Xbox One Game Streaming Targeting Full 1080p/60fps

Microsoft's just-announced Xbox One-to-PC game streaming service is targeting to run at full 1080p resolution and 60 frames-per-second. Partner director Mike Ybarra said today during a group interview attended by GameSpot that the service is running at 720p/30fps right now in the testing labs, but Microsoft expects this to improve to full HD by the time it launches publicly later this year.

Man it keeps getting better, if could do it both ways i am in heaven. Steam games running 1080p and 60fps on x box 1

Lenrulesdaworld3382d ago

this is how you announce tech for 2015 and launching this year. just blown away by ms this gen...

XBLSkull3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

PC + X1 finally come together to become the best combo of platforms to play on, fantastic news and I already know I will be using this. This may even change the way I run my entertainment setup, I'd better hit the drawing boards so I can make the most out of this.

Great news from Microsoft today, really makes my PS4 look like a last gen machine.

Army_of_Darkness3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

LOL! Honestly now, am I the only one expecting another E3 "MILO" situation here where they showed something to impress the public in order to purchase there console and Kinect but when it came down to the read deal, it Never happened!?
I'm gonna say it now. 900p @30fps streaming for the final product ;-) that's right folks. 900ppppp

DeadlyOreo3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

XBLSkull

Nope. I along with millions of other people are happy with our PS4s, being the best platform to play on. But you keep living in that land eh.

If you honestly believe any of this stuff will actually deliver you are seriously in for a shock. It's funny how you've forgotten about the revolutionary Kinect, or Illumiroom. Don't be suckered into it again.

Dread3382d ago

@deadlyoreo

I know this reminds me of sony move and the awesome sixaxis. Great products from Sony.

Go troll someplace else u downer.

Mega243382d ago

@Dread

Sixaxis is still used on all exclusive games from Playstation (except driveclub I think). PS Move is also still on the board being used for Project Morpheus.

So troll harder.

On Topic: The 1080p/60fps streaming will come down to the persons network IMO. Kind of like Steams Home streaming feature, if you have a weak network, it barely works, and you can encounter some annoying input lag. That over Ethernet, I imagine over wifi would be a bit worst considering signal range and what not.

ABizzel13382d ago

I think 1080p @ 30fps is a more reasonable goal, and this is exactly why they demoed Forza Horizon instead of Forza 5 to show a full 60fps. It's good of them to target they best they can offer, but we'll see what comes of the tech.

Like I been claiming for the longest MS needs to focus on getting Xbox back to it's PC roots if they want to have the Xbox brand as a strong gaming column for generations to come. MS has the tools needed to change the scape of PC gaming, and Xbox is their trojan horse to blend the world of console and PC gaming, that Steambox was suppose to be. But now it's cool, since MS is actually aiming for that (I want my check MS).

As far as the future of MS it looks very bright and innovative if things work like they hope and demoed. But this wouldn't be the first time they've shown their future plans for many things not to fall through in a reasonable time. As a matter of fact many of the things from their last big corporate showcase are just now making it out in this showing to retail (So while I was really impressed by everything, most of the big stuff is probably still years off for high levels of consumer adoption).

PC has just had a huge boon.

SniperControl3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

@skull

"Great news from Microsoft today, really makes my PS4 look like a last gen machine"

Lol, you crack me up, blinded by your devotion, PS4 has had streaming capabilities for well over a year now with Vita and recently PSTV. Even my mobile and tablet streams from the PS4.

And no, we all know you dont have a PS4.....

PoSTedUP3382d ago

i dont see what the big deal is tbh. remote play on ps4 is ok in your home, but its better when i get to take it anywhere with me on the vita, same with streaming through psNow and ps3 games on vita. its a portable entertainment powerhouse. 1080p 60 may happen, i hope it will push sony to hit that too with PS Now.

MS should drop a handheld. i said i would never buy anything MS but Halo2 portable would be epic, i couldnt not buy it. (yes, i use double negitives a lot)

listen I know everyone will say the xbone isnt 1080p blah blah blah..
But being able to cross game chat between pc/ xbox one is amazing!
To stream to PCs!
To play xbox one games on PC!!!!!!!!!! (if the game devs allow it).

