As the launch of Xbox One X nears, Microsoft Studios is having its worst ever year

Launch title Crackdown 3 has been delayed until spring 2018, leaving MS with just one major new game to support its new console.

That's because they have zero exclusives. I definitely prefer my xbox, but this is getting ridiculous. And no making another halo or gears doesn't count anymore.

lelo2play2443d ago

Yep, X1 is having a bad year. Very few exclusives and poor hardware sales. I don't think XB1X ($500) is going to improve the picture by much.

It's time for Phil Spencer to step down and let someone else take care of the Xbox division. Someone that actually understands what he's doing.

mark_parch2443d ago

I must admit phil seems like a nice guy but what has he done for the xbox brand over the last 3 years other than backwards compatibility? this was supposed to be a great year with halo wars 2, sea of thieves, scalebound, crackdown 3 ( cloud destruction ) forza 7, below, cuphead and most people were expecting at least one other unannounced game but instead we ended up with halo wars 2, cuphead and forza 7. remember the greatest lineup in xbox history halo 5, gears 1 remaster, forza 6, tomb raider and fable legends. tomb raider was a timed exclusive, fable got cancelled that left halo, forza and a remaster. I think phil needs to go and whoever is responsible for the crackdown 3 marketing

Ashlen2443d ago

@mark_parch

Backwards compatibility was talked about before Phil btw.

Cobra9512442d ago (Edited 2442d ago )

As someone who believes the Xbox 360 is (was) the best home console in history, I agree--with a heavy heart. I'm not sure that Phil is to blame, though. He has bosses to answer to, culminating with Satya Nadella, who is not a good guy to us consumers at all.

ZeroX98762442d ago

A big mess of a console launch was given to Phil and he tried his best to bring it back to it's former glory, but you can only do so much. Project Spark, Fable Legends, Crackdown 3 were announced before Phil was there and even Scalebound started development in 2013 (revealed in 2014, but already ongoing by the time Phil was there).

GrubsterBeater2442d ago (Edited 2442d ago )

Good point, and who says that it even WAS Phil that helped get backwards compatibility? It may not have even been him who got the gears going to make BC happen.

Phil's track record these past few years don't look too good... he seems like a cool dude, but being a cool dude doesn't translate to good decisions and benefiting the company and creating new revenue and pulling in sales... Not to even mention the spin, lies and PR that he spews on a consistent basis... he needs to learn to start keeping his mouth shut honestly....

If XBox were to start creating new IP's, creating new studios (no, MS, you can't just buy studios), and just cut the PR spin and all that jazz, then I would consider buying an XBox. People say that we hate MS and want it to fail... I WANT XBox to do good because guess what? I love games. I wish they would get their shit together so that I would have a new system with a plethora of new and exciting games... but at this rate, it's not looking good and I won't hold my breath...

S2Killinit2442d ago

Its because some people blindly follow them even when they are doing a terrible job or making consoles irrelevant.

JackBNimble2442d ago

Didn't Phil Spencer boast that 2017 was going to be MS year ?

Maybe I just imagined that....

TFJWM2442d ago (Edited 2442d ago )

@ZeroX9876 "A big mess of a console launch was given to Phil and he tried his best to bring it back to it's former glory, but you can only do so much. He was GM of Microsoft Studios since 2008 before he become head of xbox. He had a hand in all those games...

rainslacker2442d ago (Edited 2442d ago )

Wouldn't matter if this was MS corporate who is making this happen. It's quite possible they've had their new game budget cut, or Xbox has been given directives to change up whatever it is they're making to service MS as a whole better. I don't think for one second that Spencer talking about GaaS while downplaying the "impact" of SP games was in any way just some off the cuff moment. Same kind of things were said last gen where publishers talked about used games and digital distribution, and we saw how hard they pushed that.

While it's definately speculation, given the fact that we haven't seen a new game announcement from MS in a while, outside Forza, that they had scrapped a lot of plans for games in development....likely mostly from 2nd party contracts, and decided to restructure, or downsize that aspect of the Xbox brand.

