Seven Reasons Why Destiny 2 Could & Should Run at 60FPS on Scorpio & PS4 Pro

There are several reasons why Destiny 2 could and should run at 60FPS on Scorpio and PlayStation 4 Pro, despite Bungie's excuse. Here's a list of them.

Devs aren't making the most of what the PS4 Pro can do, I wish they'd push for 60FPS more often.

Aurenar2533d ago

The issue is that Sony wants to sell 4K TVs, they don't care for 60FPS gameplay...

freshslicepizza2533d ago

This is true and their lack of support in many games that don't offer supersampling is sadly likely the reason. The other erason why its not going to be 60fps is because games with online competion has to run at parity with the PS4, seems like less value to the PS4 Pro but that doesn't end there, PSVR also has to have the same content.

SpaceRanger2533d ago

@ Moldybread

Not sure how you're still on this site when you're spreading nonsense as fact.

You complain about parity, yet fail to realize that all parity issues from now till the end of this gen will be based on the Xbox One's abilities. The PS4 Pro and PS4 will still be running games at 1080p to 4k even after Scorpio releases. The Xbox one on the other hand....720p? 900p? Somewhere in between?

notachance2533d ago

@moldy

weird, if we're talking about parity why didn't you talk about XB1 and Scorpio which have bigger technical gaps?
oh I forgot, you're a blind fanboy.

blitz06232533d ago

Yet you see Dark Souls 3 getting unlocked on the Pro. Parity? Sure.

Nioh can go 1080/60 or 4k/30. There is no reason for Bungie not to attempt a PS4 pro version where they prioritize performance

thekhurg2533d ago

Destiny was perfectly fine at 30fps. Destiny 2 will be as well.

butchertroll2533d ago

@Blitz

Qoute :

Nioh can go 1080/60 or 4k/30.

There is a difference. Those options are for SP campaign.

AnubisG2533d ago

If Sony really wanted to sell 4K TV's, than they would have included a 4K blu ray player in every PS4 Pro.

Sure, they want to sell 4K TVs but the PS4 Pro isn't the Trojan horse you think it is.

joab7772533d ago

If they did, they'd drop their prices and compete with Samsung. The issue is that they don't want Deatiny to be a Scorpio seller. That and they don't want to split the base in mp.

Lennoxb632533d ago

Not just Sony, but consoles/devs in general don't target 60 fps and haven't for about 3 or 4 gens now.

PizzaSteve2532d ago

I said that even before the Pro came out. It's to sell 4K TV's just like with 3D games and movies to sell 3D TV's. These companies have to give us, the consumers a reason to upgrade to 4k. Right now I still don't see a need too cause I'm fine with my 1080p TV.

TKCMuzzer2532d ago

Doesn't stop the devs sticking in a 60 FPS option though.

holdmyown832532d ago

Why do people keep saying this shit!! Sony 4k tv's are not even reasonabley priced for regular consumers let alone holding back a game because of it

fr0sty2532d ago

@moldy

what was that about Pro not improving PSVR?

seanpitt232533d ago

Well if its 60fps on the ps4 pro and only 30fps on the ps4 then that would cause a major backlash with it being focused so heavily on a MP experience.

So 30 on both platforms and a higher resolution on pro seems the only fairest way and I expect the same on the Scorpio version aswell native 4K/30 even if it can do 60fps.

Imp0ssibl32533d ago

There are already games running way better on the Pro, just read the article that names a few.

Also, this comes with hardware refreshes for PC and mobile devices...Not sure why consoles should be exempt.

Bolts2533d ago

What a bunch of BS. Battlefield 1 is 60 FPS on the Pro and 30 FPS on the PS4, I don't see anyone making excuses about parity there. Same goes with Nioh.

It's either they can do it or they can't. If they care do much about parity then the Pro should go unsupported to be "fair".

butchertroll2533d ago (Edited 2533d ago )

@Bolts

BF1 MP is also 60 fps on regular PS4. Although, not stable. But on PRO is not a stable either

Stop spreading nonsense.

seanpitt232533d ago

@ Bolt

BF1 aims for 60fps on all platforms yes the pro version runs it better by 5 to 10fps better but that's OK now if one aimed for 30 and then the pro for 60 then they would have a massive advantage playing online.

joab7772533d ago (Edited 2533d ago )

I agree, but why not just say that? This is why I think that asking that all consoles be locked at 30 doesn't give Scorpio an advantage. Imagine paying as much as they do and being the third best option to play. It's too big of a game.

cellfluid2533d ago

Not if bungie make two lobbies.. One for 30fps and one for 60fps.. Problem solved

Ju2532d ago

The Surge runs 1080p@30 on Standard and 1080@60 or 1620p@30 on Pro. There is no parity clause.

