In Redfall, you can explore as I did or continue gunning through the story missions to unlock new equipment slots and the ability to respec. How To Locate Underboss Skull in Redfall
To get Underboss Skulls in Redfall, you must complete safehouse missions. In each neighborhood of Redfall, you can find a safe haven to unlock and enter to refill your supplies and take a breather. You can interact with a white screen in these locations and accept safehouse missions.
You must complete safehouse missions to unlock the final mission to take on a vampire Underboss. These earlier missions are as simple as destroying a ritual effigy or clearing out cultists. They’re not challenging in any way, shape or form.

Underboss bosses are named vampires that are harder to kill than normal ones. I’ll call them elite vampires. Luckily, these boss vampires are marked on the map, so head to the location to find the boss. Engage the boss, and once it’s dead, instead of only leaving a pile of ash, you’ll also see a skull you can loot. This is an Underboss Skull.
When I was playing co-op with a few friends, one boss would not spawn in the Church. I thought it was bugged, but it was because we had left one enemy alive in the area. So if the Underboss doesn’t spawn, ensure everyone around the location is dead.
If you have rushed through the story missions and not explored or done side stuff. In one mission called The Hollow Man, you are forced to acquire three Underboss Skulls, meaning you cannot continue unless you complete safehouse missions.
