Up until now, the PS4 has been easily outselling the Xbox One. However, the tide seems to have turned at this year's E3. Insert Charlie Sheen "winning" joke here.

it was never a lifetime xbox exclusive. it was simply a case of how long do you have to wait for the PS4 version. And given that its a whole year and both xbox gamers and PS gamers will have moved on to other games, its a moot point. Buy the time it hits PS4, xbox and even PC gamers will be long done with it.

I think the US/UK is possible for MS to eventually overtake in monthly sales if they continue on this pace of rapid improvement while the competition is moving slowly.

This sort of thing takes a long time to re-build trust in a brand name that delivers superior console experience.

Europe is another area that MS is going to have to work on for years to come to build that trust.

It is a slow process, but the result so far is far better than anyone expected in the incredibly short amount of time.

News about the Xbox One used to be dominated by negativity, and now it is starting to turn the tide as the one with the best games lineup this year, and even better next year. The one that has tight integration with Windows 10, and has rapid development of features and delivering what people that was impossible with backwards compatibility.

It is quite an amazing run in the span of 12-18 months turn around.

An increase of x% is nice and good, but without knowing the original number it's a moot point. If the original number is 10 000 it doesn't really change much, if the original number is 400 000 then yes it would be a great gain to increase let's say by 60%.

I would be also curious to know from where the information comes that on what outsold what in specific weeks. To my recollection US sales numbers are only for the full month and never broken down by week.

As if it would overtake PS4 here in the US either. There's no chance. PS4 has won every single month this year except for April. June was won thanks to a popular Batman bundle.

September will be won thanks to a Destiny Taken King bundle.
October will be won due to a (likely) price cut.
November will be won due to Black Ops 3 and Star Wars bundles.
December will be equal to November.

Sure, Microsoft has bundles of their own like Forza and probably Halo but those don't stand a chance against massive IP like Star Wars and Call Of Duty combined with the fact hat PS4 is the default choice for gamers, even when it is currently $50 more expensive.

IF I find myself feeling like I have a lack to play in the coming year, I may be compelled to pick it up on PC, but the limited exclusivity is doing nothing for one whom owns the platform, and it certainly isn't a title I'd buy a system for had I not owned one already.

I look at the landscape for the year, and really the only titles I'm intrigued by are multi-platform titles. I'm buying Fallout on PS4 (and Xbox One), but outside of that Halo's gameplay footage at E3 really left me a bit...well...it left me wanting more. Not more in the regards that it has me excited, more in the regards that we've been waiting a long time for this and it still seems to me that 343 simply doesn't have the magic that Bungie does, as it relates to the Halo franchise. If there is one thing working against MS its that they still have an uphill battle agaisnt perceptions brought about by THAT reveal. It has cost them deatly this console cycle. But Inspite of that, I still reckon they will have the US by the years end and the UK by april 2016. Quote me on that. Righty...I played the H5 beta. The feel of the controls are better than any bungie halo in MP. and I am a pretty hardcore halo guy. As for the E3 thing.....I wont judge the campaign based on such a small snippet. H4s story telling was better executed than previous halo games. I played halo 1-4 on MCC and 343i doesnt get the credit they deserve.

As for that 'bungie magic'...its not there in there own game, Destiny, so I guess that magic in no small part had something to do with MS. The crucible is one the worst PVP modes I have played in anty shooter. The story is really just background chatter to a game that is little more than a loot-em-up. How the mighty have fallen. We get negative destiny articles every other week, along with a 100+ comments tearing the game a new one. So much for that bungie magic. and its a shame. because I have been a fan of theirs since H1 back on the first xbox.

X1 is selling just on par with PS3 at this point in the lifecycle.
PS4 sold more than PS3 and 360 combined at this point in the lifecycle.

Its absurd how people think that X1 can somehow overtake PS4 when its not as huge a factor in Europe, Asia, and RoW. The gap has been growing since day 1, not once has it ever shrunken. The only place X1 can be competitive with PS4 is in North America, and Sony's console usually wins most of the months for a year in that region.

Well said and very true. Admittadly I am getting over these titles which spell out X1 will overtake the PS4... There's always a possibility but highly improbable.

However, I love Xbox in second place this gen. Why? Just take a look at what MS have done since launch. COMPLETELY changed and revamped their xbox business model, unmatched feature and general support, new features as per the fans request (almost monthly there's a new one), new IPs hitting next year and more!