Considering MS can make substantially more money on the simple licensing of using it's platform, it seems like something that MS would prefer to do without taking the risk of investing in new games development....particularly since outside their staples, those new games they've been making have not exactly done anything for MS in terms of sales, and for some of them, probably didn't get a return on investment.

I really hate to say it, but I do think that Phil needs to go. I like the guy, but the Xbox brand is in the toilet right now. The only two potential scenarios after all this time are that he just doesn't care that much about making games, or MS is directing him and he's just some puppet. If it's the former, then maybe someone can revitalize the brand. If it's the latter, then they need to get someone in there with some vision that can influence the money men to actually get something done with the brand. Xbox's biggest problem right now is that MS and the Xbox execs seem to have no vision for the brand....or worse, they aren't willing to share that vision, and that should be worrisome when it comes to MS.

The time for giving Phil the benefit of the doubt is over. The time to start calling him out on his BS is now. First thing to bring up.....where the hell did that billion dollars in game investment go? They certainly haven't shown that much output since announcing that. Not even by half. Since they had it invested, those games should have been in development, and we should be seeing them, or even playing them by now.

Does anyone care what happened to all those games which were apparently in development? When was the last time someone asked them about that? How much do they have invested now, and why haven't they been making games for the past 3-1/2 years to have something to show for it by now? Maybe not a release this year, but something soon for sure.

@Cobra

It's funny you mention that Phil may not be to blame. I also agree he may not be.

Sadly though, if he is replaced for some reason, all the blame for where the Xbox brand is now will be placed on him, as they bring in some new savior to take his place, and hopefully, it won't take 4 years to figure out if he is a savior, or just some other guy who can't achieve anything.

Phil was the PR person they needed after the botched reveal. He served that role, now it's time he actually fulfill the role of building the Xbox brand back to something special. His predecessors had vision, and you knew what Xbox was trying to achieve. Whether you liked it or not was besides the point, the Xbox brand continuously grew, and really made a name for itself to become a major competitor. Now, it's living on fumes, and who knows where the brand is headed.

rainslacker2442d ago

@Grub

I've always said that most fo the things Phil's been given credit for started before him. MOst of those things happened before he took over, he just had the privaledge of getting credit because it was announced under him. The time frames involved just didn't match up. IN fact, every good thing about Xbox this gen seems to be before him, and even the games, outside newer Forzas andPD remaster started with someone else. Phil has really brought next to nothing to the Xbox brand compared to his predecessor.

Just looking at the timing of announcements makes this obvious

indysurfn2441d ago

For those that didn't read the article (80%) here is a small quote:

"In the heyday of the Xbox 360, Microsoft published between seven and 13 retail games each year between 2007 and 2013. It released seven in 2014 and 2015, five in 2016 and just three this year."

mark_parch2441d ago

i'm pretty sure Microsoft are making plenty of money of xbox but that's all through services like xbox live, games pass and ea access. That's why they make more of an effort with games with gold, why do you think they have got rare making a game like sea of thieves even phil said it's a service game so will be packed with loads of future paid content and microtransactions.

Gman322442d ago

Ok thats how you feel just get a ps4 then

-Foxtrot2442d ago

Does anyone think Microsoft don't give a shit about the console division anymore? I mean they keep saying how profitable it is but then you hear those rumors about them wanting to spin it off. There's always contradicting things shared about the future of the Xbox and when you've seen how little Microsoft seem to care about the console market and how they seem to just be making it up as they go along it speaks volumes

I really feel they are trying their best to get to the end of this gen by spending as less as they can get away with. If you know there's a plan in place for next gen then why would you waste your money spending it on new IPs, studios and talent when you won't need them after a short while. Maybe they are going to slowly transition out of the console market but in a way where it won't look like that, they've have some kind of plan where it looks like they are supporting the console market still but at its core, whatever plan they have it will slowly let them bow out without making a huge scene. I always like the sound of the PC/Xbox hybrid where really it will just be a gaming PC to push Windows and the like, it's the only possible way they could do it without doing something which is going to look like a defeat for them.

