The Geek Girl Contradiction

An opinion column via eGamer in which the author expresses his confusion at the contradicting nature of a lonely gamer stereotype and the assumption that 'geek girls' only exist as attention-seekers.

Quote: "Why is the female gamer so unrealistically attractive when all she really is, is a female who play games, the same way a male plays games. I’ve not known many males to go, “Yeah, I play games,” and then be covered by women in a fraction of a second. (If you can picture that, then congratulations on having an awesome imagination.) Yes it is!
I used to be a jock who enjoyed copious amounts of beer and the attention of women.
I worked really hard at it, stopped exercising, moved back in with my parents, and started watching firefly.
Now I'm a proud geek and happier for it!

You didn't say "Hey I'm a geek" and all of a sudden change. You changed without your own consent. You like what you like. That isn't a choice. That is what I mean. And if you think geek is a style like with the big framed glasses scene then just no.
