Has Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes been rebranded as MGS5?

i think Ground Zeroes is the first mission of the game, the helicopter crashes and thats when "the phantom pain" happens, 2nd mission.Combine both of these together and you get the prologue for MGS5. So Ground Zeroes, The Phantom Pain, and then MGS5 is all one game.

This is what I was thinking, Ground Zeroes is the prologue, Phantom Pain is Chapter 1, Mobby Dick is an in-game organization at the first chapter, and the whole thing is one game that you know what it is.

I have never played a Metal Gear solid game. I just picked up a Ps3 and finished the Uncharted series. Thinking about going with metal gear series or God of war series where should I start?

Tough call, but definitely play both series. I'd suggest MGS if you're in a sneaking mood.

Do not play MGS4 first. You'll be absolutely lost and nothing that happens will mean anything to you, I also didn't much like it as a game but I'm in the tiny minority there. If you can handle old old old games the first Metal gear solid still stands up well.

Overall though I'd have to say for the perfect balance between easing yourself into the story and playing a well rounded Metal gear game I'd start with Metal gear solid 3. It's the first part of the story chronologically (I think) and even though its a sort of prequel story that can be played at any point in the marathon (as long as its played before Peace walker, which is its direct sequel) it's got the smoothest controls and the best mix of accessibility and originality. The only problem there is that it's probably the best one so it'll be downhill from there. Not far downhill but still no other game in the series stacks up against it for me.

If you can handle old PS1 games you should try playing them all in order of release. If not I'd say start with MGS3, then either MGS2 or Peacewalker, then MGS4. Just be sure to at least watch some of the cutscenes from MGS1 on YouTube before playing 2.

Warning, be prepared to take a lot of stuff with a pinch of salt. It's an amazing series but there's more then a little craziness and melodrama in there that can put off the more weak willed.

Hanso got it completely wrong! Metal Gear has one of the most complex stories in gaming history, probably media history. Starting at MGS1 would be retarded as by MGS3 you'd be completely confused!

The chronological time line is;

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (HD collection)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (PSP only)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (HD collection)

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes (coming next year)
Metal Gear Solid V (coming in the near future)

Metal Gear (HD collection)
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (HD collection)
Metal Gear Solid (The Twin Snakes) (PSN or Gamecube)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (HD collection)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3 only)

Edit... Play in this order, MGS3 first and MGS4 last to get the most out of the story!

I'd avoid Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, not a proper Metal Gear.

You've hit the nail on the head. Ground Zeros seems to be the warm-up acted before MGS V. Ground Zeros is a sequel to Peace Walker and the prequel before MGS V. MGS V will probably be the prequel of Metal Gear, the original game in the franchise.

Its a possiblity. Dont see why people are disagreeing. I think it would be great for MGS to go fully multiplatform. Everyone needs to experience the greatest stealth series to date.

I wish MGS would stop at MGS4 because that was a perfect time to end. Now with Rising and this one it seems like Konami forced it out of Kojima.

I disagree. Kojima built a beautiful story and mythology and these other games are all filling in gaps to that universe. Rising wasn't forced it was cancelled and only brought back because Platinum offered to finish it.

I have said this before but I think most people really don't know whats its like to be a creator, and to tell a story with characters and how hard it can be to let them go. He has put so much work into this he doesn't want to stop.

He does want to be recognized for his other accomplishments as well, but he doesn't want to stop making Metal Gear. In fact Konami put him in a position within the company so that he can branch out and help other franchises like he did with Castlevania and presumably an upcoming Silent Hill and Contra game.

People are turned off by having to buy multiple consoles to enjoy the core story of a series. By releasing Metal Gear for the PSP people expected it to be a spinoff (both in terms of story and gameplay) because of the assumption that Konami would understand that not every PS3 owner is interested in the PSP. Yes, assumption--I know what it means. Kojima has decided to ignore that trend, and now has to deal with the fact that a lot of people skipped PW and will accept GZ as the next "true" Metal Gear after 4. It's not right, but what can you do?

It could be possible but i'm not sure, Kojima said that GZ would be a prologue for MGS5 so it could be possible that two games are being developed at the same time.