Fact is they just seem to be prodding along to the end of this gen while spending as little money as they can. The lies we hear about games and the like are literally false hope to squeeze out as much as they can before this gen ends.

Compromised released of 2014 announced games...

ThinkThink2443d ago

This is definitely Microsofts driest year with regards to exclusives but every console has at least one of those years, that's normal. Sony's first 2 years were pretty rough but now they are killing it! Xbox exclusives have been solid up until this year. Interested to see what new games that have in store for 2018. There are quite a bit of 3rd party games this year luckily.

2443d ago
moegooner882443d ago (Edited 2443d ago )

" Sony's first 2 years were pretty rough" . Exclusives wise, they were no where as near as rough as this year is for Xbox . Do some research maybe ?

zerocarnage2443d ago

What neither the ps4 or xb1 had any exclusives first two years of release, was all remasters.

Brave_Losers_Unite2443d ago

@zerocarnage stop talking out of your ass

OpenGL2442d ago

Bloodborne released approximately 15 months after the PS4 and remains one of the highest rated games of the generation with a 92 on metacritic.

Sam Fisher2443d ago

What? The first 2 years had infamous, killzone, that pixel game from cerny (forgot the name), and a crapload of indies (which none caught my interest, well resogun was the only that caught my interest). If i recall 🤔

Dark_Knightmare22443d ago (Edited 2443d ago )

Well you're recalling wrong so to name just a few there was killzone, infamous, bloodborne ,MLB the show, driveclub,Uc collection, tlou remastered, the order 1886,tales of zestria, dragon quest heroes and quite a few more. Oh and FYI independent games are games but I didn't even name the tons I could have because if I is to guess those wouldn't count to you.

MagUk2443d ago

There were articles and fans complaining about a total lack of PS4 AAA games in the first two years.

Realms2443d ago

@Sam Fisher

As I recall that was at the beginning of the generation, there is no way to justify the lack of AAA content coming from MS they are lacking and you could point at Sony all you want but their future offerings are very impressive compared to what MS has planned.

KickSpinFilter2442d ago

Even more Resogun, DriveClub, Little Big Planet 3

Sam Fisher2442d ago

Wait wtf, im actually saying we had a good line up in the first 2 yrs. maybe i worded it wrong

OB1Biker2443d ago (Edited 2443d ago )

I never get how some people can say the first two years were no good. Bloodborne is a game of the generation gamers will still talk about in decades.
ThinkThink

As for xbox exclusives. I usually don't judge since I m only PS gamer but I've seen quite a few comments gloating about the famous 'holiday season' line up which I always found silly given the number of multiplat invariably packing the last few months of the year. Funny how many gaming sites kinda sweep the topic under the rug now.

mark_parch2443d ago

my question is if sea of thieves, crackdown 3 and halo wars 2 were originally planned for 2016 where are all the games that were planned for this year?

rainslacker2442d ago

Exactly this. I've been saying this for a while now. Just not as succinctly as you just did.

Imagine how terrible this year would have been if all those games had released last year....although I think SoT was just rumored to be 2016, but was really expected to be a summer 2017 release.

Bathyj2443d ago

So what's worst? Having less games in the first year while you're still supporting your last gen console or having less games mid gen when your console is supposed to be hitting is stride in its prime, while simultaneously trying to rejuvenate your stagnate console with a hardware refresh and not giving any enticing reason to own it?

QUIMICOMORTAL2442d ago

Yeah, you should know sony had FFXIV, second son, resogun, MLB the show, bloodborne, until dawn, transistor, etc in the forst two years! so you are VERRRY wrong!

Try to research before making a fool of yourself next time!

ThinkThink2442d ago

All consoles have rough patches. Allz I'm trying to say. I have no problem making a fool out of myself. I'll fit right in here.

piebald442442d ago

yea 3rd party games can be played on PS, in addition to the PS exclusives.

rainslacker2442d ago

THere will always be lean years for any console maker, but never to the point where it's only 2 1st/2nd party games released in a year. Dry years are typically at launch, not 4 years in. Next year isn't looking any better, and last year was only marginally better than this year.

