Will they give anything back? Like Live and Psn, the free games / deals. Because, I mean, 12 games a year might be a lot for them, unless they embrace indies

DemonChicken2658d ago (Edited 2658d ago )

One free game a month (SNES or NES) and expires at the end of the month, price unannounced - value already sounds shit.

I am in the UK and the switch is already expensive as it is plus already paying for multiple subscriptions. Well looking forward to seeing Nintendo charging for online play in the future for their handhelds too.

Just because one company started doing it (plus they also had ads on top) doesn't mean it right to do it. Glad some gamers or people disagreeing rather vote for their favorite company than their wallets!

XanderZane2658d ago

You'll get 1 free (NES or SNES) game for the month, but you don't get to keep it. After the month is over, you can't play it anymore. Will have to uninstall it. Nintendo is greedy and stingy.

NeoGamer2322658d ago

Charging for online gameplay was always inevitable.

You cannot continue to run an online gaming network for free forever.

It costs companies literally hundreds of millions of dollars per year to keep these networks up, continually modernize them, and keep them as secure as possible. They can't just sweep that money under the carpet as a free service. The reason Nintendo is now charging is that it needs to fund the expansion of their online gaming service and this is the only way to do it.

tyasia02658d ago (Edited 2658d ago )

That's B.S. The networks could easily pay for themselves from the revenue from game sales and advertisements. Steam, EA Origin, Uplay ect. are all free on PC. Microsoft was just greedy and realized console gamers (like you) were naive.

Derceto2658d ago (Edited 2658d ago )

lol Hundred of millions per year. ROFL Sure, maybe collectively in the entire gaming industry.

It's called operating cost of your business. The problem with this new generation of morons, is that they are happy to take on the operating costs of every company because the company says it's necessary.

What's next? Companies gonna charge monthly for people to pay for their cafeteria and cleaning staff too?

Muzikguy2658d ago (Edited 2658d ago )

I don't believe this at all and I certainly don't believe it's anything like "hundreds of millions of dollars per year" to keep up online networks. My guess is that it's actually quite cheap to do and it's masked with the whole "it costs money to upkeep" idea so companies can roll in some extra cash. Operating costs should never be pushed onto the end user. That's part of business.

Firebird3602657d ago

That's cool and all but the problem is as of now, Nintendo doesn't have a online gaming network. Wiiu online was laughable at best. Nintendo is not psn or Xbox live. And don't even get me started on needing a smartphone to setup online play and voice chat... what in the actual F...!

"In a twist and a first for the industry, we're pleased to announce that you'll be able to use your smartphone to party chat. No, we don't think that it's backwards"

XanderZane2658d ago

Still don't know why Nintend thinks we should pay them for their terrible online service. Wasn't SSBB a mess online? Splatoon was good. Still, Nintendo doesn't offer enough for gamers to have to pay for it. Unless it's $5 a year, they can forget it.

PistolsAtDawn2657d ago

They actually more so copied PSN than XBL....XBL at least invested in Dedicated servers to be used for gaming and not behind a secondary paid service. PSN started charging without upgrading their network at all....which is what Nintendo appears to be doing.

You can't trust Phil Spencer. I never trust anything he says.

zidane13412657d ago

But yet Im sure you trust anything Sony says

SirBradders2658d ago

I'm starting to get sick of the Spencer said articles. Please stop approving this junk, we don't get this crap from Sony and Nintendo all the time.

Tussin1872658d ago

Get off of Twitter. It's like that other guy with funny hair thats on there on all the time...Can't think of his name...hmmm

.

Irishguy952658d ago

We used to. From Reggie at some point and a few other wankers from Sony. All of them just BS marketers

Featuring_Dante2658d ago

that is SO inappropriate. reported!

SegaGamer2658d ago

The guy can't seem to say anything without people making a big deal out of it. People are obsessed.

PistolsAtDawn2657d ago (Edited 2656d ago )

Just cause you don't like something doesn't mean you have to visit the page and try to get it silenced. Just move on.

People ask Phil questions all the time and he engages with the audience, MOST would suggest that is great in a leader of a massive gaming company. If it were the opposite and he never wrote back but Sony did...Something tells me you'd be spinning it as a great thing for Sony and MS acting too high and mighty. I've never seen anyone here that is complaining right now, complain when Neil Druckmann or Mark Cerny has something to say (even when it's about something MS related that they don't have the inside knowledge about). Only a fool complains about too many options to gain knowledge.

@Bradders below ..."I wonder who, fanboys?"

SirBradders2656d ago

Never assume because you'll make an ass out of me and you bro.

Moonman2658d ago

Yeah because Odyssey and Seasons of Heaven will be better than Sea Of Thieves. ;p Zelda will be better than a vaporware Fable. I really don't blame him for being excited. ;p

BLKxSEPTEMBER2658d ago

Zelda will most likely be better than what Sony or MS has to offer this year period. Let's not act like Zelda can only topple MS games...

trooper_2658d ago

A game we've barely heard anything about?

BLKxSEPTEMBER2658d ago

Barley heard anything about? Are you kidding me? There are hours and hours of gameplay on YouTube of Zelda and it's ZELDA!!! It's like 30 years old so exactly how much info do you need for a Zelda game? You must be like 12 or something to make such a silly comment.

AmUnRa2657d ago (Edited 2657d ago )

So Zelda will top games like, Horizon? And all the other games on the PS4?
You Nintendofans are delusional and not for real.

Embracer CEO demonstrates a masterclass in mental gymnastics in latest interview.

Turned based Phantasy Star and Shinning Force remain at the top of my list of Sega IPs that need to return. At the very least I'd take a Shining Force collection that has 1,2,3, CD and the Game Gear entries.

FinalBoss6d ago

I was hesitant to put these two on. I've personally played more PSO than the RPG version. And shame on me, I don't remember much about Shining Force to talk about it properly.

That said, so many Sega licences deserve their place in this list.

jznrpg3d ago

A new Phantasy Star in the numbered series would be amazing. Shining Force too. But I’d settle on some collections as that’s probably the best we will get

anast5d ago

I don't trust Sega to do a proper comeback. The games will be just remastered and/or monetized to death.

gold_drake5d ago

shining force.

but indont see that happening unfortunately.
