Xbox One vs. PS4 vs. Wii U: Sony’s Still the Company to Beat

Some wars are fought on the battlefield. Others are waged on store shelves. This generation’s video game console war rages between the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U. So far, the PS4 has been steadily trouncing the competition, although sales of the other two consoles are holding steady. The sales numbers for August are in, so let’s see where each system stands now and how it got there.

I honest to god have no idea what make people foolishly buy a PS4 over a Xbox one. I hear people say Sony is known for delivering the games and they are waiting for them, but look at Sony current financial situation (2.1 billion loss) and ask your self do you really believe Sony will pimp out games like they did in the past.

Theyre both great but TBH I only picked up an xb1 because it was very hard to get a PS4 at the time, from a consumers perspective, the PS4 seems like the better choice. Now that being said if history is any indication MS tends to come swinging out of the gate at first but Sony supports their console more towards the end of the gen, exclusive wise.

I would say Sony's support of it's consoles and those who publish content for them has always been consistent, and the titles have always been consistently very good. And Sony's approach has gotten even better this gen, as they are throwing the same kind of support and freedom toward indies as they always have done for their first party studios. I can't say the same for Microsoft, as their first party devs don't produce much outside of shooters, they still restrict indies with their silly id@xbox draconian policy, and they have failed to support either the original xbox or the 360 late in their life cycles with new, intriguing, quality exclusives...it just hasn't happened. Now people can close their eyes to the facts if the wish, but wishing doesn't change reality. I currently own a 360, ps3, and ps4 with the wii u being on my list to buy in 2015 and possibly the xbone at some point in 2015 or 2016...but with the way Sony is dominating Microsoft with ps4 sales, I fear history will repeat itself and Microsoft will abandon the xbone pretty quickly this gen in order to get their next console (if they produce a next console) out the door to better compete. Sony pretty much has most of my gaming fix covered...ps vita, vita tv, morpheus?, psplus, shareplay, indie support, phenomenal first party studios, and ever growing third party games and support. Come to think of it, maybe I'll skip the xbone this gen and wait for Microsoft's next console. I'm sure they'll get it right with that one, after what they've suffered this time around, much the way Sony learned from their early struggles with ps3.

the ps4 is better built small quieter psu in console and as for games not looking 40% better how would they look better smoother framerate higher resolution ? i think you will find that allot of games are on the ps4.

For over the 20 past years Sony has delivered nothing but great games to their plaforms.They support them longer than their competitors even when a new one is released.

Better exclusives?X1 hasnt even had one single exlcusive since last year Forza5 .Ryse,DR3,TF,dont count since they're on PC.

im an american and the xbox has the american style of games that i like to play where as the ps4 doesn't! the only game on ps4 that sparks my attention that's coming out soon is the order 1866 (and i will be buying my ps4 when that game comes out). but until then, the ps4 has nothing for my american play style.

Friends list always works.Better graphics I can't wait for forza horizon 2 but visually compare it to drive club makes it look like forza is still a 360 exclusive. Plus I have a 1TB harddrive on ps4 xb1 I'm stuck with 500gb.

Get out of your Xbox dreamland where Master Chief is stripping for you, and look at the exclusive games on Sony's console and what they are supporting this year, next year and well into the future. In my opinion if you can only afford or for whatever reason only have one next gen console then I would advise everyone to get the PS4!

As a core gamer who owns all 3 of the next gen consoles (check my avatar picture for proof) and a decent gaming PC I have to say the X1 is very misunderstood! it is a great console, yes Microsoft have made some monumental cock ups at the start of this new generation but as of today the X1 is a very different console!
The near constant updates from Microsoft every month have made the console a great little machine and with every new release the games are getting better and better!

I love my WiiU and i Love my PS4 and Xbox One!!
And my gaming pc too, what people have to realise is that all the platforms have their pros and cons.
I actually find that on a day to day basis I play my X1 more then my PS4 and Wiiu and pc.
Not because its better in any way but more because at the moment the console meets my current needs and has games which I am enjoying at the moment.

I just wish EVERY GAMER was able to own and game on all the platforms but obviously not every one is as fortunate as me.
I am just getting tired of the constant bashing of the X1 and before it the WiiU was the target.
Seriously today's gamers are just too focused on bashing the platform they dont own and what's laughable is most of them have never played on said platform!