Sony's driest year had them releasing only one less game than MS best year. Sony has released more the first half of this year than MS seems to have lined up for this year and next. Nintendo has released more for the Switch since it's launch than MS has released or announced since and including FH3 last holiday. Sony's first two years individualy still saw more in house or 2nd party games release for their system than what MS has planned for this year and next.

MS year isn't dry, it's practically barren, with just a small oasis in Forza coming out this holiday....yet another yearly franchise, which already has it's fan base and isn't likely to entice anyone into the brand.

We're well past the point of just saying that MS is just having a dry year. MS is just dry. MS says to jump in, but they aren't filling the pool with anything.

Make your lists of 1st/2nd party games for each company. Ignore those 3rd party exclusives which would certainly put Sony on top every year. Then come back and say that Sony was dry. Stop trying to give MS the benefit fo the doubt that things just didn't line up. That's what people have been doing since QB released, hyping up games like CD3 and SoT to be much more than they are, and elevating Forza to some god-like franchise, and accepting the expected Halo and GeOW as perfectly acceptable alternatives to a large diversity in games.

It's OK to call MS to task and ask them what the heck they're doing. Even if you're a fan, it won't hurt you, it can only help you, and if you're lucky, maybe MS will get their heads out fo their asses and you can figure out what you'll be playing besides multi-plats with apparently the most powerful console.

It's OK to look out for yourself and ask for more. It doesn't make you less than a fan. If Sony wasn't delivering, or letting me know what they had in store for the future, I'd be asking them the same question. Because I want games. I ask MS this very question now, because I want games.

ApocalypseShadow2443d ago (Edited 2443d ago )

It just has to be said....and you know what I'm going to say because we've been saying it over and over...

Having more money than the competition but investing less and spending less on creating studios that produce games for a system you want to sell worldwide catches up with you eventually. The competition, even in their darkest hours, kept spending money holding on to studios, creating advanced game engines and producing hit after hit until they produced one of their finest games yet in the Last of Us on PS3.

The investment continues on to this day with efforts producing games like Horizon and Uncharted 4 and their engines. Wanting to be the leading platform but not investing like this catches up. And instead of countering, listened to social media belittling their power and produced a powerful system, but not the reason why you buy a console which is GAMES. Even dropped the camera which was a fine piece of hardware but didn't put any GAMES out to show why you should have it. Only left it an expensive mic.

Look, we all know third parties make some of the best games out there and not just Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. But when your competitor is the more popular platform, the best selling platform, and will get the same third party games as you, you have to dig deep to produce something that gets you noticed. And Microsoft is not stepping up to balance and counter Sony's efforts. It takes years to do this. Which is why Sony started early. Gamers laughed at them as third parties went multiplatform, not because they hated Sony. But to survive in an economic crisis.

A bad year is a result of years of bad planning. Now Sony is laughing because those seeds they planted years ago have now produced a forest of trees. Microsoft needs to show why they're a leading software company because we know they're capable with hits like flight simulator, crimson skies, age of empires, mech assault, etc. Producing features and back end software does nothing when the fan base want and need GAMES.

freshslicepizza2443d ago (Edited 2443d ago )

"It just has to be said"

Of course it does. Again and again and again because like you said, you hardly ever post in Microsoft articles. Ask yourself, what would it take for Microsoft to earn you as a customer, one good game you want? 10 good games you want? 100? When you have a pattern of never talking about any games this entire generation that interest you from Sunset Overdrive to State of Decay 2 and everything in between one has to ask why you continue to bother?

