Seems to me that a deposit (be it $5 or $10), which cannot be refunded but can be applied to another game, is more of weighted commitment -- than an Amazon preorder which carries no responsibility with it.
In fact, if some people wished to be mischievous, they could place a lot of orders with Amazon -- and then cancel a day or two before the release date, as Amazon does not charge credit cards until the time of shipment.
Only ardent fans or fanatics would d...
It might be wise to remember that pre-orders on Amazon (unsecured by a deposit) may be misleading -- until actual sales occur.
That cautionary note applies to all games on all consoles at sites where a deposit is not required and the order is easily cancelled without penalty.
You call buying a next-gen game for $10 "buying the same game twice" ?
It's closer to buying two games for the price of one,
Commandments for a new generation:
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I, Sony, thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that buy XBoxes.
pre-orders that do not require a deposit (i.e. Amazon orders vs. EB Games, etc) may not mean much.

No one poll is going to represent the diverse interests of video game players.
I notice that Nintendo didn't even rate a mention in this poll, and yet, surely some its games have given players hundreds of hours of entertainment.
I feel that, as time goes by, i am more difficult to please than even five years ago.
The Last of Us is very well done -- especially the integration of animation and voice acting -- but even so i found myself thinking: aren't y...
This article is a persuasive appraisal of Clash in the Clouds. I have a Season Pass -- but found this horde-mode DLC to be irrelevant to my Bioshock interests.
I'll still tackle some of its contests, although, as the author noted, not being able to pick up where you left off seems more like a design flaw than a challenge worth taking seriously.
Good to read a review that provides more light than heat.
an inane article that adds nothing to what is known

(a) When I purchase XBox Live Gold through Amazon there has NEVER been any tax or shipping charges. (Nowadays, Amazon offers digital download so the transaction is instantaneous) And in 8 years i have never paid more than $39.95 for a year's membership.
(b) I made NO comment stating (or even implying) that Xbox is better. I own both consoles and am well aware of the merits of each system. It's never a case of either/or --- but both/and. Appar...
60$ (or $60) a month?
I've never paid more than $39.95 a YEAR for XBL Gold.
I'm well aware of what PS+ offers - but, so many games vs. so little time, and with the next-gen looming.... tends to reduce the significance (to me) of how many games are available for free.
Same here. I prefer "in-depth" game play with 3-4 games (on either console) and can barely keep up (currently playing The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite DLC, Battleground 3 multiplayer (all maps) and Halo 4 multiplayer).
Quality, not quantity, is what matters to me.
Once a game has been exhausted, (and all Trophies or Achievements have been won) i add another game of similar potential -- GTAV is my next candidate.
Jumping to conclusions is the only exercise that some N4g readers get.
Bring it on, Ken! And more to follow.
How many Sony shares do you own? Are you anticipating a dividend?
Even so, you might do better to invest in Nintendo...
As for the 360, (assuming the figures are close to being accurate, which may quite an assumption) the #1 sales of NCAA Football 14 must mean something...
pre-orders that require a deposit are meaningful -- but Amazon, for instance, does not require a deposit
worth remembering, before reading too much into these figures.
"Battlefield 4′s multiple editions can’t seem to be kept secret by any retailer."
Why would any company or retailer -- interested in making sales -- WANT to keep any game edition a "secret"?
Is there any point to such articles?
Six people disagree that the future is in the future?
where do they believe it is?
If this puzzle game means so much to you, isn't the fact that you'll be able to play it on Xbox 360, PS3 & 4 - etc. enough for you?
Personally, i expect to be so busy when the new consoles launch that I won't have time to worry about every game in existence. Battlefield 4, alone, will likely occupy a huge chunk of my available time, for quite a while. Ditto Watch Dogs.
consoles sold does not necessarily mean greater profits. There are members of Sony's Board of Directors who have said the PS3 will never repay its development costs and who are quite critical of Sony's "obsession" with entertainment, especially since most of its profits are derived from other sources --- such as insurance.
The original PS3 has been altered to make it more economical to produce, but even so, sales and economics are not important: what matter...