I dont have the xbone but windows 10 is the reason why I would consider the xbox over the ps4

AKissFromDaddy3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

This is not cross-play or chat between PC and Xbox One, it's "cross-device play", which Microsoft calls it.

The videogame is only being streamed from Xbox One to a Windows 10 device.

The videogame is not available on PC to be played with Xbox One gamers. That would be called cross-play, which would be awesome.

You need an Xbox One to stream your Xbox One gameplay footage on Windows 10 devices, which is still connected to Xbox Live on your Xbox One.

Edit: To the silent disagrees, just show share a link that corrects me and I'll be corrected. I mean, I'm not writing anything that's non-factual.

No_Limit3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

@AKissFromDaddy,

"You need an Xbox One to stream your Xbox One gameplay footage on Windows 10 devices, which is still connected to Xbox Live on your Xbox One. "

If you are talking about recorded gameplay footage, I don't think the XB1 console is even needed, as those are store on the Azure server in the cloud if I'm not mistaken.
If you are referring to games streaming from XB1 to your PC and Surface Pro, phones etc..it is local network and it has nothing to do with Xbox Live as that is on remote servers on Azure. Xbox Live Gold is not required to get local streaming between Windows 10 devices.

Sonital3382d ago

@AKiss

Actually, they did announce both cross play and cross chat.

A Fable player on PC was playing in the same game as a player on Xbox One = cross play. Obviously if the game isn't available on both platforms then you're out of luck.

As for cross chat, you'll be able to join the same party as someone on an xbox one via the Xbox app on W10.

Your last point is accurate.

AKissFromDaddy3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

@No Limit
"The games streaming from XB1 to your PC and Surface Pro, phones etc..is local network and it has nothing to do with Xbox Live as that is on remote servers on Azure. Xbox Live Gold is not required to get local streaming between Windows 10 devices."

Edit: You just changed your comment, lol. Nonetheless, you'll need Xbox Live Gold to Stream Xbox Live multiplayer as I wrote below.

Just look at the trailer one more time and go to 01:12 and read the fine print.

It reads, "Multiplayer streaming from Xbox One requires home network connection and Xbox Live Gold membership (sold separately); Gold also required for multiplayer play on Xbox One."

Am I mistaken in believing that streaming Fable Legends multiplayer from Xbox One to PC, let alone playing Fable Legends Multiplayer on Xbox One streaming to PC doesn't require Xbox Live Gold as implied in the trailer?

@Sonital Yeah. You're absolutely correct. Some one else in another article showed me the link. Thanks.

Gamer19823382d ago

"I dont have the xbone but windows 10 is the reason why I would consider the xbox over the ps4" I'm the opposite, now I can chat to my friends who are on XBL wihtout buying an xbox with my free upgrade to XBL and fable coming to PC theres pretty much no reason for me to upgrade in the near future at least as I have a gaming PC, WiiU and PS4. I don't like shooter games so the only Xbox titles I was interested in in 2015 was Fable and Scalebound. Now with the ability to talk to my Xbox friends through my PC and one of the 2 titles that would have tempted me to add an xbox to my collection theres no reason for me to buy an xbox. HOWEVER..

MS have been clever here.. Do you realise with Fable being an Xbox PC game it means your probably going to need an XBL sub to play online?? Remember the uproar when GFWL launched and they tried that?? Now its part of the Xbox brand instead of GFWL and includes cross play chat I wonder if they will try to charge for it. This way they can still make that $40 a year from XBL but without even selling Xboxes. GENIUS MS.

The sad thing is if it works MS will slowly move over to PC as its cheaper to develop for and they wouldn't have to fight Sony. Investors will see it that way.. Imagine all that income from subs and games and no console costs?? Thats like free money..

No_Limit3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

@Kiss,

you said:

It reads, "Multiplayer streaming from Xbox One requires home network connection and Xbox Live Gold membership (sold separately); Gold also required for multiplayer play on Xbox One."

of course multiplayer requires xbox live gold, streaming or not, as everything runs through XB1. I think everybody knew that already. I am specifically talking about you do not need XB Gold to stream the game to a Windows 10 device in a home network. For instance, you can play a single player only game like Wolfenstein streaming from the XB1 to a Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10.