I have always said Microsoft needs to invest more into their own studios but I can also enjoy titles like Forza Horizon 3. Problem with you guys is you view everything as one identity, Microsoft, and therefore everything gets lumped into one. Kind of like the hate towards EA or Ubisoft. Some can't talk about a certain game, instead they just don't like the company therefore it's easier to just ignore their entire output. Sadly this is the aftermath of console wars. You support Sony's vision and output, therefore you feel obligated to support and focus on games like Gran Turismo while denouncing Forza for example. This isn't about games, it's about how feel about the hardware maker.

showtimefolks2443d ago

Moldy

What would it take for you to be happy with ps4? See how that feels

bluefox7552443d ago (Edited 2443d ago )

I can't speak for him, but for me, it would take a few good games, on the quality level of Sony's exclusive titles. Games that I couldn't play anywhere else. If this criteria were met, I would happily go back to Microsoft and buy an Xbox One S tomorrow. Zero interest in their new console though, even if they did have games. Frankly, I don't think that is a lot to ask.

What about you Moldy? What would it take for Sony to win your coveted support? As a fellow PC gamer, I find it almost bizarre that someone who claims to be such a big PC gamer, spends such an inordinate amount of time playing damage control for a console that ends up being nigh irrelevant to PC gamers.

_-EDMIX-_2443d ago (Edited 2443d ago )

" you view everything as one identity"

Doesn't help when MS only really backs Forza, Halo and Gears long term.....

Can you even name a new AAA series they've made this gen?

"Kind of like the hate towards EA or Ubisoft."

Well no, they actually make new IP as SERIES sooo yea.

Titanfall, Anthem, Watchdogs etc.

You can say what you want, but MS has been milking the same IP for a very, very, very long time. Its not even that they exist, its that its ALL THAT IS COMING FROM THEM LONG TERM!

We all know what is coming next, everyone does.

Halo 6, Gears 5, Forza 7...

Again, nothing to do with those games coming, simply that is ALL THAT IS COMING!

Damn, they are letting NINTENDO beat them, a company that notoriously rarely makes new IP, yet Arms, Splatoon, Xenoblade..

Buddy, you stated it yourself "Microsoft needs to invest more into their own studios", stop getting mad because everyone else sees this too.

You can't have it both ways. So its bad when we bring it up, but you also agree with it?

smh

Its clear that its getting harder and harder to keep defending this buddy, like laughably.

Sam Fisher2443d ago (Edited 2443d ago )

@ moldy

I used to be a ms guy, had the og xbox, then the 360, i loved the 360 when it started (perfect dark zero was my first online mp game). I loved that system until 3 major reasons turned me away from them, the 1st and foremost was rrod. That to me was a big betrayal to the consumers just to get ahead. It affected me 3 times. The 2nd was after halo 3 i started realizing the forza halo gears pattern, i told myself i wasnt going with sheep, noticed since ms was winning they just got lazy with their first party, and 3rd (at the time) xbox live was the only thing charging people to play online, another notion that ms looked at their pockets first and foremost before give a treat to their fans. And when i learned ps3 had free games plus discounts with their subscriptions i said now thats consumer friendly.

So not all the time its about how many games it has, or everyone else on it. Sometimes you have to compare which company is the lesser evil

Aenea2443d ago

Funny moldy being a hypocrite once more!

When was the last time you didn't post in a PS4 article, hmm? You're always one of the first! You also are negative of practically anything Sony does, basically pot meet kettle...

notachance2443d ago

@moldy that's what you do to PS4 though? buy a mirror hypocrite.

Z5012443d ago

Me for example. I didn't want a o.g. Xbox UNTIL i seen Ninja Gaiden Black. Yep, one game is all it takes sometimes. MS hasn't had that 'it' game this gen.

Why o why2443d ago

C'mon moldy. . That's a bit rich coming from that account. You frequent most articles that have a whiff of negativity about Sony. You're in no position tell others much.

The problem with you being annoyed with hearing this from people 'again and again. . . . . ' is because when people were saying this people were getting all defensive, others deflected and some in straight denial to the problems everyone outside of x bubble could see. Trust me, if people actually called ms out sooner and they fixed shit, people would have way less to say. Many had zero issue calling Sony or Nintendo out over perceived frailties so it seems weird that one of if not the biggest issues a console can have is side stepped and made excuses for.

yomfweeee2443d ago

It is about the hardware maker.... because they suck at making games. Get it?

