The World Ends With You is one of my favourite JRPGs in recent times, so I'm really hoping a 3DS sequel is on the cards...
It did indeed sell pretty okay, but this is evidence against how they wanted it to be in stock (they were aiming for a launch day "feeding frenzy", at least in Europe): http://3dstribe.com/feature...
So it was probably disappointing for Nintendo that they didn't get a feeding frenzy, with 3DSes on the shelves in Europe. Not sure about America, though, but that'...
Probably because it didn't sell anywhere near the initial allocation. Though Nintendo did hint they didn't want any shortages, but when there's a few thousand unsold units there has to be something a bit wrong. Mind you, the sales figures were for a couple of days (until early April), so it's probably sold pretty well so far in April!
Still, it's disappointing it didn't outsell the iPad 2. I was actually hoping it would have.
Awesome. It's brilliant, isn't it! let's hope it sells well enough.
Me neither, to be fair, even if it's a shame even iPad 2 (which is bound to have some crossover in terms of potential buyers of both 3DS and itself from the expanded audience) outsold it.
Though I'm sure Nintendo expected more - I remember they said they wanted a "feeding frenzy" in Europe, which didn't happen (they sold about half their initial shipment), for example, and the system sold out in Japan at launch (with about 600,000 units for the launch we...
Agreed - Conker should be in place of Donkey Kong 64, really.
Exactly. While there has been disappointment, as 3DS Tribe mentioned (and both of us) it looks and plays the part, so there's no need to worry.
No problem and apologies for the confusion! I agree with you there! Though funnily enough 3DS does have plenty of games - at least in Japan.
Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for games after E3, though!
Please read the story/article - note that it never mentioned how there are no games. It's that Europe isn't getting any games, how said games are on the way but Europe isn't receiving any in April/May (only 3 games are out then) compared with other regions.
Agreed. There are some cracking launch games about: Street Fighter, Ghost Recon and Ridge Racer are among the strongest, but no one could have predicted games like Monkey Ball to turn out as badly as they did.
I'd say it's worth getting one at launch: as the system is only going to get better as more games get released and firmware features finally get added, and it's unlikely the UK price will fall lower than it already is..
Yeah, me too, can't wait for this game. I just hope it gets a European release, the second game (the DS one) never made it to Europe and I never imported it. A shame :(
I'd also say most of us don't know exactly which games out the launch lineup are going to be worth the £30-40 and which won't. For example - I want Splinter Cell 3D, but if it turns out to be a dodgy port I won't be getting it at launch so why pre-order it?
Same thing with Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, though that is looking like a great turned based strategy game.
No idea - they are probably "development" screenshots from Nintendo. I say this because the preview Metroid Other M screens were in 720p.
I wonder how it stacks up to the Wii Sports Resort visuals - I think 3DS has better effects though - it's amazing how great the visuals look at 2500 x 1500, sure there are a few blurry textures about (obviously because 3DS shows the visuals at 400 x 240 or 800 x 240 in 3D mode) but it just shows how great the visuals are when they still look pretty respectable at a high resolution.
The same goes for Zelda 3DS - the recent screenshots for the game were at 800 x 480 which i...
Probably be best if that didn't happen - after all the Mushroom Kingdom is diverse enough to make the Mario & Luigi RPGs stand out.
Disagree with what though? If you read the article it only mentions 3 cases where developers have made games more accessible to players - Dead or Alive Dimensions, Ridge Racer 3D and Super Street Fighter IV, with Super Monkey Ball 3D being the one that looks the worst changed (the actual level designs seem very dumbed down from the older games in the series).
The second half mentions there are plenty of challenging games on 3DS - it's not referring to all games, just some...
Don't forget about Steel Diver!
Though admittedly most the new IPs from Nintendo have been outside of traditional games and aimed at the expanded audience.
There has been stuff like Rhythm Tengoku (Rhythm Heaven overseas) and Jam With the Band on DS, though, but they were fairly niche games most ignored.
Yeah, it's probably going to be a situation where you'll want to try the thing out before you buy it - though hogging a store demo unit for 30 minutes might not be great (Nintendo are at an advantage there).
No wonder Nintendo's UK invite-only 3DS events were restricted to 30 minutes only...
You'll be pleased to know that option exists, too!
According to the story (please read through it!) there is the option to upscale - the point of the story is there is also the option for 1:1 pixel support, something many thought wouldn't happen:
"Lucky folk at Nintendo’s UK 3DS events that managed to secretly (that is, without Nintendo reps noticing) get DS download play up and running to see how DS games played on the device before anyone else brought h...
Wouldn't be surprised if they called it that, after the Kingdom Hearts 3D thing (Dream Drop Distance, was it?)
