Sony Boasts Breaking 100 Million Total PS4, PS3 and PS Vita Sales in New Corporate Ad

Not all the trailers released by Sony Computer Entertainment are targeted to us gamers, and at times the company releases videos dedicated to their business partners as well. The Japanese branch of the house of PlayStation just released a nice little trailer aimed to other companies in order to persuade them to create new official licensed PlayStation products.

Quite interestingly, the trailer mentions that the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita combined have broken 100 million total units sold.

Very impressive for the PS family.

Mikey322303579d ago

Is that an unannounced Dualshock 4 -Steering wheel accessory?? - for Driveclub motion controls that were just hinted at by the developers.

Abriael3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

It's not unannounced. As a matter of fact it's already released. It passed under my radar too until I saw it on this trailer.

You can find on Amazon if you search for "Officially Licensed Compact Racing Wheel (PS4)"

bouzebbal3579d ago

PS licenced products? sounds interesting!

darthv723579d ago

Interesting as this sort of info is usually what we hear at the big trade shows like E3 or gamescom.

As to the wheel...is it just me or is this making the DS4 into a wii-wheel/wiimote type of control? i like the idea but its funny how this didnt come out for the PS3 when the DS3 supported sixaxis control for racing games (that used it).

tbone5673579d ago

It's just sad that Sony lost all the money they made on ps1 and ps2 on the PS3. Sony recently reported a 78 million loss on playstation in the most recent quarter.

kingPoS3579d ago

I never knew about that, it reminds of the Wii mote.

@ WeAreLegion

Oh snap!! the G27 is selling for $209.

If the PS3 has 82.5 Million. This means 17.5M+ of them are PS4 and PS Vita.

BISHOP-BRASIL3578d ago

@Darthv72

It did existed for Dualshock 3/Sixaxis.

Also, even more like the wiimote wheel, there was plenty of option for Move. Even this official, really weird, wheel-batarang hybrid.

Im happy PlayStation is doing so great, I wonder whether PS4 have passed 9M already.

Didn't Nintendo break 100 million with just the Wii a year ago?

As cheap as it was, it should have broke that record.

Yes they did and how many shi++y games did they have along with it? We all know the Wii sold based on curiosity from all ages and genders and that's it so your comment holds no value

FITgamer3579d ago

What do accounts have to do with sales?

marijanFTW3579d ago

SONY released 4 home consoles - they sold 350 million units
nintendo released 6 home consoles - they sold 270 million units
microsoft released 3 home consoles - they sold 110 million units

SONY - the king of home consoles

ApolloAdams3579d ago

The PS2 was a DVD player that's what it's successful. Same with PS3 and Blu-ray.

Still I agree they are the kings of home consoles.

3579d ago
KwietStorm_BLM3579d ago

Yep. All those top selling game franchises had nothing to do with the game system selling millions of units. So the PlayStation sold over 100 million because it was a CD player I suppose?

dantesparda3579d ago

And the 360 ius a DVD player and the X1 a bulray player. But they aint the kings of home consoles.

InTheLab3579d ago

The original Xbox was a dvd player
The 360 was a dvd player
HDDvD also launched on Xbox
The 360 was the first console to stream Netflix

None of that mattered. The PS2 was just a better console than it's competition. The PS3 launched at an absurd price which is why the Wii beat it, or is beating it for now. The PS4 is just a better console than it's competition. Same with the PS1.

Sony's success in the console market is pure insanity.

What Marijan didn't mention is that Sony hit 350m sold and lapped Nintendo despite at 10 year headstart.

Sony has also caused the premature death of at least 3 consoles and I think certain people will continue to be salty about that, which explains your comment...

marioJP873578d ago

And PS4 is currently king of next gen consoles. What type of player is it?

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

well look at dem disagrees man lol

oh right market share oh wow and who took it back Nintendo with Wii and DS

it okay sony fans I know you hates me. Time to play some Muramasa Rebirth.

dantesparda3579d ago

"Time to play some Muramasa Rebirth."

Oh you mean that game thats also on the Vita? Man, fanboys are pathetic. Nintendo!? What are you 10?

InTheLab3579d ago (Edited 3579d ago )

Nintendo made all of their money in the handheld market and have had 3 profitable consoles. NES, SNES, and the Wii. Despite what fanboys will tell you on this site, Nintendo suffered major losses for those 3 failed consoles but was saved by the GBA, the DS, and the 3DS/2DS.

So when you see articles saying Nintendo made a profit during those gen's, they really mean Nintendo made a profit during that era based on the huge amount of handhelds they moved and not the warehouse full of consoles they failed to move.

As for the concepts and designs introduced by Nintendo, they've done nothing meaningful sense the 80's, and SMB64 in the 90's. Their controllers have been mostly gimmicks that inspired fads. The dualshock is the father of the modern controller, as every controller comes standard with two analog sticks for proper movement in a 3d space and 4 shoulder buttons...not 2. Nintendo didn't invent analog sticks like some of you kids like to believe. They were around in the 70's and occasionally called joysticks.

If anything, Sega deserves the most credit for changing the way we play games. CDs, game streaming through the Sega Channel, online gaming, second screen. Sony, MS, and Nintendo have all copied Sega.

Clogmaster3579d ago

And the Edmonton Oilers won the Stanley Cup in 1990.

mohuzas3579d ago

@InTheLab, nope. even the GameCube and N64 made some decent profits, and the WiiU will probably break even soon enough. although consoles like the Original Xbox and the PS3 never broke even. the PS3 is making money, but it hasn't recovered what it lost, but you wouldn't call the PS3 a failed console, would you?
Also, It's interesting how you just mention the analog thumbsticks, which are a different thing than joy sticks btw, and yet you don't mention the D-Pad, the ABXY button placement, the Start and Select Buttons, the L and R buttons, etc.

marioJP873578d ago

And who has a failed system that's losing nintendo profit? Nintendo!

kenshiro1003578d ago

Because Nintendo couldn't have possibly copied anything, right?