This rant from you is beyond hilarious because you talk crap about Sony at every chance. You're the one blindly defending Microsoft when it is clear they have done nothing for years 6-7 and yes I'm including several years prior to X1 because they abandoned good support for that years before X1 was released.

InTheLab2443d ago

Bro....... There's very little in between Sunset Overdrive and State of decay.

The majority of the games launched inbetween are Forza titles.

It's the reason why 2017 is one of the worst years for xbox. Xbox is not losing because of the ps4. It's losing because of Phil, thw xbox live first attitude, and the low effort output of Microsoft Studios.

When was the last time MS won game of the year? Pretty sure it's been two generations...

Who wants to play on what's largely been a console for loyalists. At what point will we be rewarded for all of the money we have dumped into xbox Live? They have made billions and all they can come up with is the xbox 3.5?

This isn't about the maker of the console. This is about the failure of the xbox brand to give anyone but the diehards a reason to own an xbox.

freshslicepizza2443d ago (Edited 2443d ago )

First off it's become quite clear Microsoft is putting out the least amount of effort into creating their own games. Many of us are also frustrated with companies like Valve who have slowed down in their own output and instead have put their focus running Steam. So i question the direction Microsoft is taking as far as a game developer.

Second of all I have gotten a sour taste of supporting any console now that I am reaping the rewards of PC gaming. I really don't like all the restrictions and added console tax put into place to compensate for all that money spent in R&D and marketing. As a PC gamer it becomes quite bizarre to me how much effort people put into the forums about exclusives, all while trying to be part of some identity.

This is why even though Microsoft lacks it's own exclusives it's still a platform with many games to play on and if people don't want to venture into PC gaming like I did then the Xbox One X will be the platform for anyone who wants the best performing games. But then it comes down to simle economics, which is why people argue and fight to begin with.

UCForce2443d ago

You are not helping,Moldy.

Scatpants2443d ago

Well I have an Xbox and I don't care about them or Sony as a company. What I do care about is the fact that for the past couple years Microsoft has only put out like 1 or 2 games I want and those are just the usual Gears and Forza nonsense. They've been hardcore dropping the ball if you ask me. Where is Below? I actually wanted that game, for a pixel game it is taking an eternity. I know that's not Microsoft's fault but it seems to be the case with just about everything they announce.

thehitman13982443d ago

Moldy........moldy............ .moldy.

You are a rare snowflake indeed.

Normally don't like calling ppl names, but with your history and track record, you clearly are in need of attention and will grasp for anything.

Goodbye snowflake, goodbye. 😁

Godmars2902442d ago

The hate for EA and Ubisoft comes repeated mistakes. Compromises in quality as well as content in favor of stock values and microtransactions. With it being worse that fans reward such behavior while complaining about it.

And MS is the same way. Looking at short term solutions for long term goals only to shortchange efforts in both while declaring success. Meanwhile while sale reports tell one story, which they've gone ever more silent in repeating, their fan base echos whatever their PR people shill.

OffRoadKing2442d ago

Now replace the name Sony with Microsoft and refer to Microsoft games and your statement still works as it pertains to xbox fanboys, its defenitly not a one sided issue.

KickSpinFilter2442d ago

I play Sp and MP games all the time, so far I've been interested in the Gears IP and Shadow Complex for last gen although I got to play SC this year on the PS4. That really was not enough to entice me to get a 360 last gen especially when I could go to a friends have some beers and play the 360. This gen I was interested in playing Quantum Break, Cuphead, Gears 4, check out Sunset perhaps. Crackdown 3 was one of the major games I was looking forward to, but after seeing some rather lousy SP game footage not so psyched for CD3 anymore. Also with Spencer saying just go back to our BC catalog to get your SP on, was kinda like FU, I want new SP games also not just old. I've rethought my double ownership of two systems, Double downed on PS4 with a Pro and PSVR, wheel and headset, and think I consider myself all set for this gen. Now I'm buried in a back catalog of games I can't dig out of! But going in this gen was ready to be a PS4 and XB1 owner, just not yet feeling it yet. I was really hyped for QB but with a 77 on Metacritic and Inside coming to PS4 a month later and a really questionable Crackdown I'm just not feeling it. I'm actually a little concerned for XB1X launch.

