2015: The Year Xbox One Overtakes PS4?

Up until now, the PS4 has been easily outselling the Xbox One. However, the tide seems to have turned at this year's E3. Insert Charlie Sheen "winning" joke here.

Maybe, assuming you forget there's a world outside the US market...

xHeavYx3200d ago (Edited 3200d ago )

"For the week of E3 2015, the Xbox One actually outsold the PS4, one of the first times its sales managed to pass the PS4."
Lol, seriously? There is a lot of wishful thinking in this article.

"Who is winning the console wars?"
Uh, maybe the one outselling the competition by aroumd 10M?

Lou-Cipher3200d ago (Edited 3200d ago )

Not only that,

The PlayStation 2016 lineup is dominant compared to Xbox. The gap between PS4 and Xone is only going to increase.

Plus,
The NEED to own an Xbox One is fading, now that Microsoft is losing its best franchises exclusivity. Looks like Halo/Gears/Forza are going to wind up Multiplatorm, and that is really going to keep people from buying a console that has no major exclusives.
Not to mention, Rise of the Tomb Raider has just been confirmed to land on PS4, so for the handful of people that were in denial about that being exclusive.

FlexLuger3200d ago

"The PlayStation 2016 lineup is dominant compared to Xbox."

I disagree...but whatever.Aside from UC4, horizon and NMS, there is little else on PS4 that interests me. Xbox on the other hand ...well...more than 3 games for me. Opinions, ay? Everybody has one......

"The NEED to own an Xbox One is fading, now that Microsoft is losing its best franchises exclusivity."

Dream on...the first gears was also on PC. Fable has always been on PC. Good luck waiting out for forza, halo and the rest. MS are not as dumb as you would like to believe. You'll see....

"Looks like Halo/Gears/Forza are going to wind up Multiplatorm, and that is really going to keep people from buying a console that has no major exclusives."

No halo. No forza. And the only gears the PC will be seeing is the remaster. Wishful thinking on your part. But hey you are right...everybody has a descent gaming PC with a good Nvidia or AMD GPU and 8GB of ram. everybody can afford to build one..oh wait..they dont. And they cant.

"Not to mention, Rise of the Tomb Raider has just been confirmed to land on PS4, so for the handful of people that were in denial about that being exclusive."

it was never a lifetime xbox exclusive. it was simply a case of how long do you have to wait for the PS4 version. And given that its a whole year and both xbox gamers and PS gamers will have moved on to other games, its a moot point. Buy the time it hits PS4, xbox and even PC gamers will be long done with it.

breakpad3199d ago (Edited 3199d ago )

these articles are made for promotion right???.....because is totally stupid to claim such things when the PS4 is f ing 12 mil ahead and its games are far more wanted than anything Xone has to offer(except maybe Scalebound ..but we dont know nothing about it yet)

pinkcrocodile753199d ago

Here we go with Sales figures.

If you have bought one or both of these competing machines, enjoy it.

Once you've bought it do you really give a monkey's who else bought one. I know I don't.

Cindy-rella3199d ago

Sorry im late to post my opinion but i couldnt compose myself from all the laughter. What 4kery

These articles reminds me of the ones where people ask who has the better exclusives so far this year between Xbox one and the ps4. Xbox one doesnt have any proper exclusive games released so far this year and itll be towards the end of the year before that happens.

The Xbox one will never overtake the ps4 unless the race is about selling less units. At least i had a proper laugh

freshslicepizza3199d ago

the article is clearly talking about the u.s. only market. however even in the u.s. only the ps4 is still stronger.

all sony has to do is drop the price of the ps4 and the momentum building for the xbox one and it's big line-up will be overshadowed. but sony doesn't want to give consumers a break on price because it's still selling so well even though they should because how many electronic devices that are 2 years old have the same price?

_-EDMIX-_3199d ago

@Flex- ""Looks like Halo/Gears/Forza are going to wind up Multiplatorm, and that is really going to keep people from buying a console that has no major exclusives."

No halo. No forza. And the only gears the PC will be seeing is the remaster. Wishful thinking on your part"

Wishful? Bud...who are you kidding? MS themselves are saying they will support PC more and MORE titles are coming to PC.

http://www.pcgamer.com/fabl...

Fable coming

http://www.pcgamer.com/rare...

Sea Of Thieves coming.

http://segmentnext.com/2015...

Gears 4 was hinted at and at this point...its very, very likely to happen.

http://thenextweb.com/micro...

and

http://www.technationnews.c...

