All the reasons why the PS4 is consistently crushing the Xbox One

When the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One launched last November, everyone expected it to be a close race. If anything, Microsoft had a slight advantage coming off of an enormously successful near-decade with the Xbox 360, but eight months later, Sony is so far out in front that the lead seems insurmountable. So how did the PS4 become an international smash hit, doubling the sales of the Xbox One month after month?

What I cannot wrap my head around is: Why do fans, who own no stock, care about sales of consoles AT ALL? The only news that I would want to read about is if a Console fails so bad that it jeopardizes the company and potentially puts them out of the console business. It doesn't seem like that's happening to either company, though... So, it again, brings me to the question: Why should we care if we do not own any stock?

Is it possible that we don't care? People (fanboys) just like to fixate on the "good" and rub it in and, at this point in time, neither console is offering a whole lot (in terms of games) so they seem to be fixated on sales and using it as a "my piece of plastic is better than your piece of plastic" opportunity?

I own PS4 and Xb1. I'm happy to own both. The PS4 suits me better, but I still look forward to playing games on both consoles.

Who's they?

Journalists write about whatever will get them hits. Whether it's PS4 outselling the Xbox One, or 3DS outselling PS Vita, or Sony supposedly going bankrupt, Wii U being dead and then brought back to life by one game, or console and handheld gaming being doomed, or out of context quotes made by someone in the gaming industry and used as misleading headlines.

You think there's a conspiracy here? You think that mostly a certain type of articles are being written by a certain group of people who are also in charge of running this website too?

I work in an institution whereby the Network architecture is PC/Windows oriented.

IMO, Apple have great single user based products. Very over priced but nonetheless do what they they say on the tin.

Problem I have with Apple is that they aren't enterprise friendly at all NOR are they future proof.

Im sat in my office and from here I can see 6x 2006 iMacs and 2x G5 Desktop Mac Pro's (dual screens)
They are redundant for our organisation now... Still working perfectly just so obsolete they can't even run the Lion OS (system architecture Issue, a deliberate/coincidental/typica l Apple issue with new and old Apple systems)
What really get's me annoyed is how little they do to prepare their devices for PC based enterprises.

We have 5000s PC in our institution roughly 500 Macs... and they still haven't worked out all the kinks in their implementation.

I have an XB1 in my apartment, as well. I feel a little empty in terms of titles but that's expected, especially during the summer. Surprisingly enough, the Snap feature is my favorite thing on the system because I watch a lot of YouTube, so I find myself on there while playing Titanfall.

On another note, I'm super excited for next Wednesday. I'm finally pick up a PS4!! Starting out with Infamous and Killzone, I was gonna wait for the white bundle but I can barely contain myself. I no longer have patience, only reason why I haven't gotten it yet was because rent wasndue this week :/

Most consoles do experience a bit of a drought on it's first year that's why I wait for a couple of years before buying one so that there's a better console revision along with having a bigger game library.

The other reason is the same reasons why people support a sports team or political party so passionately.. They are part of something, it defines who they are and an attack on 'it' is and attack on them.

This is a different situation this time. No way developers will omit xbox one install base. And development still prioritized for direct X. Especially when DX12 comes out. Also, MS provides free servers for games. So it's not about the best support, no way.

I dont know anyone at all that would think other wise, even game shops know its happening and are reducing the price of everything to do with xbone to sell it. The xbone is even cheaper than the ps4 in Australia and still getting outsold.

Likely because MS fumbled the entrance of their device and Sony came in 100$ cheaper whilst dropping dirty tactics on it's nearest competitor. (fair play of course, they were an easy target)

Early figures mean nothing in the grander scheme of things.

Both consoles will develop a lot over the next 3 years, the tech is now out there and available for everyone. It's highly probable that consoles we see today will change vastly.

400$ for a console? I could get a new guitar effects pedal, graphics card, studio software/hardware for that price which would benefit me far more.

I think people care because if console 1 sells more than console 2 and the person chose console 1/2 they themselves feel they won/lost. If that makes sense. I never noticed this level of angst on both sides of the fences until the previous gen.

I work with an actual "PC elitist". Always thought they were an online persona more than anything. Anytime I mention my PS4/Wii U he has a retort about games, memory space, graphics, etc. It's very sad as I work in an environment where Him and I are the only "hardcore gamers". Be nice to have conversations with him but I've learned to avoid the topic because it turns into a debate of why wouldn't I just spend the extra couple hundred for a rig.

It all boils down to the fact that people are driven to be better/smarter than others. They take hold of anything they can twist to make themselves look like the winner.

You didn't think a new SKU was going to impact the consumers that quickly did you? PS4 came out the gate with the cheaper console. To the general consumer (who doesn't know anything about specs or DRM) that's the one you choose. Especially when the main population only plays COD.

It takes time for a new SKU to really penetrate the market anyway. It was literally a month ago. Give it some time. If Xbox only sold 1 million then it would be time for the xbox/ms haters to crack open the champagne.

Well one system must sell more than another one. The PS4 is selling better for a couple of reasons. Their messaging was better, their conferences were better, they were cheaper for 6 months, they're in more countries, and there's no system seller games on the other platform. I don't see why people should be putting down the XB1, though. I enjoy it a lot and I've enjoyed playing games on it. The PS4 is stronger and will probably outsell it in the end, but as a XB1 owner none of that matters to me as long as I get enjoyment and my moneys worth out of it.

Not at all. Sony has won every single month this year in every market they are selling in. If they outsold Xbox for 2 or 3 months, it would be different...but when Xbox can't even outsell Sony for ONE MONTH in their strongest territory, even AFTER bundling in their top game for free, and even after that bundle sells for $450, even after the new $399 sku is released, and even after they offer 360 owners an ADDITIONAL $75 bribe to "upgrade"...yeah, that qualifies as "consistently crushed". It's going to be 2 to 1, PS4 to Xbox in OVERALL global sales by the end of this month...and probably more than that by this Holiday season...so yeah, MS is getting spanked.

MS are easily putting out more ads, at my local jb hifi and eb games there is no signs outside on the windows at all for PS4, the xbox ones cover everything, the funniest thing is the xbox sign says "All the best games are on Xbox one" odd how an opinion like that can be stated as fact on the sign that MS make. It doesn't matter what keyword it is, if it helps them understand the trends better and such they use it. From search engines, social media sites, anything. There seems to be a misconception that PS4 has stolen all the Xbox sales. X1 sales are higher than the 360 at this time, Sony hasn't stolen the Xbox market, it has captured the Wii market. Sales of WiiU are dismal compared to the Wii and those buyers are stepping up to PS4. Apply common sense, if the X1 is outselling the 360 it isn't MS that has lost market share, its Nintendo.
