Half of the players who signed up for a free trial of 14-day Xbox Game Pass didn't renew.
We don't know how many people bought the game as a result of trying it out on Game Pass.
Saying that, even if half of the player base has stopped playing:
1) that's still over 1 million players
2) no one can tell, as server sizes are relatively small anyway

Just because you've played early access on some games that their marketing team has labelled a "beta" doesn't mean it's an actual beta.
3/4 of the game was missing (according to the data mining). The Beta was simply to see the server traffic. Because behind every online game there is a bunch of tin working it's arse off to keep you online.
It has Outposts, and Skellie Islands that you can plunder. However in the beta, the only thing worth plundering is chests and ship stock (bananas, wooden planks, and cannonballs). I'm 100% this will get better come full release.

I don't see SoT flopping, it's been so great. And as someone who bought collected everything you can possibly collect in the Beta, just playing the game was so fun!

When we moved from SATA/SAS HDD to SSD the price difference was insane, like 35x the cost of disk.
Now, in the time we are moving from SSD to NVMe (not necessarily replacing SSD yet though) the price difference is large, but no where near the different between HDD and SSD, only about 10x the cost.
SSD is becoming the norm, and will be just as cheap as HDD soon enough - and will eventually become cheaper, since HDD will be spec...
