Final Fantasy XV - A long development

Announced in 2006, Ian Koehler looks back on eight years in development for Final Fantasy XV. For those of you who are huge Final Fantasy you had a huge treat last week. A trailer popped up showing more game-play of the upcoming title. To be honest Ian was never a fan of the NEW series. He loved the NES and SNES ones but never the new ones. Once Ian had watched the trailer he knew he wanted this game.

But why has it taken eight year to get to this stage ?

TheLyonKing3500d ago

I am at the stage where I can continue to wait I mean 8 years of waiting another can't hurt. I will have kh 2.5 and type 0 to keep me going then hopefully 15. It's definitely not worth the 8 year wait (no game is) but the game looks like it will be epic all the same.

sonypsnow3500d ago

Grand Theft Auto 5 took 1,000 people and 4 years to develop, compare to Final Fantasy XV with 300 people and 8 years to develop.

Plus Final Fantasy XV world is bigger than Grand Theft Auto 5's.

Good news is, Hajime Tabata have set the completion date less than 2 years.

ps360s3500d ago

It's due to the fact SE is playing around with Sony (undecided if they bring it exclusive or not)

Mankey3500d ago

Hopefully. And hopefully, the combat will tuned as well.

Reibooi3500d ago

I think a good reason it's taking so long is because it was not in active development the entire time we have known about it.

We know that the team on XV was pulled off the game to help finish out XIII so that put the game on the back burner. Then in addition to that I think(and this is just my speculation) that they stopped the game for awhile because what they wanted to do was to ambitious for the last gen consoles and knew that next gen was coming. Tabata has already said the game has been in development for 2 years already in it's current form so that kinda lends support to that theory so in the end if it does come out in the next 2 years like Tabata said it will have been pretty much a 4 year game. Although that doesn't take into account that the story and characters and whatnot were already done by the time they started working on it again so take from that what you will.

This game as it is now have been in development since 2012. Some ideas and concept remained from 2006-2011, but thats just small part of current game.

submarinna3500d ago

so looking forward to xv in 20XV, hopefully. Tired of waiting in limbo 4 this

I was sweet 16 when the first trailer came out. I'm almost 25 now.

They should have renamed this Final Fantasy Forever.

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled9d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog141d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake141d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic140d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan141d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman141d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator141d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno141d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior141d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake141d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