This gen has given MS a good kick up the arse and I love it. Now look at how well they're supporting the Xbox One. I'm glad PS4 is selling more as it was a necessary cycle. Both consoles are doing extremely well and it's healthy to have competition no matter what a fanboy will say.

I really hope xbox division rallies soon. If this gen isn't successful enough in terms of profit, I think it will venture into software only. M$ is in financial trouble since their billion dollar losses on Nokia and they are banking on windows 10 to keep them relevant. If the company itself doesn't get it together in other sectors I fear their gaming division will suffer. I don't want that as much as I am loathe to get a One, the competition is good for all gamers.

MS know they have lost THIS round worldwide, but they have more than enough to wither the storm that they knew they would be sitting in for the rest of this cycle post reveal. They are big enough to absorb the costs and keep developing forward without cuts...unlike some other companies.

I doubt they think that they will outsell the PS4 world wide, at this point. But the US and UK are well within their reach. take those regions back. Double down on first party content. Build and mature the Xbox-W10-PC environment, supporting both with their own exclusives as well as crossplay becoming more of a standard for third party multiplat games that are available on W10. And then build on these things going into the next xbox.

There will be a next xbox. and MS will be coming for blood..haunted by resolutiongate, the poor choice to launch with an expensive bundled accesory that ate into the console and some poorly chosen DRM policy, all of which handed sony an easy lead and mindshare.

Its really unlikely that Microsoft can retake US and UK this gen. Even after all the deals they make for X1, PS4 still sells more. The fact that PS4 is currently the most expensive platform and stil sells the most shows how much of a grasp it has on the market. Imagine what'll happen when Sony eventually drops the price. At that point it'll be hard for X1 to sell more for a month two like its struggled to in the past albeit with incredible deals.

For Microsoft to stand a chance at retaking these markets is to spend a lot on giving out ridiculous deals, and even then that's not a guarantee all year round.

PS4 is less than 1 million ahead in the U.S. there's no way MS will let them keep outselling them on their home turf. UK is still possible, Japan is irrelevant, and Europe is the mountain to climb. People expect there to be an overnight 180 after E3 when nothing they announced has been released yet. Once Halo drops, along with the other games, we'll see a sales spike for the rest of 2015. Then Quantumbreak will follow in the spring as well as the growing library for backwards compatibility.

What Microsoft fails to realize is that by now, just over 18 months after both consoles were released, hardcore gamers who would buy their console of choice sight unseen, have done so and most people buying them are doing so through word-of-mouth recommendations and because peers and friends have a particular console which, contrary to what Microsoft would have you believe, is the PS4 for the majority. Over the holidays parents will already have a clue what their darling child/children want through having the words PS4 thrown at them everyday from the first day of the autumn school term.

Frankly,like it or not, Sony and the PS4 have the gamers goodwill at this time and as a result the word of mouth recommendation is PS4. Microsoft would be better served by just trying to make better games and improve the overall user experience and give as much real value as possible. Paying Square Enix for timed exclusivity for Rise of the Tomb Raider is NOT money well spent when the IP has been available on both console brands of late and especially since the reboot was released for the PS4 just last year and sold the most on that new-gen console. The Xbone has 3 major exclusives coming out at around the same time in addition to ROTC and so many major multiplats like Fallout 4, Call of Duty, Just Cause 3, Battlefront, etc. This situation hardly maximizes the benefits of the purchase of this timed exclusivity. Phil Spencer did the deal to have a game that could rival Uncharted. It isn't as though Microsoft does not own several major first party studios, any of which are capable of coming up with a suitable IP.

Your question about open? Here is an example: Phil Harrison, then of Microsoft at the time of the release of Xbox One said "Xbox One is Kinect. They are not separate systems. An Xbox One has chips, it has memory, it has Blu-ray, it has Kinect, it has a controller. These are all part of the platform ecosystem." He and others of Microsoft said Kinect was mandatory and that the system would not work without it, that it was not possible to separate the two etc, etc. In face of the sales drubbing given to the Xbox One by PS4, Kinect was quickly discarded and viola! The console works just fine without Kinect. So most people need not have spent the extra $100 or more that they did to buy the console with Kinect. Yes, Microsoft are so open...

It's okay...I accept what you say and I agree that both MS and Sony have had issues that should have been avoided. As regards the spin, I am not paranoid but realistic. You would be surprised how much even multinational corporations micro-manage the spin on even minor news.