They have more titles to announce soooo why are you trying to defend a concept they are not even trying to defend? LOL!

Oh Fable, Gears, Sea Of Thieves, KI, Alan Wake, etc but not Forza, not Halo..for now.

They have more to tell so that little list will likely shorten. I'm sorry but can't say what MS is or isn't when they are telling you they are bringing MORE TITLES....you don't know just how much more, for all we know, they are transitioning ot bring all XONE titles they make to PC, that very much can happen.

"it was never a lifetime xbox exclusive"

Tell that to the folks last year who where stating it was never coming to PS due to MS publishing.

I like how last year it was NEVER coming based on being published by MS, now its "wow bro we all knew it was just timed" lolz.

Now I don't mean that to you in general as you might have caught on the likeliness of it being timed, forgive me if you thought I was referring to you.

nix3199d ago

i see headline. i see some small site. i just know how dumb the article is going to be.

GMR_PR3199d ago

This articles are pointless and only serve to bring the troll out of their caves. Xbox One will never overtake PS4.

The X360 which had a better chance end up loosing against the PS3. Why would anyone think XBO could do it with PS4 is beyond me. XBO outside of US and Uk is almost none existent.

donthate3199d ago

I think the US/UK is possible for MS to eventually overtake in monthly sales if they continue on this pace of rapid improvement while the competition is moving slowly.

This sort of thing takes a long time to re-build trust in a brand name that delivers superior console experience.

Europe is another area that MS is going to have to work on for years to come to build that trust.

It is a slow process, but the result so far is far better than anyone expected in the incredibly short amount of time.

News about the Xbox One used to be dominated by negativity, and now it is starting to turn the tide as the one with the best games lineup this year, and even better next year. The one that has tight integration with Windows 10, and has rapid development of features and delivering what people that was impossible with backwards compatibility.

It is quite an amazing run in the span of 12-18 months turn around.

xHeavYx3199d ago

@donthate
The competition is still outselling the XOne, so the gap is getting bigger. There is no way the Xbox One will catch up to the PS4 in sales.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3199d ago

Did I wake up in a parallel Universe or is the person who wrote this ridiculous article forgetting that the PS4 sold the most hardware and software for the month of June?

Automatic793199d ago

I am going to get disagrees for saying this but the only tide that is really changing is the amount of content being giving by both content while MS is ramping first party production, Sony is content with 3rd parties giving them exclusives especially companies from Japan.

johndoe112113199d ago

"while MS is ramping first party production,"

really now??? where are all these first party games they are ramping? and please don't mention the annual forza/halo/gears because those are a given. I want to hear about the first party games that are being ramped up outside of those. Go on, i'll wait.......................... ..........

Chevalier3199d ago

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/...

Except people disagree because Sony still releases more 1st party games than MS.

Also ramping up production of what? Like Johndoe said yearly releases hardly count as ramping up production.

ninsigma3199d ago

While I agree that Xbox has some great games coming up, the reason why it looks like ms is "ramping first party production", is that we know what the majority of their studios are working on while Sony still have a lot of studios working on projects we don't know about (but we do know they're working on stuff).

An increase of x% is nice and good, but without knowing the original number it's a moot point. If the original number is 10 000 it doesn't really change much, if the original number is 400 000 then yes it would be a great gain to increase let's say by 60%.

I would be also curious to know from where the information comes that on what outsold what in specific weeks. To my recollection US sales numbers are only for the full month and never broken down by week.

tiffac0083199d ago

Must be VGChartz data. Lol!

RocketScienceLvlStuf3199d ago (Edited 3199d ago )

What a joke article. The ms defenders are rallying.

This article tries to use percentages to make it's point.
The only reason xbone has a higher sales percentage increase is because it's sales last year where abysmal. PS4 sales have always been stellar and steady.

If xbones sales go from abysmal to poor that will show a percentage spike. It means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

GNCFLYER3199d ago

Lol. Sounds like Aaron Greenberg wrote this article.

iTechHeads3199d ago

As if it would overtake PS4 here in the US either. There's no chance. PS4 has won every single month this year except for April. June was won thanks to a popular Batman bundle.

September will be won thanks to a Destiny Taken King bundle.
October will be won due to a (likely) price cut.
November will be won due to Black Ops 3 and Star Wars bundles.
December will be equal to November.

