download the demo for FF7 Rebirth, when you can start, and more.

How to Play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demo

The demo for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is now available to play through the PlayStation Store, though it’s exclusive to PS5 consoles. To start, just search the title and begin your download. You’ll need 48 GB of free space to start the demo.

FF7 Rebirth Demo – Junon Update Start Time

Earlier this month, the demo for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was finally made available to play. On the morning of February 21, the demo received a major update entitled Dawn of a New Era, which incorporated a portion of the area of Junon for players to explore ahead of launch. This came with highly appreciated performance improvements, enhancing the quality of the initial demo.

Presumably complete, the demo offers up a part of the open world to traverse as you relive the Nibelheim flashback alongside Cloud and Sephiroth. In all, you should be able to complete the events of the demo in full within just a few hours.

Does the FF7 Rebirth Demo Carry Over?

While some of the progress you make in the FF7 Rebirth demo will carry over to the full game when it’s released on February 29, this excludes progress made in the new Junon segment. This update appears to be exclusive to the demo and is not representative of FF7 Rebirth on the whole. That said, completion of the initial Nibelheim episode will allow you to skip this segment with the release of the full game. You’ll also get the Kupo Charm and other helpful items like potions and ethers to use during your playthrough at launch.
