Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance is coming to the Wii U Virtual Console on October 16th.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are among some of the best Koji Igarashi titles that fans can play while they wait for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to release on June 18.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Steam reviews are very positive 9/10. I'm going to buy it for Switch though. I want to also play on the go, and at work :D
Damn didnt know Bloodstained just released. Will get it on switch
Yeah I'm REALLY loving what little I've played of it so far and this is coming from someone who hasn't been too impressed with what has been shown of the game, guess metroidvania plays better than they look.
The Castlevania series has increasingly been known for its Metroidvania style. So what are the best Castlevania games of that type?
Castlevania Lacarde Chronicles 2 just released on PC in May 2017 and is an incredible MetroidVania CV game. 10/10!!!
Cool thoughtful list, ya hippie. It's clear you're really into games when your picks aren't all the most popular ones but are the ones that best fit the parameters of the list.
Castlevania's Game Boy Advance trilogy represents one of the greatest eras in the franchise's history.
Nice article!
Harmony of Dissonance's soundtrack problems were super weird and not (past) Konami-like back when I first played it, but now it all makes sense. The GBA was built to be a portable SNES, and the SNES had this gorgeous Sony sound chip that put it above the Genesis for nearly every multiplatform game out there. They broke up with Sony in the Playstation snafu during GBA R&D and therefore no longer had their awesome sound chip expertise behind the system. Nintendo, without a partner in sight, boldly tried to make their own, but it was basically a NES-grade chip with extra tracks for sampling.
This is why other GBA game soundtracks (like Advance Wars or Aria of Sorrow) might sound better but also fuzzy - it's all samples, all the time, nothing's native to the chip, because the chip sucks. Harmony of Dissonance, for whatever reason (I think it was a throwback to the NES, given the other throwbacks in the game), used the chip.
Despite the awful sound, the composition behind the tracks is all pretty good and super different from what you'd expect in a Castlevania game.
One of my favorite game series.. I completed almost every game.. Very much worth playing..
Circle of The Moon is easily one of my favourite handheld games of all time. Few games on the little screen feel as epic or as awe-inspiring.
I haven't bothered with the GBA VC on the Wii U, but if they port those to the NX, I'll probably check them out. I would really like to see Shining Soul (sp*) end up on the GBA VC.
Why are portable games coming to the Wii U, but not the 3DS??? Makes no sense.....
This is just rlly annoying a lot of GBA games coming to WiiU but not 3DS. And don't use the excuse "WiiU needs sales" because theres no way virtual console games have that much pull compared to MK8 or Smash.
It would be nice if buying it on wii u meant you could play it on 3ds too, who knows, maybe one day.
Definitely picking this up, I've been in a Castlevania mood and the GBA games are some of the best available. Nintendo really needs to get a unified account system going on though, this should exist on 3DS too.
