GTAV PC: New Release Date, First Screens and System Specs

As we head into 2015, we would like to share the first screens and system specs of Grand Theft Auto V for PC as well as a new release date of March 24, 2015.

Our apologies for the slight shift in the date but the game requires a few extra weeks of testing and polish to make it as good as can be. Moving a release date is never a decision we take lightly and is a choice we make only when we know it is in the best interests of the game and our fans. Thanks everyone for your understanding and we assure you these few extra weeks will be worth it when the game does arrive in March.

Honestly i dont care when they release it now ... GTA has gotten boring currently and i bet they know it too, however they took an extra year to work on heist isnt that a good thing? What would really be dissapointing is if all this hype over hiests was for nothing ! i honestly got angry when i didnt receive heists from day one on both my ps3 and ps4 i felt it was a waste to buy it on PS4 i only bought it for the heists and not the graphics and then found out i got First person...
I guess thats how you sell a game now adays lie and get paid, tell the truth and risk not getting sales or have huge sales.
Thats life in the gaming industry! On the bright side nothing left for it to release and i am looking forward to look at what the modding community will do with this game!

Heists lost their hype before comming out. Everyone was tired of waiting and lots of players already stopped playing gta online.

I tought ps4 and xbox one architecture was closer to pcs so it shouldnt be this hard to port a game, oh well...

Ha. That's a lot of generalizations in just 3 sentences. Heist hype was only generated by the players, Rockstar simply mentioned it, never any details until just a few weeks ago.

The architecture is close... sure, but, the PC version has 4K support a replay editor and perhaps some other enhancements (custom music, mod support, Steam integration?) we aren't aware of.

Given the unique features, it is also hard to define it as a simple port.

That remains to be seen. It is a last gen game at its core of course. But mods might change all that anyway.

In any case, Infamous Second Son is a really great looking game and is definitely the best looking game I've played on my PS4, but games like AC Unity maxed out on my PC definitely still look better.

Infamous looks ok, but in honesty it's a very boring, very "static" feeling world compared to GTAV.

you don't have even half the stuff going on that you see happening in GTAV.

Infamous may "look" nicer, but that's about all it has and even then, some of the effects like the water and rain don't look as good as in GTA.

Look at the really fine details in Infamous and you can see where they have cut corners in order to achieve the overall eye candy.

generally speaking I wouldn't even say the two games are comparable in my opinion.

Let the shitstorm commence. R* is working hard on the PC port making sure something like Unity does not happen again. If the game was released in its current state i'm sure there would be tons of bugs and glitches that people will be complaining about. A working game is worth the wait.

My only regret is selling the 360. 2 months with no GTA Online? Ugh, I must resort to playing other games I suppose.

I concur my friend. I feel the same exact way when Witcher 3 was delayed again. Sure, I was upset to not get to play the game when I had hoped to but if these past 2 years have taught us anything, it is that games rushed to market in order to make the release date only benefits the publishers, investors and the developers (Although to be fair many devs do not make these decisions, they certainly take the blunt of negative press however.) in the short term, with potential negative connotations for the bigger picture.

However, it is us, the consumer/gamer, who really get the short end of the stick when a game is launched prematurely.

No matter how many patches that are released, some games never recover from a bad launch. As they say, first impressions leave their mark, in the world of video games, first impressions are detrimental to longevity and success.

Yes please! I've been waiting an eternity for this, but that typical of Rockstar releases. I think it's pretty clear that previous reports of specs were wishful thinking. I think I'm okay with another delay because and only because it will have that Rockstar quality that can't be matched. We will be playing this for years to come. I'm over it, I will wait it out. My graphics card isn't getting any younger though...