InTheLab3578d ago (Edited 3578d ago )

@Moh

The gamecube was the first console to actually cause N to report an annual loss. They may have made money on each sold years after launch but making a few dollars on each sold does not equal profit. You cant produce millions of consoles and only sell a third of them. All of those consoles sat there and ate away at any profit Nintendo hoped to make on the Gamecube. Try as you might, you will NEVER find an article anywhere that says Nintendo made money on the GC or N64 because it didn't happen. They MADE MONEY ON THEIR HANDHELDS AND ONLY THEIR HANDHELDS then combined those numbers, hence, they made money in that ERA.

Now, the losses for the GC were not as substantial because they used most of the Gamecube parts for the Wii's production. It's the reason why they immediately made money on the Wii and why the joke that the Wii is really just two Gamecubes Duct taped together.

You wanna know how I know all of this? It's called research and actually being present during these events. There was no N4G back then but this financial stuff was all over places like Forbes and Time.

Speaking of research, the analog stick was created in the 70's and used for gaming in that same decade. WHAT WE CALL CONTROLLERS NOW WHERE JOYSTICKS BACK THEN. Again, I was there in the 80's when analog sticks were still around.

As for the controller part of your baseless argument, what does the current controller you play with look like?

This http://commons.wikimedia.or...

Or This... http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

I said MODERN day. No one is taking away what Nintendo did for gaming but that is history. In 1997, the base design for the controllers we all use to was designed by Sony.

And dude...come on. Face buttons on a controller were around long before Nintendo made consoles. You must be in your 20's because that's the only explanation for some of this ignorance.

Lastly, and this will kill some of you Nintendo made everything fanboys. THE INTELLIVISOIN WAS THE FIRST CONSOLE TO USE THE D PAD. Google it or ask your dad.

Seriously, Nintendo came along saved gaming in the 80's. Wouldn't that suggest that there was a gaming market long before Nintendo entered the mix?

Such a good game to me. Crazy how different peoples opinions can get.

Crows901h ago(Edited 1h ago)

For me it wasn't that surprising. There was some bad press before. There's also the matter and element of a person's disposition when trying out a certain game. Sometimes you're just not really into the type of game that you're playing so you put it down because you don't like it. Not necessarily because it's a bad game but because you're just not up for something like this. Reviewers have a tough because no matter what they feel like playing they've got to play what's releasing.

I have many times gone back to games that I put down only to thoroughly enjoy them the second time around because either there wasn't another exciting game coming out around the same time or I just had no other games to play and haven't played that type of game in a while. I'm not the type of person that can just play a souls game through all this iterations one after the other without getting burnt out on the formula.

In my opinion this game was great from the start. Some bugs here and there but nothing worse than the most AAA releases during the same time after and before. All I did was wait one week and I had a phenomenal time with the game. No other zombie survival game comes close to how I thoroughly enjoyed this one

-Foxtrot13m ago(Edited 11m ago)

Yeah I thought it was pretty decent, it had its flaws but for their first big console single player open world game it's a solid 8/10.

I have never seen an AAA "zombie" game feature as many enemies as the horde sections did, you really had to think about your surroundings and plan carefully.

I feel journalists had an issue with this game from the moment it was announced, they really didn't like the Biker characters and the overall Biker gang theme. If they were anything else I feel it would have had a better chance or at least they'd overlook some of the flaws like they do for certain other open world games. They don't mind waiting weeks or months for a patch knowing its coming but a game that has it Day 1 it's suddenly a big no no? Yeah this was one of those moments that showed you how they cherry pick who to suddenly decide to go harsh on when they want to.

mkis0076m ago

Ill never forget the reviewer who tried to claim the "ride me like you ride your bike" line was anything but a joke...they (sarah and deacon) explicitly call it a joke and the reviewer still misinformed the reader about it as if it was a literal thing.

Leeroyw1h ago

Second act of that game far surpassed the first. Which is why people felt it didn't live up to the hype of the trailers. Personally I loved it. But it was a slog to get your bike and weapons up to skill.

Inverno1h ago

Was gonna post a brick wall of text but I'll keep it short. Pardon my French but f**k the media for the hate they gave this game. If you have a PC to play it on you can get it as low as 10 bucks, and if you have a PS then it's a no brainer. Totally worth a play.

phatak1h ago(Edited 57m ago)

I don't even comment here often but had to for this game, I still stand by my opinion that this was one of the top 10 games of the ps4 generation, I preferred days gone over god of war, horizon and last of us 2, the launch version was definitely piss poor and that messed up the reviews for this game, honestly some games deserve a re-review or post patch review as the metacritic score stays forever but the reality is its not even the same game anymore, the ps5 patch is amazing and the pc version which I play on nowadays is one of the best looking games ever, complete shame that we wont get a sequel, god of war got one, horizon got one, last of us got one, spider man got one, ghosts of tshushima about to get one but this game wont get one, sucks to be honest.

Ps3/360 era had some hidden underated games for me it was shadows of the damned, alice madness returns that deserved more sales and a sequel/ higher scores, and similarly for the ps4 era it was days gone, and dying light 1 that deserved much more love, dying light atleast got a sequel, everyone needs to play this game once and judge for themselves, for me its officially the most underrated game of the ps4 era, go play it if you haven't.

Awesome game. Just bought it for my laptop last week
