Is the Wii U still for you?

It seemed that after regaining the trust and recognition of gamers from a strong and rejuvenating 2014, Nintendo regressed at E3. However, despite this clearly abhorrent presentation, I am still looking forward to the remainder of 2015 for my Nintendo indulgence. While Nintendo may not be flooding the market with titles, what they are releasing will be quality games.

I bought one about a year ago and I don't like it at all. Some of the games like WW HD, Smash and the Mario titles are cool, but the system is underpowered, the tablet is stupid, and it's not fun to have on. I am saddened this system came and gone with such disappointing run.

I really do not recommend anyone getting a Wii U now. With the NX on the horizon and Nintendo's commitment to at least be backward compatible with the last system I would wait to see what they offer. Regardless with what comes out between now and then

If you care about Wii backwards compatibility or Wii U games you should get a Wii U because if they go with hardware more similar to PS4 or XB1 it most likely won't be backwards compatible. If it's not going to be on their levels of power I don't see any reason for them to make a new console because it will just fail again for the same reasons. I love my Wii U but I still like my SNES and GCN way more.

I wouldn't be so sure about backwards compatiblity, since we really don't know what NX will be.

But I understand why ppl are hesitant now and wait ... On the other hand, if someone doesn't find enough games worth their time on WiiU now, then they will propably find not enough games in the future anyway.

I don't think it will be possible for NX to be backwards compatible due to to the Wii U tablet.

If the next Zelda is only going to be on,the Wii U instead of the NX, I have no choice but to find a way to buy a cheap used WII U to play just that one game. But hopefully it will be a launch title for NX so it will never have to come down to that. With the exception of Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, and Xenoblade Chronicles, I have no interest in any of the games on it...that also from me seeing the new Star Fox and Metroid. Very disappointing to say the least.

As someone who has a gaming pc, the lack of third party games on wii u doesn't bother me. The wii u offers more to me for exclusive games than the other two consoles.

I can't play The Show on PC. Or inFamous. Or DriveClub or The Order. Or Disgaea or Persona. Or Until Dawn(not that I will, with it being horror). Or GOW or Uncharted. My DCUO character doesn't transfer over to PC, so there's that, too.

The only ps4 exclusive that is a "must have" at the moment is bloodborne. I won't be getting a ps4 until Uncharted comes out at least.

The Wii U has smash bros, mario kart 8, Bayonetta, Pikmin 3, Mario World as current "must haves" imo. And we have star fox, mario maker, and xenoblade chronicles x on the way.

@spotie Persona 5 will also be on ps3, and gow was also on ps3. Infamous looks like a pretty good game but not amazing, and The Order and Driveclub are meh.

For me personally the exclusive offerings on ps4 aren't that great. I usually wait until there are three exclusives I really want before I buy a system. Until then, I'll be playing on my pc, wii u, and 3ds.

I want to play some of the games but the thing is too expensive, they force you to pay for the hyperexpensive gimmicky controller then you have to pay extra for the controller you actually want and also for a hard drive and they never reduce prices so games like 3D world are still 60 even though they are more than 1 year old.... if I could get the console with a standard controller at $199 and games at $20 each I'll buy it

And I'll buy a PS4 when I can get it for $200 with a tablet controller and $30 games. Putting unrealistic requirements on a purchase is just another way of saying 'never'.

Unfortunately no. After the E3 showing all it did was confirm my suspicions that Nintendo is abandoning the Wii U and putting the focus on the NX console.

Hopefully NX will be BC with the WiiU so I can pick up a few of the WiiU games I was interested in playing.

An hour long event that showed no games for the future of WiiU other than Tennis, Starfox and an Amiibo party game. I hardly call those games assurance for a bright and prosperous Wii U future.

While other companies showed off a wealth of future games, content and features for their present console.