Well, to be fair, depending on what GPU and overall PC specs you have currently, it is time to upgrade for alot of gamers who primarily/exclusively play on a gaming PC. I have a GTX 770 2gb and I am in need of an upgrade, My GPU cannot keep up in the VRAM requirements of 3-4 gb which the majority of demanding AAA games are asking for recently. If I have the funds I plan on additionally buying a SSD and maybe a new CPU, thinking of an i7 just in case. Presently I own a i5 4670k but there are rumors that Witcher might use more than 4 cores and I want to be prepared. Witcher 3 is the primary reason for my upgrade, love to play that in all it's glory! The same can be said for GTA V, especially when the mods start rolling out.

I am a bit angry even as a console gamer.. Those spec requirements seem to be surprisingly low so the game should be greatly optimized. However, these delays are getting out of hand and there is nothing more annoying than get excited for something just to find out it's going to get delayed.

Rockstar should be honest and say that these things take shit loads of time and announce the release date when they're absolutely sure about it.

Based on the specs it seems they have done an immense job optimizing the game. Could even be looking at 60fps at 1440p at this rate.

Well that's hardly a relevant comparison. Obviously older games have a certain aesthetic and charm that comes with their age. 2D games are pretty much timeless. No one's going to give Super Mario Bros. any flak for it's graphics because it's still as fun now as it was back in the day.

4K resolution in games offers a level of clarity that most people don't even know how to explain. It just makes everything look better.

All of a sudden, grass textures aren't jagged and flickering. Shadows look less jagged. Edges of models become flawless. Shading gets better. Objects in the distance become clearer. Aliasing in general pretty much disappears; and what you're left with is a pristine digital image of the 3D world teams of artist spent years crafting.

Oh and by the way, most games that support variable resolution will support 4K. Which is just about every PC game since 1998.

I have nothing against PC gaming, I understand 4k is a game changer just like the switch from 2d to 3d and SD to HD was, and with tax season coming im really thinking of a gaming computer. I really dont want to spend about $1000 and have games run slow with mid-max settings or run fast with trash graphics. My current pc can run skyrim on low settings, but then the game looks a lot worse than it does on PS3, but when I run it on high settings it looks amazing but runs like shi*.

I just cant stand when a prick comes on here acting like console games are trash because they are not 4k. idc if these games are not 4k, they are still amazing games.

System specs seem unusually low, though. I'm willing to bet that the recommended system (an HD 7870 with 2 gigs of VRAM) cannot max the game out, it may play it at high-medium settings but there's no way that it can max it out at 1080p. Why is it recommended then? Odd, really.

The PS4 GPU is a notch below the 7850. More comparable to the 7970m. Xbox One is a notch below the 7790.

My guess is that they put a wide range of graphics options so that the game can run on low and mid end systems as well, which is a good thing. Seems like the game can run on many laptops as well, and if you have a monster system you can crank the graphics up and get better results. Nice of them to provide options for a wide spectrum of pc gamers.

The department within rockstar developing this game are the same ones who developed max payne 3 and from what i've heard that game was optimized incredibly, so this isn't a shocker imo.

I think Rockstar games is optimizing the PC version to 100% to avoid it's mistake back in 2008 when GTA IV was released on PC. If you guys remember than the PC version of GTA IV was almost unplayable and full of bugs and glitches, I think the developers are talking their time to make sure that the game will run smooth once it is released in that market.

Still no reason to upgrade my 6 year old x58 motherboard, last year i upgraded the ram from 3gb to 8gb, cpu from 4 core i7 920 to 6 core 12 thread xeon x5670 @3.8ghz, gpu from 5870 to gtx 970 and added an ssd. It runs games butter smooth @ 1080p

cpu's have been advancing pretty slowly the past 4-5 years. I wonder if Skylake will be worth upgrading to, if games keep well optimized i won't even need to upgrade my mobo and cpu this year at all.

Could be true the way things have been going lately, there's been no big changes for a long time, nearly all games are just not as demanding on the processor as they used to be either.

Probably be good all this year at least, wouldn't surprise me one bit. Also forgot that when DX12 comes out it will significantly lower cpu overhead in games as well, meaning even less need for a newer one.