Sure, Microsoft has bundles of their own like Forza and probably Halo but those don't stand a chance against massive IP like Star Wars and Call Of Duty combined with the fact hat PS4 is the default choice for gamers, even when it is currently $50 more expensive.

Captain_TomAN943199d ago

Haha who in their right mind thinks Xbox will overtake PS4 this year? Halo is a tired series and PS4 has tons of software deals this fall.

BallsEye3199d ago

yes, which is not sony bound. I'm in Europe and XO is doing grea over here.

PowerPlayaaa3199d ago

You sir are so in denial, I also live in Europe, if XO is doing "great",then Sony must do super duper extravaganza hyper boil lava melting extraordinary greatness good, yep :-)

sarshelyam3199d ago

@Flex...I think you give too much credit to the lineup, and the lack of importance Tomb Raider is to the platform. I own an Xbox One, and I own a PS4...I'll be waiting until the PS4 ver hits. IF I find myself feeling like I have a lack to play in the coming year, I may be compelled to pick it up on PC, but the limited exclusivity is doing nothing for one whom owns the platform, and it certainly isn't a title I'd buy a system for had I not owned one already.

I look at the landscape for the year, and really the only titles I'm intrigued by are multi-platform titles. I'm buying Fallout on PS4 (and Xbox One), but outside of that Halo's gameplay footage at E3 really left me a bit...well...it left me wanting more. Not more in the regards that it has me excited, more in the regards that we've been waiting a long time for this and it still seems to me that 343 simply doesn't have the magic that Bungie does, as it relates to the Halo franchise. It looked slow, uninspired...certainly beautiful to look at, but I need more than a pretty face.

FlexLuger3199d ago (Edited 3199d ago )

"I think you give too much credit to the lineup, and the lack of importance Tomb Raider is to the platform."

Games sell consoles. FACT.

Exclusives will pull you to one side or the other. If you can only afford one. FACT.

If there is one thing working against MS its that they still have an uphill battle agaisnt perceptions brought about by THAT reveal. It has cost them deatly this console cycle. But Inspite of that, I still reckon they will have the US by the years end and the UK by april 2016. Quote me on that. I k ow they still have a lot working against them, but these are two regions I think they will take back. I live in the UK btw. I also own a PS4 for what its worth. I dont give out my gamer tags often on either console but when asked to show photographic proof im am more than happy to post pics of my set up with my N4G name on a card in between my X1 and PS4.

Also...using your tombraider logic for a moment, we can dicount sonys third party marketing deals and timed DLC then...funny how we used to shit on MS for doing it, eh? Now people are citing third party deals as a reason why PS4 will dominate the holidays...The irony of N4G, never ceases to amaze me, in all honesty. sony lead them nearly 2:1 worldwide. In the states the difference is six figues..in the UK its even smaller. Just takes a nudge and one hell of a fall marketing push. If it makes sony fans feel any better, I dont think MS will beat the PS4 worldwide.

"I own an Xbox One, and I own a PS4...I'll be waiting until the PS4 ver hits."

So you own the platform that its coming out on this year, but you are going to play it on another platform a year later? Odd. But I dont judge.

"but the limited exclusivity is doing nothing for one whom owns the platform, and it certainly isn't a title I'd buy a system for had I not owned one already."

I agree with that. Im still buying starwars on XB1, along with any other game that has multiplayer that is third party.

"343 simply doesn't have the magic that Bungie does, as it relates to the Halo franchise."

Righty...I played the H5 beta. The feel of the controls are better than any bungie halo in MP. and I am a pretty hardcore halo guy. As for the E3 thing.....I wont judge the campaign based on such a small snippet. H4s story telling was better executed than previous halo games. I played halo 1-4 on MCC and 343i doesnt get the credit they deserve.

As for that 'bungie magic'...its not there in there own game, Destiny, so I guess that magic in no small part had something to do with MS. The crucible is one the worst PVP modes I have played in anty shooter. The story is really just background chatter to a game that is little more than a loot-em-up. How the mighty have fallen. We get negative destiny articles every other week, along with a 100+ comments tearing the game a new one. So much for that bungie magic. and its a shame. because I have been a fan of theirs since H1 back on the first xbox.

"It looked slow, uninspired"

You...DEFINITELY never played the beta..its a faster paced game than it has ever been. that is the first thing that stuck out to most people including the media that covered the beta.

I appreciate your respectful response btw.

X1 is selling just on par with PS3 at this point in the lifecycle.
PS4 sold more than PS3 and 360 combined at this point in the lifecycle.