We know nothing about the NX...excpet that it is being developed by Nintendo at this moment, it IS the next console by Nintendo and it WILL replace the FAILING Wii U which has no third party support and the next big game is Zelda which has been pushed back even further.

the real question is will a Nintendo console ever be a true standalone system in which you aren't missing out on 75% of the other games everyone else is playing? For quite some time Nintendo systems have been complimentary to the other consoles due to lack of 3rd party and proper online. A lot has to change for those 2 things to gain ground back. Starting a new console in the middle of a generation (again) doesn't seem like a smart option for publishers to invest time and money making games for a system that will have an even smaller install base than the Wii U upon launch, compared to PS4/XBO. They're in a tough spot.

I'm surprised that more gamers aren't buying up the Wii U in bulk. Lots of users on N4G talking about how important the exclusives are but they seem to ignore the Wii U and its heaps of software that can ONLY be played on a Wii U.

As a gamer who believes in rewarding companies that make great exclusives, I jumped on the Wii U last November. I expected millions of other gamers to follow suit. Why aren't they? What else does Nintendo need to do? Shouldn't the awesome exclusives be enough?

I feel like I've gone back in time 15 years and I'm watching the fall of the Dreamcast all over again...

no one ignoring the exclusives, Mario Kart sold over 5 million with 10 million console sales, that is 2 times the sales of any first party ps4 game. Smash bros also sold more than any 1st party game for Sony.

The system do not sell, but Nintendo games always sell a lot no matter how much system is sold, this is how they kept their profits in the gamecube era, well that and the gamecube never sold at a loss, so it was straight profit.

Dont mix up bad consoles sales with exclsuives sales, Cause Nintendo at this moment still leading number 1 for first party sales.....look at any numbers and you will see it....

on Playstation and Xbox, the 3rd party games sell more, look at the reports of game sales each company report, even if VGchartz estimates are wrong, it is still correct that all people do on playstation and xbox is play 3rd party games, look at the top 10 sales on ps4 out of the top 10 best selling games only 1 first party game made the list and it was at the end of the list

I've bought recently and i'm having so much fun with great exclusives, can't stop playing Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. lol, also games like Super Mario 3D World and Bayonetta 2.

I know im in the minority, but i really enjoy the console and highly recommend it if you're interested. There's a kind of exclusive, cult feeling to it. Very passionate community, and many unique games. For a "dead" console, venturing on to miiverse and seeing the art and the love, it feels more lively than any other console in that respect.

Sure it doesnt have party chat or any of that, but seeing people's elaborate drawings show up on the walls of splatoon as graffiti or PMing screenshots of high scores on old arcade games or fastest Metroid runs to friends, its all very unique.

Games like TW101 and Bayonetta 2 are also of a dying breed: deep games with steep learning curbs that you can spend 40 hours on and still not totally grasp. There still hasn't been games like this since the beginning of last gen.

Also if you have willing friends the party games are a riot. Wii Party U, Game and Wario and Nintendoland are all japanese goofiness at their best.

If you don't already have a wii u it will probably be going super cheap over holidays, it has some decent exclusives so worth picking up if you get a good deal.

It's being sold at an unreasonable price. For half the standard price you can get a PS3 and 360 that have a huge backlog and still plenty of current multiplats. For $50-$100 more you could get a PS4 and X1 which would be better investments in the long term

But you can't play any of Nintendo's unique content on any of those devices. For a PC gamer like me, the wii U is the only must own console.

For non-PC gamers, the dilemma is real. Yeah you can only get Nintendo games on Wii U, but you can get a broader amount of games on consoles that are cheaper or have better long term appeal. Nor everyone has the cash to fork over for a platform that's so differnt from the rest.

The Wii U is for those who like Nintendo exclusive games basically. It's the only console I have right now and I'm very happy with it, but understand why the system has been a flop.

I just can't get over the fact that the Gamecube, which had some great games, was once £40 (UK pounds) with a game whereas the WiiU will cost about 5 times that price.

A good price for the Premium WiiU to sell at would be about £140 with a game. To cost over £100 more than that, and on which you can play Bayonetta 2 but you can't play a Bioshock game, it's not necessarily attractive to a majority price-wise. At that price, it's for the niche gamer/ long term Nintendo fan or family gamer with very particular tastes.
