Lucky Hit is a new mechanic in Diablo IV, so you may be asking yourself what it is exactly? If you’re looking to find out, read this article to find out.
Diablo IV introduced several new mechanics to shake up the combat system, one of which is called Lucky Hit. Diablo veterans might think that it’s the same as Critical Hit, and while similar, there are important distinctions between the two. Scoring a Lucky Hit with a basic attack, skill, or a special weapon can trigger a special effect. This makes the combat more flashy and exciting whenever it happens. Being able to improve your odds or effects can also affect your build, so it’s worth knowing more. Here’s everything you need to know about Lucky Hits in Diablo 4.
What does Lucky Hit mean in Diablo 4?
Lucky Hit is a new combat mechanic added in Diablo 4 that allows your character to proc special effects while using certain skills and weapons. Many active skills across all classes have a Lucky Hit attribute with differing effects and chances of success.
Scoring a Lucky Hit can trigger various Lucky Hit Effects which can range from slow, stun, knockback, shattering a frozen enemy, healing you, executing low-health enemies, and more. The type of Lucky Hit you have depends on the skill in question, the items you use, your Legendary Aspects, and even some passives and legendary affixes on your gear.
If you’re unsure which Lucky Hit you can perform, you can check it in your character stats. Within the stat list, there will be a Lucky Hit entry followed by its type and percentage. This percentage represents the effect of the skill and can be modified through gear. While all relevant skills have a base Lucky Hit Chance (similar to a proc coefficient in other games), your gear can also confer a bonus to your Lucky Hit Effect Chance. Therefore, this increases your chance of scoring one in the first place. To see what is the percentage on every skill, you will have to turn on Advanced Tooltips in the game’s settings.
It is important to know that none of the Lucky Hits by themselves increase your damage output. However, scoring a Lucky Hit benefits you by providing additional effects and bonuses that can give you an advantage in combat.
Is Lucky Hit the same as Critical Hit?
As you can see, while Lucky Hit seems superficially similar to Critical Hit, it provides a completely different effect. This is driven home by the fact that both effects exist in the game with separate proc chances. Furthermore, that also means that a very lucky attack swing could result in both a Crit and a Lucky Hit. Of course, this is easier to achieve if your build has a high Lucky Hit Chance and Critical Hit Chance.