Its absurd how people think that X1 can somehow overtake PS4 when its not as huge a factor in Europe, Asia, and RoW. The gap has been growing since day 1, not once has it ever shrunken. The only place X1 can be competitive with PS4 is in North America, and Sony's console usually wins most of the months for a year in that region.

Black0ut3199d ago

Well said and very true. Admittadly I am getting over these titles which spell out X1 will overtake the PS4... There's always a possibility but highly improbable.

However, I love Xbox in second place this gen. Why? Just take a look at what MS have done since launch. COMPLETELY changed and revamped their xbox business model, unmatched feature and general support, new features as per the fans request (almost monthly there's a new one), new IPs hitting next year and more!

This gen has given MS a good kick up the arse and I love it. Now look at how well they're supporting the Xbox One. I'm glad PS4 is selling more as it was a necessary cycle. Both consoles are doing extremely well and it's healthy to have competition no matter what a fanboy will say.

Fun times gaming =)

kaizokuspy3199d ago

I really hope xbox division rallies soon. If this gen isn't successful enough in terms of profit, I think it will venture into software only. M$ is in financial trouble since their billion dollar losses on Nokia and they are banking on windows 10 to keep them relevant. If the company itself doesn't get it together in other sectors I fear their gaming division will suffer. I don't want that as much as I am loathe to get a One, the competition is good for all gamers.

FlexLuger3200d ago

They will take back The US and the UK. But everywhere else sony will maintain their lead.

MS know they have lost THIS round worldwide, but they have more than enough to wither the storm that they knew they would be sitting in for the rest of this cycle post reveal. They are big enough to absorb the costs and keep developing forward without cuts...unlike some other companies.

I doubt they think that they will outsell the PS4 world wide, at this point. But the US and UK are well within their reach. take those regions back. Double down on first party content. Build and mature the Xbox-W10-PC environment, supporting both with their own exclusives as well as crossplay becoming more of a standard for third party multiplat games that are available on W10. And then build on these things going into the next xbox.

There will be a next xbox. and MS will be coming for blood..haunted by resolutiongate, the poor choice to launch with an expensive bundled accesory that ate into the console and some poorly chosen DRM policy, all of which handed sony an easy lead and mindshare.

FallenAngel19843199d ago

Its really unlikely that Microsoft can retake US and UK this gen. Even after all the deals they make for X1, PS4 still sells more. The fact that PS4 is currently the most expensive platform and stil sells the most shows how much of a grasp it has on the market. Imagine what'll happen when Sony eventually drops the price. At that point it'll be hard for X1 to sell more for a month two like its struggled to in the past albeit with incredible deals.

For Microsoft to stand a chance at retaking these markets is to spend a lot on giving out ridiculous deals, and even then that's not a guarantee all year round.

Clive_Bixby3199d ago (Edited 3199d ago )

PS4 is less than 1 million ahead in the U.S. there's no way MS will let them keep outselling them on their home turf. UK is still possible, Japan is irrelevant, and Europe is the mountain to climb. People expect there to be an overnight 180 after E3 when nothing they announced has been released yet. Once Halo drops, along with the other games, we'll see a sales spike for the rest of 2015. Then Quantumbreak will follow in the spring as well as the growing library for backwards compatibility.

Quote me on it, X1 sales will only go up from here on out.

FlexLuger3199d ago

@FallenAngel1984

Im going to quote you on that. I better bake you that crow from now. Have a nice day.

BlackTar1873199d ago

Halo drops and sales spike for the rest of 2015? Okay that's fine doesn't it come out in November?

Sorry to say but quantum break will be awesome but it won't do any more then other remedy games. I believe it will be awesome but it may not be your prototypical "Niche" title but it sure as heck isn't a sales blockbuster type game either.

3199d ago
SniperControl3199d ago

Maybe a possibility in the US(a far one at that) but here in the UK.....no.

Most of my friends, family and work colleges were Xbox last gen with a smattering of PS3's thrown in, however it's the other way round this time round with Playstation dominating the group and i dont see that changing anytime soon.

Bogan3199d ago

Microsoft is ruled by the shareholder and if they keep this performance up the Xbox one maybe their last console.

Money Talks and at the moment their not making it in hardware.

http://www.reuters.com/arti...

LexHazard793199d ago

Thanks man, interesting read. Xbox could indeed be the last one. I thought the whole point of the hardware was to get as many sold then make money off your software on said devices.
