Yesterday, a trailer showcasing actress/comedienne Aisha Tyler's cameo appearance in Watch Dogs was released. For some, Tyler's appearance was nothing to blink twice over, while for others, footage showcasing her character could not come fast enough. Now, I'm sure most people are wishing it never came at all.
The [unfinished] video showcased Aisha Tyler walking down a street in the more business-industrial districts of Chicago, speaking on the phone to someone about a pill that allegedly stores your digital life. Aiden Pearce follows her and hacks into her smartphone to listen in on the conversation; information is also received about Tyler, indicating that she is a gamer and bourbon enthusiast and her occupation(s) list as comedian, actress, talk show host and author, with an income of over $4 billion dollars.
Aiden continues to follow Aisha until the camera pans away to show a garbage truck waiting in a side alley. As Aisha gets closer to the alley, the truck starts to move and as she is about to cross the street, she jumps back and screams just before the garbage truck slams into her. The video has now ended.
Now, after the first time watching it, I was suffering a mixture of disgust, worry and confusion, and I had a lot of questions. Was this an official trailer and not a joke? Why are the visuals so repugnant? Why is Aisha killed off so easily and in such a ridiculous manner? These questions remain unanswered.
For anyone who's seen the video, you'd understand what I'm talking about when I say that the visuals are repugnant. I'd like to use a more colourful vocabulary here, but I kiss my mother with this mouth and I'd like to maintain a little composure as well, but I digress. The video, in short, was horrendous. I don't even want to call it a 'trailer' for two reasons: it was not a trailer. It was evidence that Satan exists. The other reason being, I hope to God that Ubisoft didn't release it as an official trailer. The only thing showcased in this 'trailer' was clunky movements, PlayStation 2 visuals and the swift kill-off of a hyped-up cameo.
There have been suggestions that the video was captured with Wii U or even PC footage on the lowest quality settings, but it's still a significant downgrade from what we've seen before. I also fail to understand why Ubisoft would showcase this footage in such horrid condition. Others have suggested that because Aisha Tyler is a comedian, perhaps this was a collaboration between herself and Ubisoft to 'troll' gamers.
More disturbingly, some have speculated that Ubisoft has deliberately condensed the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Watch Dogs to put the PS4 and Xbox One versions on a pedestal, as their way of getting you to upgrade your console and purchase a next-gen copy of the game.
Subsequently, the creative director behind Watch Dogs, Jonathan Morin, took to Twitter today to release a statement combating the comments made surrounding the video. In short, Morin stated that the actual game will look much better than the Aisha Tyler trailer. Gee, that's comforting. When questioned about the trailer itself, he stated that this trailer was the result of someone who messed things up. That someone did not understand the technology or what stuff to check on. When a fan asked why Ubisoft to give the green light to this trailer and release it, Morin had this to say: “You know sometimes 100s of people working together causes communications issues lets just say that.”
In short, this video was never meant to be released in its current form. I think that "someone" needs to be fired immediately.
Questions regarding whether or not it was actual gameplay footage or a poorly, pre-rendered video have not been answered and fans remained dissatisfied with not only how Ubisoft is addressing the situation, but also with what they're seeing visually in Watch Dogs.
I have the collector's edition of Watch Dogs preordered; I'm going to pick it up at launch and leave it in the corner of the room and play Grand Theft Auto V until someone releases legitimate gameplay footage from the Xbox 360/PS3 version. If the visuals are not better than what was showcased in the trailer, I'll be returning the game for a full refund.

We were expecting problems with mod support, but there are a lot of other issues.
Not accidental, they want modders to stop modding their older games to force them to mod Shitfield.
Over 14 GBs and doesn't change much at all? What? Taking up that much drive space for a pathetic 'remastering' is shameful.
Par for Bethesda.
LOL people are actually expecting massive improvements or something? From Bethesda?? the same people who released Skyrim multiple times and the all look like shit? THAT Bethesda? are people for real?
The ps5 version doesn't change a ton but from my small playtime it's enough to make me want to replay it just to have it running at 60.
A side note to this my PS4 version no longer boots after it's "update" so I guess that's what it feels like to own a Bethesda game on PC
As of right now, there are no monopolies in the games industry, and for the sake of the medium as a whole, they never should either.
And yet the biggest tech companies in America are essentially that. They buy up all the small comps only to kill them off and steal what they have, and if they can't buy em they bleed them to death.
They buy IPs not talent. That's why these buyouts never work and the IPs die. Right now it's too expensive to develop games - but I expect that to shift maybe as AI tools can make it easier. The best games have been indie games for awhile as big developers fuck their ips to death with "games as a service" -
A voice actor from The Coalition's third-person shooter series, Gears of War, has hinted at a new game announcement coming in June.
Hopefully Microsoft will go back to the original story line and get away from that woke nonsense from the last Gears game Gears of Woke! But were talking about Microsoft so all the betting money is on more of the same woke nonsense.
I was about to write about this but you beat me too it.. LoL
Yes that is how the game is going to look on current gen.. and yes, it's going to be a shocker for people who thought all of the footage we saw before was somehow going to end up on your current gen console..
I said this before, if your on PS3 or 360 don't expect your copy to look anything like what they were showing at E3..
People didn't get it.. Now they do. If you know anything about graphics you would know that what you were seeing is not possible on current gen, nothing close to that.. Sadly I don't think gamers really understood that.
It's like when they show you a render scene and then the game-play is nothing like that.. -That's probably how all the PS3 and 360 people feel right now..
It also looks like Ubisoft which was trying to capitalize off of the buzz from Aisha Tyler being on Jimmy Fallon's show talking about the game - http://bit.ly/16kn67S - they made one little mistake though, somebody messed up and they let the current gen version of that trailer go out instead of the Nex Gen /PC version - so now everyone see's exactly how it's going to look on 360 and PS3...
And if you just look at the YouTube comments they are not happy..
(they are also pretty funny too though, like this one)
I love that they’re making a Nintendo 64 version of the game. Thanks Ubisoft!

So much for their original target render.
"In short, this video was never meant to be released in its current form. I think that "someone" needs to be fired immediately."
That's the kind of drama bomb over-reaction that gives gamers a bad name. If this is how the game actually is then why should that cost the video maker his job ?
People should lose their jobs over malicous actions or consistent poor work output, not releasing video's that upset some gamer kid because the graphics didnt meet his expectation.
They really won't let the PS2 die, I swear. Glad to see they are still making games for it, might give me a reason to fire it up again and start picking up all the rpgs I've missed.
And people are surprised by this, why?
Everybody with common sense knew they were showing off the PC/Xbox One/PS4 version like every other company. We had the same rants going around with BF3 when people realized the great look version was on PC only.
What nobody seems willing to bring up is the fact that the game is still going to be just as great as on next gen. So the pixels aren't as fancy, the gameplay is still the same.
GTA V doesn't look fantastic, the things you can do in the game and the fun that can be had are what's going to sell the game, same as Watch Dogs.
