GenGAME writes: Depending on who you ask, the Wii was either the saving grace of Nintendo that revolutionized the gaming industry as we know it or the sorriest excuse for a console ever and the beginning of the end for Nintendo. Gaming journalists have positioned the Wii in the number one spot on lists of both the best and worst consoles of all time. Analysts have pointed to it as both the greatest success of Nintendo Global President Satoru Iwata and the reason he should be removed from power.
So is the Wii the greatest console in a rich Nintendo history, or is it the company’s most glaring shortcoming? By taking a close look at the impact the Wii has had on Nintendo’s success in both the short term and the long term, we can see that the answer is…well, both.
Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"
Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”
Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever
Nice one ☝️
This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.
No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.
Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.
Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?
Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.
Danish from eXputer: "Nintendo has historically gone against player-made content and emulation of its games. This has done much to harm the company's image."
They need to stop announcing these mods and fan remakes until they're finished. Finish it, upload it, and then if Nintendo dmca's it tough shit. Once it's online, people can share it around, even if the original download gets taken down.
This is all coming from the mouth of short-sighted fandom and grifting madness.
No.... it wont. There is a clear defined reason why they don't. This is nothing new. Make your own shi7 from your own original ideas especially if you are trying to capitalize of it it. Duh.
Yeah, hire people that have zero respect or understanding for an established process. Wow. Yep. Totally makes sense.
I love the Wii. I even love the "casual" aspect of the Wii. Sports and Sports resort were fun. Mario Kart was fun. NSMB Wii was fun. Even the stupid balance board was fun in its own way.
The problem is that Nintendo didn't put in the effort during the middle and end of the Wii's lifespan. People say "the casuals abandoned them". Well, I don't think that's true. I think Nintendo abandoned the casuals in favor of making games THEY wanted to make. Why is there a sequel to Mario Galaxy (sold 10 million) but not a sequel to New Super Mario Bros (sold nearly 30 million)? Why was there a second Zelda game (combined, Zelda sold 9.5 million on Wii) but not a second Mario Kart (34 million)? Why did they stop investigating the potential of Wii Motion Plus right when it came out with Sports Resort? No game matched Sports Resort in terms of motion controls.
I know people will say "Nintendo usually makes only one Mario Kart" and "Twilight Princess was Gamecube so...". I get it. All I'm saying is that it is obvious why the so-called "casuals" got tired of Nintendo. Nintendo stopped making games for them. It's what happened with the N64 and Gamecube. The so-called casuals LOVED the NES. But Nintendo stopped making games for them, so they left.
NES was awesome because it was the place where a genre was born. Nintendo took the original Mario Bros. and turned it into Super Mario Bros., and then a whole slew of similar games were released. The SNES era continued this with stuff like Donkey Kong Country.
We saw a similar trend with New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and then games like Donkey Kong Country Returns, the Wii Kirby games, Rayman Origins, etc...
Nintendo doesn't seem interested in doing this with the "Wii" series, outside of a few obligatory sequels. It's like the "revolution" is over, even though it never really came to fruition.
Not the best
The Wii was so bad nobody got hyped for its successor the WiiU.
The Wii is the best casual gaming console. And The worst Hardcore console.
