Prior to the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2, we learned a great deal about the game’s open world and how it improved from the original installment. The development team at Capcom covered hot topics like fast travel and how a system like this might work, revealing that DD2 wouldn’t include a traditional system for players to teleport from one location to the next. Following the news, fans of the growing series are curious whether mounts like horses are accessible in the game. Here’s everything you need to know about mounts and other ways to travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2 at launch.

Are There Mounts in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t feature any traditional mounts, such as horses. This was revealed ahead of the game’s launch earlier this month. In an interview with Automaton, DD2 director Hideaki Itsuno and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi talked at length about the game’s open world, its aspirations, and potential shortcomings. During the conversation, there was an emphasis on travel and the importance of its role in not only establishing a world but also experiencing it to its greatest extent.

Itsuno noted that features like fast travel and riding horses often serve as a means to bypass exploration, oftentimes as a result of the player’s boredom. That being said, he explained further that Capcom’s goal was to introduce a world in which travel is designed to enrich the gameplay experience rather than hurt it.

“I think the reason why users want horses is not so much because they want to experience horse riding, but because they feel bored on the road if they’re not riding. Our goal was to prepare a path so enjoyable that players would not feel the need for a horse.”

Despite the fact that Dragon’s Dogma 2 lacks an extensive fast travel system or the ability to ride horses and other mounts, there are still ways to get around quickly. By using Portcrystals, you can essentially teleport from one area to the next. While these structures are few and far between, they’re still a viable means for travel.

Aside from this, players can also take an oxcart for a more hands-on experience. You never know what kinds of enemies you’ll run into on the path ahead, so this is a great exploration method for those who want to keep their playthrough interesting and exciting.