The ps3 outsold the xbox 360 from day one. it was inevitable that it would have caught up. This gen however it's a completely different thing. The xbox is behind and is still being outsold massively, there is no way (outside of sony going out of business) that the xbone will catch up.

I think this has always been the case. I remember the 360 vs PS3 era, it was a continuous Sony bashing for no reason. I remember the sales figures every month when the PS3 was losing, suddendly stopping after PS3 started selling more (and in the end overtaking). I remember the Halo 3 craziness, with all the goods sent to the reviewers.

1) This is spin straight from the horse's mouth. Greenberg put it out there and certain agents are now trying to normalize and legitimize this ridiculous celebration of a week of sales. As if anyone in their right mind would buy a PS4 knowing the Arkham Knight bundle would release a week later.

2) Definitely not one of the first times Xbox sales surpassed PS4's in NA. Xbox has won whole NPDs, let alone one week. And it's still losing worldwide and at home. Nice lie to make this seem different from all the other supposed comebacks, though.

PS4 is pretty much this gen's wii except it appeals to both casual and hardcore audience.

Here is the order of things in terms of sales for the entire gen:

1.PS4
2.XO
3.WiiU

What's best is subjective. The XB1 will be best for some while the PS4 will be best for others. The same can be said about the Wii U.

When you ask people why they think it's the best they will always come up with a reason like games library, hardware, controller, online etc.

I don't think its incorrect to state that a system is the best one for you but it would be incorrect to believe that it has to be the best for everyone else.

The PS4 is the best console for me. No one can dispute that no matter how hard they try. And the ones who try end up looking like idiots in my opinion. However I do recognise that the PS4 while being the best console for a ton of people isn't the best system for everyone. There are people out there who prefer the XB1 and Wii U over it and there's nothing wrong with that.

In the end we are just individuals with our own personal perferences. There's nothing wrong with having them but we shouldn't force them on others.

There's no way to argue around that and those who do are just making themselves look like fools. Like the ones (as an example) who claim that the Wii U is on par with the Xbox One and PS4 where graphical capabilities are concerned.

As a PS4 owner I accept that my system is the most powerful console on the market but I also accept that PCs with the right configurations can be more powerful than it.

I always accept facts as long as there is proof behind them. Which is something that many posters on this site should do in my opinion.

You must not be old enough to remember NeoGeo. Nothing compared to it graphically at the time, plus it had many exclusives. Same goes for the TurboGrafx-CD system. Having the graphical and technological edge does not guarantee success.

Things XB1 does better:

1- The Controller. XB uses Direct Wi-Fi for lower latency than PS4's Bluetooth 2.1. It also has better rumble with heptic feedback in the triggers and you can upgrade the controller firmware through the console. Throw in an option of that 150 dollar controller with even more functionality and its not even a competition.

2- Online. Thanks to Microsoft's Azure servers XBL is faster and more stable than PSN and provides the best multiplayer experience in games. MS also extremely aggressive on cheaters/hackers compared to Sony.

3- Kinect. Whole other level than PS4 Camera both in technology and functionality...and yes- voice recognition.

4- The console itself. It's faster, has better software, better wireless, multitasking, has more functionality, Windows 10 cross platforming, backwards compatibility with games, gamesaves, DLC and functioning online MP. Plug & play external harddrive support for seamless additional storage space, SmartGlass, better game sharing, is the best multimedia machine on the market and runs more cool/quiet.

Things that PS4 does better than XB1:

Better GPU.
Easier internal harddrive replacement.
Sales.

On the subject of games. It's all subjective, and if any of you reading this DON'T own all of the platforms you're missing out big time. Stop being a fanboy and try being a gamer instead.

23.8m for PS4 and

So I'm going to project a resounding NO.

It's called the snowball effect. With the PS4 so much ahead, we are seeing the PS4 become the lead platform for devs. It happened with the 360. Unless we see drastic sales spikes month after month for the One there is not a chance in hell the One will overtake the PS4. 3 months and 1 week out of 2 and half years of sales is not going to do it. Maybe these people think the PS4 will be taken off the market and not sold for a year in order for the One to catch up.

With win 10 comes keyboard and mouse support . So I will bet there is a version of office , maybe an office lite as well as who knows how much other software is in the pipe line. Now to be able to flick to an email client ,Facebook or whatever in a nano second between the latest Halo game and what ever else Xbox can do is a selling point which Sony can not compete . So I say Game on.
