No, they aren't. No one sees women as object. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE. In all contexts, in all ways, no one sees women as an object. The term objectification is absolutely divorced from reality. Even the most controlling person in the world does not see women as objects. Absolutely no one sees a woman dressed in provocative or revealing clothing and thinks of that woman as an inanimate object, completely void of agency, for them to use for their own needs and then toss. People may not be empathetic to the person, but they certainly don't view the person the same way they view a car or a remote or a fridge.

The term objectification is completely asinine, over and misused, and is at this point a total buzzword people throw out when they want to whine about something and don't have a legitimate reason.

As for believing this outfit is "out of place" and "impractical" in what way? What practical outfit is there to have in a scorching hot desert? Army fatigues and an 80lb sac so you can hold in more body heat and become dehydrated faster? Why are people concerned with the practicality of someone's outfit in games with technology that doesn't even exist in the real world? It's like judging a game on it's realistic way of being unrealistic, or vice versa.

Precisely why b****ing about her design is stupid. The woman is fictional. She doesn't exist. So either her design is that of a man making a woman that doesn't exist, or if you're going to insist that this is problematic due to objectification (which is stupid) then it raises the question of whether or not we need to consider the agency of a fictional character, in which case said fictional character is wearing what she wants to wear.

What's happening is that SJWs will insist, despite mountains of evidence to the contrary, that games impact real life and Quiet's design means women everywhere will be viewed as sexual objects (patently absurd), but at the same time complain that a fictional character can't have agency unless designed with specific agency. So a fictional character is real when it supposedly impacts the self-esteem of women, but not real because of its lack of agency.

Raiden in MGS2 is just one example. Snake has been wearing skin tight suits that show off his ass since MGS1. Remember Raikov? A male character wearing nothing but a thong at one point in the game. Remember Vamp in MGS4? Liquid walking around bare chested. Etc.

Metal Gear IS wacky out of this world concepts. Have you not played the Metal Gear series?.. And there has always been an element of sexy. Think about Sniper Wolf, or The Beauties, or the magazines that you can throw to distract guards, the pictures inside the lockers, Olga in her wet tank top.

This is nothing new in Metal Gear, and it has always been done with a bit of a tongue in cheek flare. You also see guys. Naked Raiden doing cartwheels through part of a level. Johny's butt is shown in 4. There was a dude in a thong in one of them. Snake putting his hand in the statues penis as he goes camo.

It's just a game, and it's no where near those fan service games that sexualize characters that appear to be children. Not by a long shot. I think that is a good thing to complain about.

Yes, i have played and finished MGS 1,2,3 and 4, all of them 5-6 times individually. Still, it's not Neptunia nor Bayonetta, which both of them are based of extreme fantasy concepts, in which you can go overboard, both in character designs.

MGS is all about war and how it changes people and situations.

And Sniper Wolf only showed off her cleavage, nothing more than that.

And as i said before, naked Raiden was what, 2-3 minutes inside MG Arsenal? And Raikov with a thong: A scene that lasted a few seconds?

The objectification of Raiden in MGS2 and Raikov in MGS3 is present in those games and nothing will change that. 1 second or 100 hours won't change the fact that those male characters were objectified in those games.

Also, how do you know that there isn't a purpose to Quiet's outfit? That there isn't a reason for her to dress like that? You don't know and you're just talking out of your ass.

What you should know, if you played previous MGS games, is that Kojima created one of the (imo the most) strongest and impactful female character in videogames: The Boss. By creating a character like her Kojima, imo, showed more respect towards women than any other dev in this industry. I don't know how Quiet will turn out as a character bit if there is someone I trust to create a great female character is Kojima.

BUT to me, defending this look as an edgy artistic decision is amusing. A look like this is not new in gaming as we all know, so you are not on the side of innovation either.
I know, she supposed to have a 'deep backstory' that explains why she looks like this but we just know her look (and her squeezable figurine) at the moment without context in the next installment of the series that allowed it's players to take erotic photos of emotionally traumatized women (while they pose) after they defeated them.
Serious anti-war massages and characters with really bleak stories lose some of their edge when you can crawl around in a cardboard box and use a Playboy as a diversion etc.
Inconsistent tone is the meat of MGS.
I still love it tho.
Mgs1 and 3 is among my favorites.

what i wanna know is why they would have a character doing covert, military-like exercises in basically a bra. Our women soldiers are usually in kevlar and suited up in real life when engaging. i mean.. wearing the same stuff the dudes are wearing...

at the end of the day if thats the character you want, thats the character you want and its whatever vision of your creativity you wanna put out there.
