Released in 2014, Elder Scrolls Online is a successful and huge MMORPG published by Bethesda Game Studios and is a part of their iconic Elder Scrolls franchise. Set in the fantasy world of Tamriel, it can immerse you for hundreds of hours with its quests, events, and exploration. If you’re wondering does the Elder Scrolls Online have crossplay so you can play it across different platforms with your friends, keep reading further and find out for yourself.
Is Elder Scrolls Online Crossplay?
Elder Scrolls Online is available for almost every mainstream platform, with the developers porting it to the current generation of consoles (PS5, Xbox X/S) in June of 2021. Despite being widely popular, Elder Scrolls Online does not have crossplay or cross-platform features as of 2023.
That means you can’t play the game with your friends over different platforms, restricting you to only playing on the same platform as your friends. Although there have been many rumors and speculations over the years about Bethesda Softworks introducing crossplay capabilities to ESO, these certainly haven’t come to fruition.

At this point, we cannot say for certain when will the developers introduce cross-platforming in this MMORPG, if ever. The game is over 9 years old and although it has had continued support and content to keep the experience fresh for players, they have never shared any plans for bringing crossplay features to the game.
Bringing the crossplay functionality, though not impossible, may require tons of technical resources and a dedicated team, which Bethesda Softworks hasn’t allotted yet. Despite that, they are still pumping out new and exciting content for the MMORPG.
Elder Scrolls Online Platforms
Currently, Elder Scrolls Online is available for the following platforms:
- Windows
- macOS
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox One
- Xbox Series X/S
Although we have mentioned that ESO doesn’t support crossplay currently, it does contain cross-generational features. This essentially means that if you own a PS5, you can play the game with your friends who use the previous generation of PlayStation, the PS4. Similarly, The Xbox Series X/S players can get into games with their Xbox One friends and PC players can get into the same servers as their MacOS friends.
So, if you were anticipating crossplay and cross-platform in ESO to explore Tamriel with more of your friends, unluckily, such features aren’t part of the game yet.