Aenea2442d ago

"As a PC gamer it becomes quite bizarre to me how much effort people put into the forums"

And why are you so active in the forums? Nothing to play on your PC?

So you criticise Sony and PS4, get called out about your favouring Xbox and giving them a pass then deflect?! What does PC even have to do with this launch?! You have not answered all the counterpoints that have been brought up. Not a single one (no pun intended), how about answer those points brought up to you instead of pretending they weren't brought up?! Oh right you literally have no counter argument so the deflection shields go up and you start up about PC, Ubisoft and EA. Valid points brought up about BOTH EA and Ubisoft and terrible industry practices both have done and suspect quality of games and your response?! NOTHING.

PS4/ Sony make minor error?! Boom you are in here throwing every BS reason to throw them under the bus, Xbox done something terrible?! Bam, right in their to deflect. Xbox is pretty much dead to me. Switched to PS4 for Destiny 2. I turned it on for the first time in a couple months only to turn off my auto renew for Xbox live.

I'm trying to find a reason to keep my Xbox One but the only game on the horizon that interested me is Crackdown 3 and it's been delayed.

"the capital group of PCF Group S.A."

If you're getting funding from a group that needs two different ways of Acronyming itself, things will not go the way you want them to.

banger8816h ago

If it was more online-only crap then good riddance.

jjb19812h ago

Outriders was crap. They slapped that game together and threw in a loot system to get players' attention. This game was absolutely jank and the always online nonsense made it stutter like crazy. People Can't Optimize.

thorstein1h ago

I liked Outriders but I could see where the artistic vision was compromised. The way the industry is now, it wouldn't surprise me that upper management would scrap something that didn't pull in money via gaas, mts, or other means.

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

solideagle6h ago

you should apply in MS PR team buddy, I think you will do a great job in my humble opinion :)

Sonic18813h ago

I thought darthv72 and Obscure_Observer already work for Microsoft 🤔

dveio3h ago

MS: "Xbox services and content without AB up 1%, with AB up 62%. Hardware down 31%. In total a loss of 350 mill."

darthv72: "Seems about right."

MS: "Excuse m ..."

darthv72: "I don't hardly play on my consoles directly."

MS:

I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..

If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.

shinoff21834h ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Cacabunga3h ago

Hardware sales are so bad that Sony and Nintendo are blowing the sales off the water with their hardware.

If Xbox are losers, others aren’t..
Xbox already tried everything with Xbox live then subscriptions went down so much that they had to find something else. Their fans subscribed then reached saturation rather quickly.

Hardware and exclusive games is where it’s at! Keep gamers excited, announce decent software and people will support you

Xbox hardware revenue tanks to lowest point of Xbox Series generation

Profchaos8h ago

I'm not surprised surface is struggling they aren't relevant anymore

XBManiac7h ago

Too expensive hardware when others offer the same or more for less? Good work, Green Team.

SimpleDad7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

"Despite some early successes for Xbox games on rival platforms, Xbox hardware is down by a massive 31 percent this quarter."
"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."

That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.

purple1016h ago

Activision: "we gonna need a bigger rucksack/backpack please"

Microsoft: "why's that"

Activision: "to carry yo' weak ass'

Profchaos6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Top brass have also wanted to start seeing returns on the 100 billion they have put into various Xbox related moves so seeing more multiplatform games is highly likely especially from abk

It's basically saying that PlayStation is the reason Xbox is afloat right now thinks to Ps5 versions of COD

Kornholic4h ago

So basically PS and PC gamers' money is keeping Xbox on life support.

An Update on This Year’s BlizzCon and Blizzard’s 2024 Live Events

Blizzard writes: "After careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024. This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it. While we’re approaching this year differently and as we have explored different event formats in the past, rest assured that we are just as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years."
