Does Counter Strike 2 Support Ray Tracing?
The short answer is that Counter Strike 2 does not support ray tracing. The new update and sequel to Counter Strike: Global Offensive uses the Source 2 engine, which has been powering Valve Corporation’s games since the release of Dota 2 in 2015.
The game engine has since been used in mobile games like Dota Underloads and virtual reality games including Half-Life: Alyx and the Robot Repair minigame in The Lab. However, Valve has not used ray tracing for their games that more current games are starting to adopt.
The company did release a free DLC pack for the original Portal that added ray tracing to the 2007 classic, but that version was developed by NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios.
What Is Ray Tracing?
Ray tracing essentially is a more advanced method of rendering all of the lights and shadows that objects give off in a game or through the use of CGI in a movie. However, ray tracing account for every singe ray of light within the scene, instead of only a few light sources. This gives the scene more realistic lighting and shadows, but at a cost of serious computing power that computer GPUs can now harness.