B1uBurneR2532d ago (Edited 2532d ago )

No Doubt in my mind this is Sony money at hand or it could be for Tournaments so every console owner is playing at the same fps. How does that make sense idk.

Two things will happen 6 to 8 months after The "Behemoth" launch. MS will push for devs to utilize the DX12 feature cross both of their systems during development 2nd. MS will stealthy release more games with dynamic resolution to hit 60fps and you can't really say the game is not 1080p/900p. This way there is parity between systems for MP.

Use this as tool to maket Scorpio as a must have system for 4K Tv. There you Sony problem solved you get to sell me tv's

SilverDemon2532d ago

@ju

The surge is a single player game NOT multiplayer

Ju2532d ago

Please. All MP games run better with less lag on the Pro. It gives every Pro player an advantage, no, doesn't it? It's never 100% the same. BF1 runs higher res and has better details which also is an advantage. So, what's the point. So much conspiracy here.

bluefox7552533d ago

They are, they're just prioritizing graphics over performance. It's always a balancing act, no matter what the hardware is, and much of it comes to developer discretion. They could turn the graphics down and run the game at 60fps, just like CoD does, but many devs choose not to. Like it or not, pretty graphics and higher resolutions are more marketable than frame rates.

CrimsonPheonix2532d ago

Except they're not, devs just think they are.

343_Guilty_Spark2533d ago (Edited 2533d ago )

Probably because the most they can push is resolution.

Or it could be the patches are more work than their worth.

Cybermario2533d ago

dont think Bungie will benefit the PC platform over what scorpio and PS4 PRO can do honestly, but i can understand why Sony and MS dont want to go beyond 30fps, that will segregate PS4 and Xbox One owners that cant do the jump to Scorpio or a PRO.

joab7772533d ago

Yeah, but Ive heard that PC is much better than the Pro. Like very noticeable, and it was in medium settings.

Cybermario2532d ago

oh for sure, i can see PC having advantages, but we are not talking graphics here and that will not be a factor when it comes to fun, features is what i am talking about.

xsta1ker2533d ago

well thats to bad for them if they can't make the jump for whatever reasons cost no 4k tv... i don't believe the hardware upgrade i or anyone else pays for should be restricted at all for any reason. if thats the case why bother
with new systems not everyone has them still playing on ps3 & 360.

parity is old school thinking everyone that chooses to pay for better tech should get all the benefits of that tech
or guess what don't try selling a more expensive product with handcuffs to your consumers.

EmperorDalek2532d ago

So you think PS4/X1 players should be at a disadvantage against Scorpio/Pro players? Developers can make whatever upgrades they feel like. If 4K is what they or Sony wanted, then that's fine. PS4 Pro has mostly brought resolution upgrades so far anyway.

Cybermario2532d ago

i can understand your point of view, but is not how things work. Developers and publishers want to sell games, if you segregate your p[layerbase "hey bum, buy a 4k tv and a Scorpio/PRO or you cant play the game" is not really what these companies want, again, they want to get the game to a majority of players.

Also dont forget we are not talking usa only, certain countries have absurd prices for new tech, but even in the usa the economy dont let some people upgrade as quick as they want, they have the right to enjoy the game too.

Sam Fisher2533d ago

Wtf are you talking about? How many years has it been since xb1 or ps4 came out? I think everyone at this point can upgrade just not everyone buys into mid gen stuff like myself, i have iphone 7, i only get main number phones no s, its a waste of cash. In my view ps4 pro is a dumb purchase ill wait for ps5 in the next years. Now skorpio id understand bc ms messed up with xb1

Cybermario2532d ago

yeah i will wait for a PS5, not buying a PRO, especially as a lot of developers are not even giving patches or supprt for the games.

But no, i disagree with you, not everyone can upgrade, economy is not equal for everyone.

LavaLampGoo2533d ago

Once again I'm in awe of the marketing for a Bungie game. I've never liked the Halo series or the first Destiny but I keep buying them and so help me God this looks sooo tempting.

