Dragon’s Dogma Online is a free-to-play title for PlayStation 4, PS3, and PC

The game will be a free-to-play action title with item micro-transactions for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC. It’s produced by Minae Matsukawa, directed by Kent Kinoshita, and executive produced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi.

Players will be able to organize parties of up to four players (Pawn AIs exist, as well), as well as chat, form parties, and spend free time in town lobbies with up to 100 people. There will also be a “Quick Matching” feature.

Dragon’s Dogma Online has a similar gameplay focus as its previous entries in terms of combat. Players will battle against big enemies in dramatic battles.

Same here. I was hoping for a Dragon's Dogma 2 but there likely won't be one for awhile now that this is announced.

Edit:

Thekhurg

Nothing is wrong with playing with friends. I would have loved a DD with optional co-op but not a persistent online world with a lobby filled with 100 random people. The game seems more MMO than co-op

thekhurg3391d ago

What's wrong with playing with friends? The article even says you can play solo with AI...

vishmarx3391d ago

ill bite. loved DD and ill take anything i get.
of topic but yet another capcom game not coming to xbox?

is this all because of MS's cross play policy?

BitbyDeath3390d ago

Capcom were having money troubles Sony are likely helping them with it in return for games. (Second party contract)

miyamoto3390d ago (Edited 3390d ago )

PS4 is like an exclusive games magnet!

Deep Down
Street Fighter V
Dragon's Dogma Online

Capcom and Sony is on a rolling thunder!

What's next?

PS4 Monhan ?

YoungKingDoran3390d ago (Edited 3390d ago )

Typical Capcom...
Give us something that whilst interesting - and probably a fine game in it's own right - no one asked for.
Then, after it does pretty well by most company's standards but not Capcom's - they punish fans by then neglecting the whole franchise entirely.

Of course I hope not because I'd love a Dragon's Dogma 2, and I'm interested in this even if it is free to play

DOMination-3390d ago (Edited 3390d ago )

its not coming to the west which is why no xbox version was announced

It won't be the end of the world.

Everytime I hear F2P or Mobile...

Palitera3391d ago

Why worry?

They just confirmed it is complete garbage.

MysticStrummer3391d ago (Edited 3391d ago )

You just confirmed you are prone to exaggeration.

OT - Just give me Dragon's Dogma 2.

Palitera3391d ago

^ "AAA" F2P = garbage. Period.

styferion3390d ago

ah yes, because LoL and Dota 2, two games with worldwide competition, millions unique user per day and up to 10 million dollar prize are complete garbage. /s

Palitera3390d ago

Those were made in a completely different age. It is like referring quake to argue that games are delivered incomplete today.

PLOT TWIST.

essentially,

Deep Down = Dragon's Dogma

Larry L3390d ago

So, you make a good point that's got me wondering. IS that what's going on here? Maybe I'm having a false memory here, but I seem to recall Deep Down originally being a code name. So, yeah.....Deep Down....D D.....Dragon's Dogma.......duh!!!.....

Either way, I'll finally get in to Dragon's Dogma now that it's online. As an original Monster Hunter fan, and a HUGE one at that (I shit you not, I cried a tear or two the night MH1's servers got shut down), I refused to settle for an offline version of Monster Hunter. It made no sense to me why your 4 party members couldn't be other players just like Monster Hunter. It's the same concept, same creator too I believe, and no reason last gen consoles couldn't do it considering PS2 and even PSP did.

Anyway, I've been without Monster Hunter online since 2007 and at least I'm FINALLY getting the next gen version, or at least successor to Monster Hunter I've been dying a little bit inside each day to play since Capcom cancelled the PS3 version of Monster Hunter in 2007 and put the series on platforms I don't game on. I hope Monster Hunter finds success in the west this time under it's new title of Dragon's Dogma Online. I'm sure I'll be supporting this title. Something I've done for VERY few Capcom releases since last gen started.

Capcom's direction seems to have renewed with this new hardware generation. As a fan of the "old" Capcom, it's nice to see. It shows how a company can turn it around. I haven't called them Capcon once in about a year or so, lol.

DanzoSAMA3391d ago

why not on X1!! i am big fan for DD last gen :(

thekhurg3391d ago

Probably because of MS' policies making it hard for F2P games to appear on the platform.

Either that or Capcom and Sony are just BFF's this generation.

Skate-AK3391d ago

I think it is the policies. Capcom loves money and wouldn't skip a platform if they didn't have to.

Mikefizzled3391d ago

But why are other F2P games on Xbox One. Hell I played the Japanese version of Onigiri, the F2P MMORPG. Theres lots of F2P titles on XBO now. Powerstar Golf, Killer Instinct, Warframe, Project Spark and Pinball FX2 are several that spring to mind. Something doesn't ring right about how its still a problem. Cross platform play is coming in the form of Fable Legends. So what are Capcom using as their reason?

BISHOP-BRASIL3391d ago

I don't think that's the issue here is F2P politics...

