God of War director Cory Balrog says that Sony’s violent series is growing up with the industry

God of War was one of the most surprising games to appear at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, and not for the obvious reasons associated with Sony's blockbuster action series.

Yes yes yes. He made the best God of War in my opinion and now he is maturing the series. Can't wait for this new approach.

Aloy-Boyfriend2878d ago (Edited 2878d ago )

That's right, and it seems to be resonating with many who hated Kratos for whatever reason. I had no problem with the previous games by any means, but this change in both tone and more realistic gameplay is very refreshing to me.

Cory himself also confirmed that there will be, of course, lots of action and set pieces the series is known for. I think he should be very careful with the tone and the kid not getting too much in the way and ruining the adventure.

phoenixwing2878d ago

I hope the kid is there to generate story and character interaction and less to do with babysitting game mechanics. I think the kid shouldn't have a health bar and be unable to actually die unless the story calls for it.

KakashiHotake2878d ago

It's too early to be assuming anything. For all you know the kid might turn out to be more badass than Kratos. He is his son after all.

Goldby2878d ago

@kakashuhotake

And his son is the one that won the race against a million other swimmers.

Sunny_D2878d ago

I feel like there's a twist with the kid. Like he may have been adopted by Kratos. Maybe he's a very well known Norse mythology character as a child (AKA Thor)

Helios862877d ago

@Sunny_D I'm actually thinking he might be adopted aswell, the kid didn't exactly share his biological traits such as black hair and brown eyes (which are dominant traits). Ofc I might just be overthinking it, and he simply managed to get his mothers hair and eye color.

I would however hope it is his biological son.

Hope the kid can't cause game-overs. I don't wanna be pulling off all these combos only to have to run away to save sonny boy who got stuck clipping on some rocks.

If they take a cue from Bioshock Infinite, UC4, Mass Effect and TLOU and have him be a useful NPC or at least not a liability, then we're ok. Even if he falls in combat, if we can revive him post skirmish ala Mass Effect that'd be ok.

The quick shot of the ornate large door they were walking up to when they were attacked by the first giant was the thing that really showed me this would still be a GoW game. I don't think they are getting rid of those huge detailed environments & cool interiors in favor of a more wooded approach.

Does Norse mythology have any huge Titans? I sure hope so....can't wait to start seeing the articles pointing out Norse gods & deities likely to make an appearance in this new game. The design of those creatures & the places they habitat are some of my favorite aspects of the series.

opinionated2878d ago (Edited 2878d ago )

It's similar. Ragnarok is an end of the world battle between the gods and Monsters. Stuff like Giants and serpents. It will be interesting to see where Kratos fits into that. Working with the gods to defeat an enemy only to be betrayed? Sounds too familiar if balrog is going in a different direction.

jessionpc2878d ago

How can yea like a guy who ties a person to a door gear and grinds them into pieces?... Please, you'd have to be a sociopath.

B-B-BUT YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT SH-

Yea, I get it. It doesn't change the fact that it's sociopath entertainment.

Best choice this series has EVER made. Now respectable human beings may give it a chance as well.

Aloy-Boyfriend2878d ago (Edited 2878d ago )

I don't take gaming as seriously as you do mate. Yeah thay part was disturbing, but that is greek mythology.

I nevee related to him because he was never supposed to be relatable. I related to his journey. The gods betrayed him and never got rid of his nightmares, then they must die. Simple!

Yes, like Sony's fanbase. Mostly dads suffering midlife crisis.

Jokes aside, really, Western Sony first party is really heavily targeted towards mid 30s men. Even Horizon Zero Dawn is mid 30s wifu.

KakashiHotake2878d ago

Well that demographic is where most of the bread makers are. By the time people are in their 30s that's when presumably your at your most stable period. Your still young enough to love video games but old enough to afford them. Most of the people that complain about the prices of games, Neo, Scorpio, VR, etc. are younger and can't afford it.

phoenixwing2878d ago

I like stories aimed at a mature audience. If there's a problem I don't see it.

Goldby2878d ago

Well when sonys fan bas has grown up with sony since ohhh 20 years ago its only appropriate that they base their games iff of their user base.

Has absolutely nothibg to do witg mid life crisis or men in general. Its tailored towards the older audience which is the majority of gamers

Walter_Official2878d ago (Edited 2878d ago )

Oh is that so?

Since you know everything, please, tell me the fan base of microsoft? Is it 12 year olds picking up the console and making the assumption their console is the best because OMG its microsoft. Or is it 8 year olds first learning how to use the computer so they make a N4G account to troll and blow their load all over their "microsoft" fanboys. Please tell me. Go have a jerk circle with your friends that have yet to learn anything.

Edit:
Sea of Thieves: Looks fun, tailored for ages 4-16
So yeah I can make the assumption you 10+

jb2272878d ago

You realize that the average age for a gamer is around 37 right? Crazy statistic but it's true from what I understand.

Kids who grew up on Nintendos just never migrated away, or if they've did they've made their way back now with much more disposable income.

Sony still has games like Ratchet, Crash & Knack for the younger audience.

I really enjoyed Good Job game...too bad that they are closing

mastershredder1d 5h ago

Considering the level of games they made, I'm surprised that more than 2 people worked there. 45 people (+ outsourcing) making mediocre mobile games, like cut the rope. I mean dude....Nintendo stooped to new lows in quality development and entertainment standards.

thats so crazy haha.

it will never disappear.

darksky3d ago

The more they try to stop it, the more publicity it gets. The fact is that Yuzu will forever live on torrent and other sites. Nintendo is fighting an uphill battle.

Inverno3d ago

Another 8,500 will take their place. Smh

PRIMORDUS3d ago

There is nothing stopping these people from working on Yuzu clones and sharing them on torrent sites. Nintendo or anyone else cannot do shit about torrents or usenet.

lucasnooker3d ago

lol Nintendo keep fighting this but it never ends. Why do they feel the need to persist? I guess they are in too deep now they have to
