Can You Play Co-Op in Cities Skylines 2?

Wondering if you can play co-op in Cities Skylines 2? We have your answer here. Read on for what developers had to say about the topic at hand and whether the game supports this multiplayer mode.

Cities Skylines 2 is out now for PC players, allowing you to lay the groundwork for a brand-new city. Publisher Paradox Interactive has incorporated a plethora of improvements in the new release, from AI traffic to smaller and more detailed map tiles. While much of the building process has become more streamlined thanks to the tools now at your disposal, running a bustling city all on your own is a tough gig. Many have hoped to see a co-op mode added to the game upon release, which would help to divvy up management responsibilities. However, it seems unlikely that Paradox will introduce this feature.

Does Cities Skylines 2 Have Co-Op?

Unfortunately, Cities Skylines 2 won’t offer co-op gameplay. Currently listed as a single-player game on Steam, many have speculated whether we might see multiplayer modes added with its console release. Some hopeful players have taken to forums, going so far as to predict how these modes might play out. That said, developers at Colossal Order have all but slashed these predictions.

In an April X post, the development team posted snippets of a Q&A session that took place in March of this year. Among the queries posted, one user asked if we would see multiplayer added in Cities Skylines 2. While the team didn’t explicitly deny this, it was stated that implementing multiplayer support would “take away from building the core player experience” that Colossal Order was focused on creating.

Objectively, this spells bad news for those hoping to play Cities Skylines 2 with friends. However, the addition of the feature wasn’t entirely ruled out by the development team. Colossal Order specified that incorporating co-op would take a lot of time and resources, potentially risking the integrity of the finished game upon release.

That said, it does seem possible that multiplayer support could be added with the game’s launch across consoles next year. Of course, this is entirely speculative. However, this does lend some hope to those looking to open their city up to players everywhere. For now, we’ll need to await further news from developers.
