Interesting.

lol, this what one Sony esec had to say (regarding it coming elsewhere to mobile),

"NO INTENT TO BRING IT TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN XPERIA DEVICES"

Ahem. Excuse me while I wait for the hacked solution wherein any rooted phone can do remote-play from here on out:

Z3? damn Sony aren't wasting time!
Xperia phones trounce everything else

abstractel3523d ago

Always wanted to play proper console games on my tablet. I wish they made a tablet sized Vita (with Tablet functionality as well). I would be all over that. This is very tempting tho. I guess you'll be able to sync your DS4 to the tablet/phone?

jujubee883523d ago

Yep.

Btw, here's how anyone could get PSM working on a (non Playstation certified) Android device: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Don't worry to those who (like me) are too cheap to buy the X3 when it first launches. 'Cause, ya, Remote-play for Android will 99.999% find it's way onto other (rootable) Android devices via "hacker methods". Don't listen to marketers who don't know crap about what goes into sw/hw engineering and/or design (at least relative to the actual engineers/reverse engineers).

@thunderbear:

I haven't clicked the article, but, yes. That's what it sounds like bc one Sony Mobile exec alluded to playing remote-play over the internet w/ the Xperia Z3 tab or phone.

Ain't that the truth. I've just moved from Samsung to Sony and it really is so much better.

badz1493522d ago

I left Samsung after Galaxy S3 and now using Z Ultra. Samsung definitely has their custom Android version better than stock Android and Xperia flavoured Android.

but I chose Sony for built quality and Samsung is not in the same ballpack in this regards. those Galaxy plastics are getting old for me. can't shake how cheap it feels.

Not so sure it will be that easy to hack.

jujubee883523d ago (Edited 3523d ago )

Android runs off linux, so any and all software can be re-purposed to work on a phone of any similar specs. And the brunt of the work is video decoding (on the part of the client phone/tab) so, I'd imagine any phone from the past 2 years could run the app.

Well see if the theory is proven wrong, but if PSM could be run on non-PS certified devices then it's looking like any new rooted phone would be able to do this too.

edit: Calm your moobs, disagreeing disagreers! :P I'm not taking anything away from the announcement, just stating my opinion and some facts!

TheCaptainKuchiki3523d ago

@jujubee88 but remote play requires a PS4 to work. Are you planning to hack the PS4 as well. Do you think Sony is stupid ?

TimeSkipLuffy3523d ago (Edited 3523d ago )

You have to be in the same WIFI network... I don't know if playing on a small screen is that great. You need to play with dual shock anyway. It probably is cheaper to buy a 27inch LCD and PSTV than the new Z3. The experience is better as well. At least if you just wanna play in the same WIFI network at home but the TV is occupied. Most gamers probably already own a LCD screen for their PC. Just plug in a $99 PS TV and stream your PS4 games on that.

elazz3523d ago

Dude, it works great on Vita, that means that it will work even better on Z3.

WeAreLegion3523d ago

I do remote play on my Vita at work every day. It does not require the same connection.

LightningMokey3523d ago

What are your settings ive yet to make a cinnection outside the same network.. I only ask because I want to remoteplay at work as well.

FarEastOrient3522d ago

Vita's reomote play worked over a cellphone connection the day the system came out. It was already tested and youtube has videos of people tethering from a cellphone's 4G just fine. You don't have to be on the same wifi network.

TimeSkipLuffy3522d ago

Yeah. Playing remote play on the Vita is great. I'd would rather play on a Vita then on a mobile phone + dual shock :D. Or as I suggested on a LCD screen/TV with PSTV.

FamilyGuy3523d ago

"You have to be in the same WIFI network."

No you don't, please stop spreading inaccurate information.

ThatOneGuyThere3523d ago

to be fair, thats what the commercial says about the Z3.

TimeSkipLuffy3522d ago

Please read the article. I only commented on what the article said.

DanielGearSolid3523d ago

No you don't

Its the same as VITA

Same wifi network is a recommendation

Antnee5343523d ago

No u don't when I go to work I work about 6 or 7 miles away from my house on a different Internet I can remote play

FamilyGuy3522d ago

Did you stop reading early?

"Sony added that PS4 Remote Play with the Z3 mobile devices is theoretically possible over a web connection, but for now it will be best experienced by staying in the same Wi-Fi network."

Highly intersting.

Alexious3523d ago

Not really sure this would be enough to make me think about buying an Xperia Z3, but still, convergence is always nice!
