PS4 Exclusive Days Gone To Release In 2019 According To Official PlayStation Website

Days Gone was confirmed to release in 2018 by none other than Shuhei Yoshida at PSX 2017. There was no official announcement for the release year although the official PlayStation website listed it as releasing in 2018

Days Gone is one of my most anticipated games, but I guess it was the right move to avoid launching near RDR2

I mean Sony definitely didn't need it this year with God of War next month, Detroit in May, and Spider-Man and Dreams releasing later this year. But I still wanted to play it, at least its something to look forward to early next year

These are strategic moves and Sony has that luxury since they lead in multiplat sales. It also helps they have enough exclusives to spread out where if one game gets delayed its not a big deal.

To me, that means that TLOU2 may not release next year. It's hard to imagine Sony would want to pit a new zombie IP game, up against a well loved pseudo-zombie game. Particularly since they both seem to be narrative driven.

Sony is not going to pull an EA (EA released Titanfall 2 a week after Battlefield 1 and a week before COD). They will make sure that Days Gone and TLOU2 will be spaced out. My prediction is Days Gone will be released in February 2019 and TLOU2 will be out in June 2019.

It's worth nothing before continuing, that no matter how the baddies are characterized, the average person is going to see the theme as inherently "zombie"-ish. A rose by any other name and what not, and in today's media, "zombie", is a rather all encompassing term to describe less than human antagonist in a post-apocalyptic world(although that last part isn't always a necessity).

Anyhow,

I think the games are different too. But we know in the real world, they're going to be pitted against one another just because they both have a common theme. When something like BOTW and Horizon get pitted against each other because they're both open world, and they're both releasing relatively close to one another, it stands to reason that two story driven post-apacolyptic "zombie" games will be the same. TLOU2 would stand to take too much attention from Day's Gone, regardless of how good Day's Gone may be.

I would think that if Sony does release them both in the same year, then Day's Gone would likely be early in the year, while TLOU2 would be closer to the holidays. However, with Sony's big guns, they have been doing the games earlier in the year, or close to summer for their releases.

In my original comment, I didn't mean to imply it was impossible that Sony would release both in one year. Just that I can see more reason they wouldn't, than I can see reason they would. There is also nothing so far that suggests that TLOU2 will be ready for 2019, as Sony has allowed a lot of it's big games to be pushed back to a later time.

Anyhow, if both come out next year, it's no biggie to me. I'll play both, and I know I'll at least enjoy TLOU2, and DG is looking pretty good since the story trailer they did.

It was probably the smartest thing to do. They have GoW (April), Detroit (May) & then Spider-Man (guessing summer/fall). On top of those they have high profile 3rd party games galore. Why would you throw Days Gone to fight with Red Dead for sales? Hell, overloaded year already I’m good & I’m sure many more feel the same.

The game looks fine. Sony has so many games coming that it would be dangerous to launch it in fourth quarter. The first three quarters of the year are when those games should be dropping. If they get the extra time that gives us a greater chance of having a better product.

Considering the ps4 has a huge stream of games, it's best the publishers/studios use that to their advantage and polish their games as best as they can. That said, Days Gone honestly needs to avoid releasing in the same time frame as The Last of Us 2.

There's no question, if it releases in that same span of 1-3 months, it'll be dead on arrival.

But there's no garuntee that a game delayed will turn out good. We have had many games like The Order or NMS that were delayed and still turned out bad or mediocre when released. So I'm not really sure where this mindset of yours that a delayed game means it'll be better.

And even with the delays, push backs and anything else we have had game studios still closed down like Cambridge studios, I don't really even know what that has to do with my comment of most games this gen being pushed back.

I don't think it's just the delays that's the issue . . . it's the increased development times. Uncharted got an entire trilogy last gen. Bioshock had an entire trilogy last gen. Mass Effect got an entire trilogy last gen. Arkham got an entire trilogy last gen. Etc . . .

The only game series that are really keeping up with the frequency of releases like Call of Duty/Assassin's Creed/Battlefield/Sports games. Everything else has been far more sparse and so the delays are much more noticeable.

That's the thing, maybe it's fond memories of last gen but I don't remember having this many delays for most games last gen than this one here.

Maybe it does have something to do with having the games bigger and working with a system with more tech but I would think that with these new consoles, better tools would be available to meet development not only easier but faster.

Maybe that's what next gen needs to focus on for their developers. Trying to reduce development time and delays.

As for the games you mentioned I think those come out more frequently because of the initial copy and paste nature of most of them. Not saying that each game is always the same, but the basic gameplay never drastically changes from one sequel to the next.

You also need to take into consideration we also had a much longer generation.

It was like 7 years. It also take into account some of the franchises you're talking about were also brand new franchises at their height usually at the start of a generation older franchises get phased out estudios try to figure out if the series is popular enough.

Look at Prince of Persia it went from 3 entries to previous generation so I believe only one the following.

Or even look at Medal of Honor as it got multiple entries the previous generation yet only a very small few the following.

So consider you're probably going to get 3 Watch Dogs, 3 destiny, 3 Titanfall etc because those are new properties at their height or Publishers are looking to capitalize on the install base of fans.

So it's difficult to say a few years until the generation how many games were going to get because it's not as if we know what the next couple years is going to bring for all you know a sequel to many of those games is going to come.

I'm sorry but delays or nothing brand new to this industry even slightly I would argue some of the same Publishers that I've had delays in the past still have delays now.

I mean are we really going to pretend that Grand Theft Auto wasn't delayed or Metal Gear Solid 5 wasn't delayed or Final Fantasy 15 or The Last Guardian deep into another generation ? The issues Studios have regarding their development is not exclusive to any generation I don't even understand how it could be. A development Studio that is notoriously for having trouble development is always going to have trouble regardless of the generation.

to be honest this is the best move for the game. Now they can release it early 2019 when the game won't have big competition. I think the game is ready to be launched in 2018 but now there is no good time left to launch because almost every month there is a huge AAA game and some of the biggest ps4 exclusives will over shadow it

well that is sad, but still fine for me. it makes sense due to RDR2 release that they'll want to delay this to maybe february 2019. actually i seen a comment from someone in the know that sony bend is actually AHEAD of their schedule of development with Days Gone, which makes me think that maybe they'll even add features they didn't plan to origianlly, like perhaps a battle royale online mode, which should rocket sales. also hopefully it would mean that we'll get a demo before the release, but i'll be fine without all that.

This is definitely for the best. First of all, I can barely keep up with the amount of games in my back log and there are a hell load more to come throughout the rest of the year.

Secondly, the most recent gameplay demo I saw did seem rather unpolished. They will definitely use this time wisely to get it up to scratch and iron out any gameplay/system kinks. The biggest thing that I noticed were the kill animations didn't actually seem to go anywhere near the enemy (i.e the knife stabbing animation kind of hovered in front of the enemy/looked awful if it did go in).

I have every faith they will get the little niggled sorted for release.

I’m honestly okay with this. I have SO many games in my backlog, plus tons of 2018 games.. I’d rather them take the time they need to make it right then rush it out just to make a deadline. I AM a little bit worried though, as now it’ll be closer to the last of us, and I hope the delay doesn’t mean they’re having difficulties. Hopefully we see an impressive showing of the game at E3 to make us less worried.