Anyway I think people need to realise the negative perception the gamers currently have about the X1 and Microsoft is the fault of Microsoft and them alone!
Any one who denies that Microsoft only changed focus and the X1 policies not after hearing the gamers and its fan base outcry but after hearing their accountants telling them that the PS4 was handing their asses to them! THIS IS FACT!

But regardless why they did it the point is they made the changes that people wanted and its us the consumers who are better off and the X1 is allot better off for it!

Just look at Nintendo, they are stubborn and refuse to change, hence why with every new generation their market share of core gamers has dwindled!

The other two can't touch Sony. It's almost unfair at this point because the PS4 is pretty much dominating the planet right now and the Vita is having more and more games announced for it everyday. Sony just did it right this gen , like a well strategized chess game. They saw what the competition was doing four moves before the competition knew what they were doing themselves. I think the question needs to be asked. Why is the PS4 dominating? It is the essentially the same console it was when it launched. Good console with barely any good exclusives. The fall lineup is weak at best. Every one who is talking about the PS4 always brings up sales and games that aren't being released until 2015 and beyond.

The Xbox One on the other hand has improved substantially since it has launched. I would not even call it the same system we saw during the Reveal. Now the Sony fans can say what they want about the console only changing because of the pressure from Sony, but the truth is the console was going to improve substantially anyway because it was very rushed to market and because Microsoft takes customer feedback extremely seriously.

Anyway, the Xbox One has received substantial updates over the course of several months that have added a host of social, entertainment, and game enhancing features. Then on the game side, the most recent titles have begun showing the ability of the Xbox One to have games that display the extremely near or essentially the same graphical performance of the PS4. So the multiplats are looking more and more the same: resolution, framerates, texture quality, etc.

Then you have the exclusives. Microsoft is delivering high quality games for the rest of the Fall. It started yesterday with D4, then the beautiful Forza Horizons 2 is coming later in a few days(the demo has received rave reviews and is my pick for GOTY), then October has us playing the fun and crazy Sunset Overdrive, which is then followed up by the greatest remastered collection ever created in the MasterChief collection. So you have 4 months of high quality games, and it is very likely several of them will receive 9/10 or even perfect reviews. Also in there is Project Spark, Below, Killer Instinct Season 2, Fable Legends and Halo 5 Beta (1 month long).

The Xbox One is bringing the games NOW. I could probably also say the same for the Wii U. The PS4 has the weakest Fall lineup and the good games don't come out til 2015. It has lagged on features and is selling on hype.

Xbox fanboys downplaying PS4 quality and success earned, by concentrating on a HOLIDAY lineup and acting like it represents the entire year. Microsoft are notorious for this. Sony have provided lots of games throughout the year, and Microsoft crams them all in the holiday, and somehow this means Xbone is better than PS4, despite the fact that it has more games in every category, more diversity today, tomorrow and ALWAYS.

PS4 has almost 3x the number of exclusives next year than the Xbone, but something makes me think that you'll still be damage controlling the Xbone even when next year rolls around and PS4 continues to spank the MS console with a vastly superior lineup. Seriously, have fun waiting until next holiday to be able to boast about a games lineup.

Looking at Sony's current financial situation they need to be pumping out games like never before even godlike. I love PlayStation I really do but the company behind it is on the verge of going bankrupt. If they don't figure out some kind of solution for that Smartphone and TV situation I fear the worse as doors are starting to close for them. They do have a couple things coming up with the potential to turn things around such as PS Now, the online TV deal they made with Viacom, and Project Morpheus. But it doesn't seem like time is on their side. Which is why they need for 2015 to be the strongest year in PlayStation history. I'm not at all trolling but only trying to inform people of the reality of the situation at hand.

Here we go (again), another discussion regarding this gens games consoles (and games, hopefully) based on sales alone as a result of propaganda and rhetoric. Fact is that Nintendo have the better library of games at present - treble that if you include the 3ds, arguably the better upcoming games, but it is the gamer who fears change or any REAL innovation who is dictating the industry. Wii U is back to being in third in sales, as of August, and Xbone didn't even release anything major in August (certainly not anything with the same sales power as Mario Kart).

I don't have even the slightest doubt in my mind that Xbone will secure second place this gen.

Loving my Wii U and PS4 combo! Sad to see xbox in last, I loved the 360 the only reason i left was because i missed out on a lot of exclusive like the last of us or mario galaxy. so I didn't get xbox1 since a ps4 is more similar to that and Wii u has it's own creativity but isn't as powerful or is notorious for its online multiplayer.Wii u has great local multiplayer games but i am older and most of my friends and I are busy.
