Sony is Re-releasing The Last of Us on PS3

Sony has just announced that the Game of The Year edition of The Last of Us will hit the PS3 next month. This version will include the original game and all its DLCs.

IIRC, Sony re-released ICO on PS2. Public just wanted to play that game. And, of course, game is state-of-the-art.

If you're Sony, why not do this? It costs them nothing (relatively speaking), and some who haven't played it but may have been interested may have some renewed interest with this version...good timing for it with Black Friday and the holiday season around the corner.

Agreed with ICO. That game was barely noticed when it was first released and it was subsequently deleted. It's popularity grew long after this and spurred Sony to re-produce it.

It was one of those games that I thought would one day be worth something and so I bought three more copies of the original, with the art cards, when it was in the bargain bin for £5 each. They're still sealed and in my collection. :)

TLOU is indeed a different scenario. This is simply a platinum edition really, due to the fact that it was the polar opposite of ICO in popularity from day one.

Well, the GoTY edition would be releasing for PS3 regardless of if the remastered version was released for PS4 anyway. I guess this is good for people who don't want to buy a PS4 yet, and didn't buy the season pass on PS3.

Every GOTY game comes out the year after w/ a GOTY edition.
This GOTY edition is only for PS3 w/ all DLCs (MP and SP) included. It's and equivalent of Remastered which was only for PS4.
It was always coming and everbidy knew it. Not a surprise here.

Without the PS4 release of TLOU, the GOTY edition for the PS3 is a no brainer and to be expected. It just seems weird since we recently transitioned between console gens and seen the game released multiple times in less than a year.

By far the most I have laughed over a gif yet. :D

Yeah. I lost count how many times capcom releases RE4. It's on GC, PS2, PC, Wii, PS3, 360, iphone, ipad, and they even release the game again on PC with "ultimate HD edition" thing.

I'm surprised so many people are surprised by this news. Every game that sells well gets a "GOTY" edition with the game and DLC content. It's been going on for a very long time now....all the way back to the PS1(sans the DLC part) in the form of "Essential" type releases.

It's just a budget version of the game, since by now original copies aren't prevalent in the game stores as they've moved on to used. It allows budget gamers to buy the game they missed and the publisher to make money.

For collector's they're great because they include the DLC which is unlikely to be available online in 20 years so it makes the content still available.

You don't have to buy it. I doubt they're going to have a massive advertising campaign. I'm sure they'll make money off it.

makes perfect sense if you just take a second to think. These days, any game with sizable dlc gets re-released with all dlc bundled in. Happens to just about every hot game nowadays. Nothing about what Sony is doing here is "milking the series" in any way. There is obviously no incentive to picking this up unless you haven't played the game and are looking to pick up all content at a discounted price.

This exact treatment has happened to a thousand different games by now. Think before you post.

Usually it's less time than that. Think the Batman games had their GOTY versions less than a year after release. Won't even get into all the resident evil releases.

It's not really anything new, and I'd be more surprised if they didn't have a GOTY release. Heck, I am surprised they didn't release a GOTY edition earlier this year, since they tend to come out before the summer.

TLOU PS3 - June 14th, 2013
TLOU PS4 - July 30th, 2014. More than a year after.
TLOU GOTY Edition - November 2014. More than a year after.

So ONE game from June 2013 to June 2014.
And TWO games in 2014 since July 2014.

It's two releases. The original release on the PS3 last year and the Game of the Year edition on the PS3 which is not uncommon for games this well received. The PS4 has only seen one release which has the same content of the GOTY edition. The PS3 and PS4 are separate platforms.

What? How do you work that out? PS4 users get a version with 1080p, 60fps, a photo-mode and upgraded visuals. Let's be honest, no one who owns a PS4 is saying "damnit, why did I buy the remastered version for my PS4 if I could have just waited for this version on PS3?!". No one is being slapped in the face.

This is no different than any other game that gets a GoTY edition, which is pretty much every game these days...it's just that there also exists a version for people who have PS4's.

Higher quality shadows, higher quality textures, better AA, higher res, higher quality in-game character models, improved AF, improved LOD, improved particle effects and smoke does not = "the same". How is this a slap in the face to PS4 owners? If the PS3 version had additional content you might have a very small point, but even then it's pretty far off. If you are a PS3 owner that bought it for the PS3 and then PS4, I doubt you will be interested in the new PS3 release since you already bought it for the PS4. If anything this is a nice way to support the existing user base that has not upgraded.
