The first batch of DS4 had issues with the analog stick and wear & tear.
The red Magma DS4 in the US are from the newer version with sturdier analog.
I had to change the analogs on the first one that I had, I changed the Color too it only cost 8$ to get it customized to my liking which was way less expensive that those 150$ Xbox Elite Controllers.

Well, if you are serious about gaming, you should trade in that old One.
I would do it. It depends whether or not it's worth the investment.
At the end of the day, you're still going to play the same games and you aren't forced to upgrade.

If I were Sony, I would go to both Gamescon and Paris Games Show.
The more publicity they get, the more likely they will sell more PS4 and games.
There's about 25 more exclusives games that they could have presented at E3, more 3rd party games.
All that could be shown on these shows.
If they can't get third party support.
If they can't make an online multi-player competitive as PlayStation or Xbox.
If they can't make a console on par with current Gen spec wise.
Then they may start to consider going third party.