The original game was a big success in Japan on PS3, I don't know, however, how Capcom of America (or whatever their western branch is called) felt about it's sales, with them having unrealistic expectations all the time and what not, maybe it didn't sold withing their hopes despite being multiplat. In fact, this has only been confirmed for Japan so far, which hints at it.

So I think this is the major issue preventing it from being ported to XB1 for now. This gotta be a small (read: cash-in) Japan-centric project. So basically making it for XB1 (for now) is irrelevant, it won't make a difference in japan and cost yet more money. If they eventually decide to bring it to the west it might change (again, because of the usual western branch's surreal expectations, which will hardly be achieved with any kind of exclusivity).

MasterCornholio3391d ago (Edited 3391d ago )

Because of Xbox lives policies.

Anyways just play it on PC. You dont need a PlayStation to play this title.

Benjammin253391d ago

Oh so when it's exclusive on Sony's console, play it on PC, but when it's console exclusive on Xbox, that's the only place to play it.

MasterCornholio3391d ago

@Ben

It isn't exclusive to Sony's console though. Most gamers have a PC so if you can't play it on your console of choice you always have the PC version as an option.

"but when it's console exclusive on Xbox, that's the only place to play it."

Only if its a full exclusive. Console exclusive means that the game is available on only one console and PC.

WeAreLegion3391d ago

Wow. I don't think these people have ever seen you post, MasterCornholio.

Trying to remain impartial and helping others means disagrees.

bleedsoe9mm3391d ago (Edited 3391d ago )

not sure why people are disagreeing you just stated a fact , not even if you thought it was good or bad , i personally think its good i don't want this crap being made with consoles in mind . just build your game and let me pay for it and stop asking me for money every 5 minutes .

Bennibop3391d ago

DD sold well in Japan I believe and X1 has a pretty much no presence there.

Outthink_The_Room3391d ago (Edited 3391d ago )

Maybe if it gets localized. Right now this is only for Japan, with no intention of bringing it West.

If this doesn't get a Western release, Deep Down better get localized here.

It's so weird that these kinds of games don't get released in the West. There are some obvious Japanese games that wouldn't sell here, but games like Dragon Dogma and Deep Down would obviously move some units.

I realize in a F2P model, it's different from a pricing standpoint, but they could even sell it for $40, no DLC, no Microtransactions here in the West.

Even if they spent $6-7M to bring it to the West, (publishing, manufacturing, localization) that's the equivalence of needing to sell roughly 200k copies for the publisher.

Both Deep Down and Dragon's Dogma could push 200k units and make back some money. It's crazy that Capcom, who is doing both games, seems to be struggling with this concept.

Here's hoping this means we'll be getting Dragon's Dogma 2.

naruga1771d ago (Edited 1771d ago )

Dragons Dogma Online was BS money grab idea from capcom ....og Dragon s Dogma was a superb SP game with asychronous online feature (pawn system was genuine , innovative ,clever and didnt spoil at all the SP experience to the contrary it augmented it)) and that s how should have stayed ....i hope for a Dragons Dogma 2 SP only !! (with pawn online features offcourse

CrimsonWing691772d ago

Could we please get a damn sequel? I’m grateful for a minimalistic updated port that we got this gen, but ffs I miss when we would get sequels to games and not just a port of a game from last gen.

Lighter91771d ago

They were going to, but instead made a new DMC. Now that that game is out of the way, maybe they will. Here's hoping it'll be next-gen.

Darkborn1771d ago

When I first heard of that I was sad, but then I realized DD2 should be next Gen and hopefully it'll at least have a better way of getting around than just running through the same areas repeatedly. That's the only complain I have of the game.

Shiken1771d ago

I need a true sequel in my life.

NeedleEye1771d ago

Such a shame and such a waste. This game could have had significantly longer lifespan if they would have decided to localize it in the west. Surely folks at Capcom were aware of the huge demand for the western version.

Hopefully this game serves it's purpose to make a great proper sequel to the series.

starforge711771d ago

cant they patch it to SP or something?

Shiken1771d ago

The thing is, most MMOs are designed in a way that would be painfully boring in a world by yourself. It would likely not be worth the effort to bother as it would be dead on arrival.

A true SP sequel actually designed for solo play however...don't you think that would be much more worth while?

Thats really cool can't wait for a western release.

rdgneoz32780d ago

You'll probably be waiting till fall 2017 the earliest. Now if they just removed the region locking, we could try it out already.

ecchiless2780d ago

Well i play ddon so no sure why you cant.

ZaWarudo2781d ago

Well, hurry up! I needs me some more DD.

xDealtwithIt2780d ago

Solid foundation? That sounds like it could mean a long time before we get see that game out west.

shammgod2780d ago

i watch this on PS share all of the time...."maybe one day"

Tussin1872780d ago (Edited 2780d ago )

I know everyone hates remasters or remakes but I wish they would do one for DD that came out last gen. Or at least port the one they made for PC. I would be in heaven. Come on Capcom!! Make it happen!! If not, then please make a sequel. Even though this game may be good, its not what I want. Dragon's Dogma remake or DD2 please. Thanks