Destiny 2 Will Be The Only Shooter Running at 30FPS in 2017

Rainbow Six: Siege – 60FPS
Star Wars Battlefront (and probably the sequel, too) – 60FPS
Halo 5: Guardians – 60FPS
Battlefield 1 – 60FPS
Gears of War 4 – 60FPS
DOOM – 60FPS
Overwatch – 60FPS
Titanfall 2 – 60FPS

"It should be noted that these games managed to get 60FPS on the original PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, which have weaker CPUs than the PS4 Pro and Scorpio."

Exactly.

Lets not forget what bungie said back in 2014

Bungie Explains Why Destiny Is Not 60fps On The PS4 And Xbox One

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

“It’s a lot of different things,” explains Jason Sussman who is the senior environment artist at Bungie. “I could get really technical, but I’d bore you to death. A lot has to do with performance. We’re cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles. A lot goes into that, from geometry to textures to post effects to particles to how many players you get on the screen. We’re always balancing that out to make sure everyone gets the same experience,”

Xbox Scorpio definitely should run 60 fps no questions asked. Not even something that should be argued.

But if Scorpio is not 60 fps bungie will be made a fool on a grand scale when there are tons of shooters running 4K 60 fps on scorpio.

They will throw out there "well you see we are making the game on 4 different systems" like they did last time as damage control for parity reasons.

butchertroll2533d ago

Quote :

tons of shooters running 4K 60 fps on scorpio.

.......

Where? You have Scorpio?

KingKionic 2533d ago

I did say "when there are" so stop the nonsense it's getting old.

GearSkiN2533d ago

overwatch doesn't run 60fps on console bruh

Ju2532d ago (Edited 2532d ago )

Well, if you must bring this up, Paladins runs 4K@60fps on the Pro with some occasionally drops to about 1800p. So, right, why doesn't Destiny 2 run 4k@60, huh? /s (on a serious note, why doesn't Overwatch run at higher res. It's not looking that much different than Paladins).

Ju2532d ago (Edited 2532d ago )

Rainbow siege is locked to 30fps or unlocked, runs 85fps on Pro (Boost). Unlocked but the frame pacing is terrible. This is the worst of both worlds, really. Not sure why they did not add a 60 locked option for Pro. Also, it does not support the Pro in any way. It is simply the overclocked version of the PS4 game @ 1080p. I rather prefer a rock solid 30fps @ 4k (like no hickup HZD) mode than that crappy unlocked 85fps...(well, unfortunately, that 30fps in RBS is full of stutter as well). Destiny 1 runs absolutely smooth @ 30fps, though.

Why would the Scorpio run this @ 60fps if the CPU is only 100MHz faster and the games problems are actually CPU bound?

KingKionic 2532d ago

Rainbow Six Siege in the multiplayer versus runs 60 fps most of the time

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Terroist hunt is locked to 30 fps.

Its obvious just with battlefield 1 and battlefront alone what is possible.

Im not gonna go into that trick about CPU mhz etc back and forth.

Sometimes its best to just look with your eyes.

Ju2532d ago

Still, RB6 has no Pro mode what so ever. You can disable the VSync all together which makes the 30 fps modes unlocked. And those run >85fps on the Pro in Boost mode. That game just is the worst example ever. It has screen tearing everywhere. It real isn't a shiny example what a good looking game is. Also, in your link it explicitly states, that it disabled 60fps for every game which includes any form of AI - which is always running on the CPU. Exactly what Bungie is saying. Thanks for the confirmation. Couldn't have said it better.

Aenea2532d ago (Edited 2532d ago )

Dude, think! Not every game is the same, that one game can be 60fps in a certain resolution doesn't mean another game can use the same fps and resolution!

Most of those games run in higher than 1080p resolution on the PS4 Pro if they are multiplats. You love to bring up Battlefield 1, well it's 1800p at 60fps on the Pro (don't think it's even checkerboard rendered but am not sure), with your same faulty logic it would mean Destiny 2 could run at the same resolution and framerate on the Pro and the game CAN NOT! Why is that you think? Why can you use this example to show Scorpio can do it but not for the Pro?

Also, you've used that quote before from a "senior environment artist", you do realise that is not someone who writes code or works on game engines for a living, right?

KaiPow2533d ago

I'd be satisfied with just seeing the 60FPS increase in competitive multiplayer. It's smaller arenas with a limited number of players and can be tuned for those limitations. Uncharted 4 did a similar thing.

Alexious2533d ago

Gears of War 4, too. I suppose that's too much work for Bungie...

Jakens2532d ago

4v4 multiplayer could mean great things for fps.