Sounds good. Between this and that Hologram tech, MS is sure stepping up the plate on gaming at full steam.

Magicite3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

Rimeskeem3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

This is really good and super cool but what happens if the game is 30fps or below 1080 anyways?

@Volkama

oh yah, for sure

Rimeskeem3382d ago

You see, there was a line i was treading on and making sure i didnt pass but you decided that line was non existent

fr0sty3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

The line between stating reality, and giving into those who can't bear to hear it.

It isn't even a big deal if they aren't all 1080p, those people bought the system anyway so they shouldn't care. Some games do run at that resolution and framerate, so it makes sense to support streaming it if the game does.

gameon19853382d ago

you mean like most PS4 games aren't 30fps?

Volkama3382d ago

What do you think happens? Your PC melts of course.

AKissFromDaddy3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

Doesn't the videogame have to achieve native 1080p60 on the Xbox One's hardware already, to even stream that?

Edit: To the silent disagrees, just show share a link that corrects me and I'll be corrected. I mean, I'm not writing anything that's non-factual.

ZombieKiller3382d ago

Yeah I agree. That was my first thought....what about the games?

AKissFromDaddy3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

The list of 1080p60 games on Xbox One is limited.
http://www.ign.com/wikis/xb...

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls
FIFA Soccer 14
FIFA Soccer 15
Forza Motorsport 5
Halo: Spartan Assault
Halo: The Master Chief Collection, excluding Halo 2
Minecraft
NBA 2K14
Outlast
Skylanders: Swap Force
Sniper Elite 3
WWE 2k15

Even the games that will streamable on Windows 10 devices is limited too.

Dudebro903382d ago

Even if its "limited" as you say, more games will also be coming.

You act there there is 1 or zero games that are 1080/60, there at many. Therefore the native 1080/60 streaming is good news.

Ninjatogo3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

Seeing as no one has answered your question yet, I will respond.

If the game is not 1080P/60, it will still stream.

In fact, pretty much all content displayed on the machine would be recognized as 1080P/60 even if the frame rate was 30. If the native res of the game was lower than 1080, the machine or game engine would already stretch it to fill the 1080P output image. If the frame rate was 30, the stream will display each frame twice much like your TV already does for most content today.

AKissFromDaddy3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

This is my last bubble, nonetheless, the stretching of the pixels to achieve 1080p makes complete sense, hands down.

However, the doubling of the frames from 30FPS to 60FPS doesn't, at least to me.

When I stream to achieve 60FPS, it's totally dependent on my bitrate or upload speed of the transfer from my computer to the server, let alone the game being in 60FPS to even capture.

I've seen games that are native 1080p60 but the stream is barely 720p30.

Nevertheless, I hopeful I'm mistaken, but I doubt it until I see it. That's just my perspective.

uth113382d ago

No it doesn't, it just wastes bandwidth to stream higher than the game is.

HeMan763382d ago

No dodnt do it dont do it!!!This is a damm huge action from MS.I love both my pc and XO..Now they are brothers in arms!!!

neocores3382d ago

LoL Not hating but. Xbox cant even get games to run 1080p on the system lol.

smoothop3382d ago

Like how you missed the 60fps because PS4 can't do that adequately, pretty sure Forza 5 is still one of the only exclusive games to truly hit 1080p 60fps.

cfir3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

Resogun says hello. Being a PS4 launch title

smoothop3382d ago (Edited 3382d ago )

I should have said bar indie games, well if that's all you got to fall back on good luck to you.

3382d ago
CernaML3382d ago

^Same goes for Forza 5.

ZombieKiller3382d ago

Actually I've got a fair amount of PS4 games that hit 1080 60fps quite adequately.

Including a few multiplatform games that don't hit that target on the other consoles. Not trying to troll, just saying that I HAVE that proof right in front of me.

Look, although I love 1080/60...but it's not like you can't play games without it. Certain games utilize it nicely, but it's not the end of the world. I think the games look great this gen regardless of the console! To each their own, but I am still a bit curious as to how this is going to work. Wouldn't a game running at 30FPS look choppy on a 60fps stream? Or does it downscale to 30....going back to square one anyway.
