Halo 5 sold 5 million copies in 3 months

According to a post by Frank O'Connor on NeoGAF, Halo 5 sold five million copies in its first three months on the market.

It's balling if most were sold at full price. What happened to ROtTR happened to Halo 5. It dropped in price real quick, as much as 50% off within the first month of release. 5 million is a great number, but previous Halos have done it quicker and at full price.

When Halo first came out, the market was flooded with FPS ( Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Heretic, Hexen, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, Team Fortress, Witchaven, Sin, Half-Life, GoldenEye 007, Redneck Rampage, Unreal, Unreal Tournament and so many more) . It sounds like you are making an excuse for the lack of H5's sales and blaming it all on the oversaturation of FPS's. Did it ever occur to you the reason H5 was the worst in the series is not because of the oversaturation, but the fact the game just was nothing like the others in the Halo series.

Its in the top selling list quite a lot and best rated on the xbox digital store. A huge majority of halo 5 sales are digital its probably alot higher than the 5mil it was merely 3 months after launch.

Yh ok Halo 5's campaign is a little crappy... But it has by far the best multiplayer and modes out of all the FPS' games which makes it the undisputed king still. Overwatch doesn't even have a campaign lol

The numbers are fake... a more accurate figure is under 4 million and even then it is a generous estimate. As others note below, if the 5 m figure was indeed true, Microsoft would have been shouting about it on every website but they haven't.

I think when games reach certain milestone numbers, it doesn't hurt to gloat and talk up the games a bit. I don't think we need constant numbers being released...particularly for every game, or even big releases. Unfortunately, people see numbers on forums, and automatically attribute one selling less than another game, particularly on another system, as it somehow failed, while when I see a game that sold 5 million in 3 months, I see a successful game by any real measurement when it comes to making a return on investment...which insures future title releases.

More than I expected (thought it would be sitting around 4-5million, not over 5), great sales, but a far cry from what it used to be. Halo 3 for example shipped 4.2 million copies on its first day!

I also forgot to mention it (Halo 3) released to a much smaller install base too and it went up against some heavy hitters, CoD 4 being one of them, it's just Halo was much bigger at that point.

I would have thought around 4 million just because a exclusive game selling to 1/4 of an install base is pretty rare after the launch window. Even selling to 20% of the install base(if 4 million) is pretty rare.

Good for the game though. 5+ million means it's a successful game, and a pretty safe investment which typically means the games will continue, which is great for the fans.

Still haven't played it but it's installed and holy crap..it's sitting at a whoppin 82GB on my external hd.
Mcc isn't far behind at around 63GB

Everyone here says the campaign sucks but I'm hoping to getting around to play it soon

The overall story was pretty good, it's just the pacing and how they delivered the story was kind of a letdown. It's like if you took someone who had the attention span of a squirrel and had them watch Batman v Superman. They'd hate it because it's more like Lord Of The Rings where it's trying to tell a really cool and interesting story, but the lack of occasional to frequent action set pieces drags it down for them.

It's also disappointing if you followed all the promotional stuff that was trying to make it out be that John-117 (Master Chief) went rogue, and that he had to be brought in for charges of treason and other things. Turns out hardly any of that is in the game at all, so that was a letdown, but if you are patient and don't have to have Michael Bay level explosions every couple mins, you might think it's a 7/10 Campaign wise.

Oh no wait, Batman vs Superman wasn't bad but was predictable, and as a story, you wouldn't want your narrative to be predictable, that's a death line that shouldn't be crossed a lot in a plot, and BvS did that (the pace is also one of the things that should be varied but it failed to be in BvS).

As for Halo 5, it's story was grasped from a writer who doesn't have the talent to link things together, until now many people don't really know who the forerunners are, why are they called that (In the video game universe that is), the thing about Halo 5 is that the writer is definitely less talented than the writers who made the past games, even the writers who made Halo 4 had better talent and gave charisma to the characters more than the lone writer of Halo 5.

please stop worrying about halo sales. it doesn't matter. people are still playing it and 343 are still releasing free updates and multiplayer maps. the only thing that bugs me about halo 5 is that 343 was trying to force us into liking spartan locke. he's just not the master chief.

I think the Squads will be removed in Halo 6 and Locke and Osiris won't have significant roles. I wouldn't be shocked at all if the lead writer changes also since Brian Reed sucks. Everything Halo related Reed has wrote has been poorly received in terms of story.

Well if its sold 5 million copy's that's a massive success with the xbox one selling 10 million consoles. Massive well done to 343 its a great game and to sell this many with COD being the main selling FPS game is great. Looks like the big exclusives on all 3 consoles are selling well in UC4, Halo 5 and Mario Kart 8. 3 of the best games so far this gen.

The name sells. And you sometimes get an idea of how well games sell when the commercials disappear. Halo 5's commercial disappeared in, what, 2 weeks? Probably means it sold well and they didn't need the same advertising budget so they scaled back on air time.

Microsoft has been quiet about it, but they also said they're not discussing sales going forward. Is it really that hard to believe a Halo game sold 5 million in 3 months?
