Freeing the Grymforge Gnomes is part of an integral quest in Baldur’s Gate 3 whose completion is required to progress the story forward. Completing the quest within the allotted time can be a challenge, but luckily, there are several methods to finish the mission without wasting too much time on it. So, without further ado, let’s find out how you can rescue the Grymforge Gnomes from their captives.
How Rescue the Gnomes in Baldur’s Gate 3?
In order to save the gnomes from captivity, here is what you need to do:
- First, you have to cure the poisoned gnome Thulla in the Myconid Colony. This will lead you to the Decrepit Village.
- Then, you have to free True Soul Nere using the explosives obtained from Philomeen.
- After freeing True Soul Nere, you will have to side with the Gnomes and kill Nere.
- The quest will be completed when you take Nere’s head to the Myconid Sovereign.
However, we have to achieve all this while the clock is ticking, and any sort of delay would lead to the failure of the quest. Fortunately, this quest can be completed easily if you know who to ally with and how to start the quest.

How to Start the Grymforge Gnomes Quest
In order to start the quest, you’ll have to visit the Decrepit Village. There, after an interaction with a Duergar mercenaries named Gekh Coal, you’ll have to recover his sergeant’s missing boots that were stolen by an escaped gnome, Thulla, by traveling to the Myconid Colony.
How to Cure the Poisoned Gnome
After you find Thulla, you have the option to just simply take the boots from her since she will be lying down, poisoned. However, if you wish to save her, you can either use the Lesser Restoration spell or use an Antidote potion that you can find in a shop near the Blighted Village waypoint. After completing the mission, Thulla will ask you to free her kin from the Duergars, for which you will have to head back to the Decrepit Village to see the sergeant.
After returning the boots to Sergeant Thrinn, you will interact with either Barcus Wroot, if you rescued him from the goblins in the Blighted Village or with Lunkbug, another gnome. This will start the Save the Grymforge Dwarves mission. Next, you will have to look for some explosives to save True Soul Nere.
