Will We Finally See A Good Video Game Movie Adaptation?

Nothing sends chills down the spine than mentioning those dreaded words, video game movie adaptation. Whether you’re a fan of games or a fan of movies, everyone is pretty much in agreement that video game adaptations are average at best and downright offensive at worst.

However, there has been a sudden glimmer of excitement with the release of the new Warcraft trailer. For the first time in a long time, there seems to be some genuine anticipation for a video game movie adaptation. Along with an Assassin’s Creed movie and Activision launching their own movie and TV studio, could we finally see the day where there are good video game movie adaptations? I look into the evidence and also discuss what these movies need to do to learn from the mistakes of the past.

It's hard to do game movies because a game is such a more immersing investment than watching 10 to 50 hour game story condensed into 90 plus minutes. Cant have the same impact. I personally think the best movie adaption is Resident Evil Degeneration but that's really just CGi which suprisingly works because when you add real actors you rarely get the perfect one. You get them doing their own interpretation of the character. This is why I think Ratchet and Clank will be awesome. It's just better that way.

But that's Hollywood, not fan fiction. Fan fiction can do it right. Fallout Nuka Break is my favorite web series. Plus Red Star and The other film on Caesers Legion are really good.

That's it! Hollywood should invest in like Dracogen and Machinema does. And also ban Uwe Boll from the guild

There were some great video game movies like:
Super Mario Bros.
Double Dragon
Street Fighter: The Movie(This one was good enough to make a game off of!)
House of the Dead
Bloodrayne

I think I've proved my point. /s

I actually didn't mind the very first "Resident Evil", and I thought "Max Payne" had it's moments. Tomb Raider 1 and 2 were decent as well...

But yes,

Postal,
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale
Dungeons and Dragons
Alone in the Dark
DOOM
The rest of the Resident Evil franchise
The 2nd Silent Hill movie
and so, so many others have failed miserably.

I really believe it's because studios are trying to market it as a movie that can appeal to everyone, and by doing so, the film is stripped of any originality, and becomes a watered down retread of every terrible movie it tries to avoid.

I liked the first Silent Hill film, not a great movie but a good movie. That sequel tho...

I quite liked the movie also, one of the better videogame movies, wasn't amazing but it did some things right

Xmen Origins: Wolverine was decent.

That wasn't a game to movie adaption. The game was going to be an original story like the Arkham saga but they were forced to go movie IP. Sad too, the gameplay was great but the story and pacing sucked.

Also, notice that the movie was PG13 and the game is M rated and super gory?

I didn't read title correctly. I was thinking Movie with game tie in. Thanks

Not a game movie though, it's an already developed IP by marvel. NukaCola is correct though.

WoW movie cannot even get the costume right. Look at how small the shoulder pads are in that image.

Also Assassins Creed seem to be shaping up good. I saw it being filmed at Valletta Malta. There are leap of faiths etc
